Ok now I am putting myself on the sword here and I know it, as many of you guys have heard there is a load of hype surrounding the new chapter.
Now I know some of you will never like the new combat system and that is fine, but understand that change was down to LA not SOE, they in fact wanted the Star Wars MMO to stand out from the rest, It did but for the wrong reasons it was badly done ( I am being nice) and pissed off a lot of people and rightly so.
I actually left before the NGE and came back after , and I liked the combat system although loads of content was missing.
They have been putting this all back in and the game is getting really good and is heading in the right direction, so my challange is this get the trial and try out test centre it wont cost you a penny and you can see for yourself and make an informed decision rather then the misinformed one I see here so much.
And before you flame me , tell me what have you got to loose ?

I've had 2 21-day free trials to try it out again, and as far as I'm concerned a system based on levels/loot is going in the wrong direction.
Also although there is no decay and never will be again they are adding consumables with every chapter insuring repeat business for crafters, as well as that BM hits in 5 days and honestly if you take a look at the SWG forums for the first time in nearly 2 years they are filled with returning vets and very happy and hopeful people things are looking good, I am not saying resub or take my word for it pay SOE money, all I am saying is after tuesday give it a go, if you dont like it fair enough but it doesnt hurt to try.
I loved the old game and was gutted when it was gone but i think this is going to be a great Star wars MMO, and it is worth having another crack at it
Levels are still the largest determining factor in the game.
looted weapons are still surperior crafted in most cases.
The added back food additives but neglected to fix the issues with filling and stacking of food and drink which as been problem for a year and a half.
They have only added camps as a comsumable with chapter 5.
There are still no comsumables for armor or weapons that are crafted.
Combat still has issues with NPC warping and shooting through walls
NPC's still stack on each other so you can think your shooting one mob and end up facing 2-5 of them.
there is still an xp penalty for grouping.
Looted weapons are not superior to crafted , no way in the world anymore not with the mods that can be applied to them.
Sorry wrong here Powerups as well plus the what 20-30 items in Chapter 6
Weapon Power ups Armour and clothing are all consumables all in the area you said there was none.
NPCs can bug yes as in any game.
And yes the XP thing in groups is retarted.
But like I have said if you dont like it you dont like it just saying give it a try, if you didnt know the value of the Powerups I would bet you havent been on that much so give it a go you might like it, it couldnt hurt
I said crafted not reverse engineered. those are not the same and the mods on weapons don't compensate for the reduced DPS you get when using a cl80 weapon compaired to a cl88 weapon..which is why weaponsmiths are still screaming for cl88 schematics
Also, are there consumables for architect and droid engineer? Is there a RE system for architect and/or droid engineer?
camps are consumables for architecs.
DE's do re for weapon sea's and powerups. but the powerups are reverse engineered not crafted. I know alot of crafters myself included who feel reverse engineering is not crafting ,
Sorry but you can I have a bandit sword which is level 88 DPS is 1000 only 50 less then the top looted one add together the mods I have on it
1H Melee Damage
1H Melee Criticle
1H Melee Action Cost
This sword kicks the crap out of anything looted or quest reward and the same can be done for rifles carbines and pistols, I have a weapon smith and even my crafted Lava Cannon is far better then anything looted.
Weapon smith have these items in game you just have to know where to look
I said most not all. the one you listen is one of the schematics from the Chu-Gon Dar Cube . most of the subcomponents of that weapon is made by putting loot in the Chu-Gon Dar Cube not crafted.
Also, are there consumables for architect and droid engineer? Is there a RE system for architect and/or droid engineer?
Ok I take lower levels out hunting for xp all the time i aggro the target they beat on it I take the damage while they gain the XP.Also architect have the SW RE system and DE re as a weapon smith, Munitions can not re weapons only armour the DE does all weapon Re'ing
The Consumables for architect is the camps and DE the weapon SEA'a and Powerups, also both and the other 2 have loads more comming in chapter 6
1. Having to admit I play swg to any other gamer.
2. Supporting what was done to the game in any fashion either by boosting trials or any sort of measurable stat further harms my goal of PRE-CU FTW.
3. Helping anyone at SOE staying employeed.
4. Supporting an Evil corporation because I cannot get my video game fix elsewhere.
5. Playing that aboration of a combat system.
6. Starring at any character other then my own in the character progression.
7. Jedi everywhere
8. Boring content
9. level based
10. Class based.
Also this is crafted and brings combat and crafters together in trade so again thats a good thing
To the op. The game is not getting better as you put it. Is it slightly better than it was 5 months ago, yes, but very slightly. Any class that is melee, which jedi is the only true melee, is so borked right now it is pathetic. When ch.6 hit TC, creatures and mobs needed very little tweaking, but the devs once again listened to the crybabies, and now is gonna push the ch. to live with pretty much everthing still soloable, ( range classes with kiting is still king of SWG). Things such as krayts, DWB and high end stuff should always require a group, period.
On to the new creature handler or Beast master (dumbass name if you ask me). It's ok, but when it hits the live servers, the way the economy is so borked right now, incubators, and the enzyme extractors, will cost in the millions, if not 100 of millions. The eggs will be just as costly. Doesn't seem like a great addition to the game, especially when in the old days all i needed to do was have a few points in CH and go out and tame a baby creature.
The game speed is still way to fast and creatutres and NPC's are still moving like benny hill on crack. The devs still won't get rid of particle effects and put back in animations, even though in ch. 7 there will be a way to tune down the effects. the simple fact though is, nobody likes the effects, we want the old animations put back in, period.
As far as the surge of people, yes, there is a little bit of a surge, i would agree, but that is because of ch. 6 on TC. There is always people checking out whats happening in SWG, especially old vets who have the station pass, and SOE giving out free trials and such. The population rises then quickly falls off again, it happens everytime.
The game just can't hold ones interest like it did in the old days. Until they bring back the skill based system, with all the proffessions, and ditch the linear class based one, the game will always be in the state it is in right now, which is a mediocre MMO at best. I, like many others were used to playing a game that was innovative and just plain out addictive. Now, it's like every other MMO in my opinion, very vanilla, with no substance.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
Did the NGE piss off a lot of people ? damn right it did has the game improved since then yes it has well lets face it couldnt get a whole lot worse, Jedi are the tank class in CH 6 no two ways about it put one of them at the front on a krayt and you will do ok but no way in hell is a krayt soloable in ch 6, I was one of the loudest voices against the cry baby BS saying the changes were too hard but they havent toned it down too much but NPC's were no inculded in this chapter that will be ch 7.
No as far as the old animations go a fair few have been put back in in this chapter and are looking pretty good, when you are kneeling and you dodge an incomming attack you roll out the way as before.
but like I have said this game wont be to everyones taste no MMO will, and I know why people are not happy because they loved what it used to be like and that is now gone.
I am not here to convince people to pay to play this game again, I posted in this forum knowing that i was going to be talking to people that as a whole do not like this game and that is what I wanted, I wanted to hear your points of view and try to understand the other side of the coin.
I do like this game and I have stuck with it and the community above all else kept me playing through the worst times but i do honestly think that this ch will do alot to make this game better.

