Leveling Speed

XiacbXiacb Member Posts: 51
Ive seen a lot of people talking about how it is slower than WoW but worth it because it is more fun. How is the leveling speed compared to the first EQ. Also what is max level and how long would it take to get there for someone who has played games like this before but not this particular one?

Yes levelling is slower than WoW which is great as you get to explore more content and have more fun.  Also between EQ and EQ2, EQ2 has quicker levelling than original EQ.

Cant really answer how long it takes to reach 70, its different for each person and there play style.  For me it took 2 years as a casual player to reach lvl 70.  I dont grind on mobs, i explore, quest and take my time.  For others who grind away they can probably reach the cap in a few months.

Overall leveling speed is slower, but the first 25 levels in EQ2 go by very fast, probabaly faster then WoW.

It takes alot longer to reach level 70 in EQ2 than it does in WoW and its much more fun. I've been playing almost since the day it opened but have yet to reach level 70. My highest character atm is 39. Its all up to you how fast you want to play it. I've seen power gamers reach it in 6 months if they're bored and do nothing else all day long.

Personally, I prefer to take it slow and experience everything the game has to offer. And it offers one heck of alot. I imagine I still haven't taken part in all of it. I keep discovering new things, even if I've played through a zone a hundred times.

I think levelling goes pretty fast if you stay in groups or work on quests.  I find levelling too fast for my taste and have combat xp disabled on all my toons.  I still often hear people complain about how long it takes to level though.  I would expect a few hours in a group to get a person 1-2 levels easy.  At least that is what I see happen in my groups in the 20s,30s.  In the 40s,50s it seems everyone in the group gains 1 level from a few hours.  My highest is 51 so can't say much beyond this but it does take longer the higher you go.  I've played quite a bit in groups at various level ranges since all 6 character slots have combat xp locked.  Best way to level is to load up on quests for a few zones then wait for a group or try to start a group for one of them.  I play evenings and weekends and can usually get in a group without trouble (some days they need tanks, some days healers, some days dps, weird how one of those tend to be rare on some days), just work on my solo quests with my level chat open to listen when people are trying to form a group.  I would save heritage quests for the weekends when it seems more people are on and it becomes a typical heritage quest fest time.

With vitality I’ve had grind sessions that do breeding grounds or Cyclops that would give a level in about 3 hours in the high 50’s low 60’s. Obviously this gets boring pretty fast and you don’t get any AA from it so IMO it’s not really worth it.  Still it shows that you can level very quickly on EQ2 if you want and if you have some friends helping you, but there are a lot more enjoyable ways to spend your time.

If you were to get some friends to help you could easily grind from 50 to 70 in less then 100 hours /played.  It would still take a while in real time because after playing for a night you would need to let the character sit for a few days to let your vitality build up again. If you just grind through without vitality it would take nearly twice as long.

Something else to remember is that there is more then one type of xp in EQ2. You have an adventure level, a trade skill level and an achievement level.  Even now, months after EoF was released not many people have all three maxed out. Even assuming crafting isn’t for you getting your full 100 achievement points takes a while, especially for older characters who completed a lot of the content before AA was introduced. No one in my guild has all 100 AA points yet, and some of them play *a lot*.

Hi, I've been playing casually  for just about 3weeks and my Fury is lvl 20. I suppose I could of lvl'd faster, but for me at least I'm still getting used to the game and I have also been crafting and killing(farming) certain mobs that drop armour bits. I've also been getting side tracked hunting down collector items (the "?"). I'm also going to take a guess that if you join a guild you have a chance to lvl faster and experience the game more aswell have a whole lot more of other things to do.

At first the leveling speed is amazingly fast. I have reached 10 in maybe 2-3 hours of play. Also if you are a casual gamer you will gain the vitality bonus (double exp). I don't really have the time to play but I love MMO's and had to play something. If you go out and adventure the game should be pretty good. Also there seams to be a lot of people around the n00b areas.

    Anyways enjoy~

Personally I think you are taking the right approach though, any game gets boring if you just do one thing, so by all means get sidetracked as often as possible. You are however getting to the point in the game where there is a lot of cool stuff for groups to do and having a guild that is active at your level makes it a lot easier to find group for the things you want to accomplish. For pure leveling PUG’s are ok though.