Interesting, but still not nearly enough.
Levels still seperate the community too much. Would you take that level 5 to the DWB?
Also, I have no interest in being a SW, and camps are just not intersting to craft. Can you even experiment on them?
After over a year later, the nge is still not anywhere close to the game it used to be in playability, stability, or fun.
Every try it again post uses phrazes like "It's not the same game", or "it's much better than a year ago" or "They're adding stuff back". It doesn't matter. The core of the game is just plain evil.
The shitty combat never improved even with their hyped "target lock" feature.
The professions are still gone and locked-in even with their much ballyhooed expertise system.
The content is still lacking and broken.
The servers are empty.
It's nowhere near the game it once was. It will never be the game it once was. Is it hard to understand that?

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

And yeah you can experiment on the camps but they are not very interesting I will agree with you there maybe thats why they are hard to find who knows, but architects also got the elite harvs as well I forgot to mention take up 3 lots and capped at 44 BER, very resource heavy but are no easy task to get right so these is what I craft a lot of yes I am an architent AS Domestics and DE lol, I did say I liked the game didnt I,
Also loads more comming for architects on tuesday with chapter 6

And if the DWB was difficult would you want a low level in your group? Would you want to rely on him to watch your back?

I dont think levels seperate the community to be honest no, infact I would say they add content in a way, some quests cant be repeated but lower levels need to do them and helping them out with it is a lot of fun and rewarding, so in fact I would say if anything they bring the community together and so it should, cause there are idiots who dont like lower levels in every MMO SWG is no different.I would like the DWB to be alot harder then it is that is no secret and if it was yes I would still take lower levels there with me, after all why shouldnt they experience all the game has to offer just because they havent finished leveling yet, I wouldnt think of it as weather he has my back or not rather if I have his, if I took a low level into a very hard instance or area i would look on it as it was on me to keep him alive not the other way around.
Daneti,
You make some interesting points. However it still does not persuade me from my opinions on the direction this game is going. I guess it comes down to one's personal philosophy of what an MMO is to them, and this version is simply not agreeing with me. I had 2 chances to try this game out and both times I was completely bored to tears.
Everything that is touted as exciting and new feels like a poor version of what we had before. This is just unexceptable to me. I do not want to accept mediocrity, and that is the best SWG can offer me right now - mediocrity.
In short, I may have been uninformed on some aspects of the current version, and I accept that. But this still does not explain why I found this game unimaginative and uninspiring.
I'm just not feeling it. I can find many other MMO's that give me the same level of entertainment (which isn't much) but in a much more completed form.
I guess i just felt that I would put my head on the shopping block to if I could actually point a different put of view across, one from someone who is very active on this game and pretty much plays every profession, so that way i could in fact answer any question asked which I hope that I have done.
Maybe you will take a stab at a trial again once a few more things have either comeback or been added that is up to you but if I have at least corrected and few misconceptions about the game then I am happy, because I have done what I set out to do.
