So if Huxley is release free to play (like guild wars) - that means it will be completely instanced (Like Guild Wars) and your PvP experience will be limited to 16 players (like Guild Wars).

Theres a reason the free to play FPS games are limited to 32, 48 or 64 people. Lag / Bandwith / Server Grunt / Cost.

If you want a MMO FPS then its going to be a lot more bandwidth /cost intensive than Guild Wars. Which is why they need the monthly fee to keep it up and running.

The majority of a retail box sales goes to the Publisher, then the store with the developer making like $5 to $7 a copy. With Guild Wars - NCSoft is both the publisher and the company running the servers - so the majority of the box $ can go to paying the running cost of the game.

If Huxley doesnt have the same model - ie if someone else is the publisher, but Webzen are providing the servers they need the monthly fee to make up the difference for the revenue they didnt get from the box sale.

So free to play and free to download games are even better then the pay to get the game and it's free to play online. Like shadowmage just said that GuildWars is limited on pvp and over here I am playing a big time pvp mmo that is free all the way around and is capable of having big time pvp. So I kinda feel sorry for the GuildofWars people. Check out silkroad they have a huge pvp system and it's freaken free to play all the way around. There servers are  powerful as hell. Man they have like 15 servers up already. They get  new servers buy the smallest amount of sells they get from people buying items from there item mall. Some games like Huxley might sell on the thousands if it's good and make alot of cash. So shadowmage I really don't see the point to your post.

I will be playing on the Xbox 360 and why should I have to pay another online fee, I am subscribed to live, like a lot of people who have the 360  and that's is all I should need. To not pay, and play an MMO is a turn on to me, and pay to play isn't, games can make money without you paying.

You're subscribed to live yes, but you don't need to subscrube to live gold to play this game, as long as you have a live connection as in silver, where you don't pay a cent you can still play this game, its the same with FFXI for the 360, if you don't plan on playing anything else on xbox live then cancel it to a silver membership.

And as for the F2P vs P2P.  This game will most likely be P2P,  if it isn't it will just be a whole bunch of laggy servers with people crying about disconnects and glitches.  I will definately play it if it is P2P but if it isn't i refuse to play it as F2P since it needs the updates and quality servers to make it reasonably fun.  And imagine giant 200vs200 firefights on a F2P server, hell do you think F2P will be able to support that many players in the first place? let alone in the same area?  P2P is the only way for this game to go. Seriously

And SilkRoad is better than alot of MMO's you pay for yeah, but those MMO's have probably been going since SilkRoad was just a thought in someones head.  And SilkRoad isnt that fun, its a pure grindfest, even moreso then WoW.  Especially after lvl 15, it just isn't that fun to play.

Has anyone have tried to play the demo of Huxley yet? I have! I've played it before and got the demo from sponsored site that supports Huxley, but it was a beta version. It was an awesome MMORPG game, but its version has expired, so it sucks. But the beta version that I've played was a korean beta. I didn't understand very much about what they were saying, tho. lol....

I think for the 360 there will be a free and a pay service and the pay gets more. I read this somewhere but don't remember where.

The idea of MMOFPS is great! Hope they would make it interesting. I would like to see in town that u can see your charr and be able to play social 3rd person RPG... and have included some events or even mini games (when u are away from battle- main game). Mini games like racing cars or playing sports of some kind or having fairs :) ... or sth they shoul put that in...

Monthly payment? I wont play games with monthly payment ever. Yes, i agree if you look from company perspective that you need good servers and issue no lag and so on... but i see this mainly from my perspective (customer, player): First i dont focuse on one game, and second i could play that game every saturday (becouse of every day work) ...wich is 4 days per month. Will i pay for 4 day play per month? NO never. The game industry should think about that for a sec. And dont get me wrong i got plenty of money, and that would not be an issue, but will never give it away for almost nothing.

Suggestion: Make Game a bit  more expensive and offer some sort 10 days per month play, or sth, without monthly fee. That would be the option for me an my kin.

hmmm what if there was a one time fee, like...i dunno. you pay $15 a month. but after you've payed $500 you dont have to pay anymore.

or, hey, thatd be sweet, paying $15 a month. everytime you pay, lets say...$150, you get a free month...thatd be awsome!

  • DrTHDrTH Member Posts: 41

If you can't afford $15.00 a month, you are too poor to play a game.  You time might be better spent learning skills worth something to the marketplace.

Hate to break it to you, I can easily afford to pay. I never said I couldn't, stop just guessing things. (And you're saying I should go learn things, if you are a smart person you don't just assume and guess). People can argue about this all day though, you can have a great game for free. If it were free, many more people would play.

I, for my part, hope this will be a pay to play game. This because it will assure me that they have ppl working on getting the game better. Unfortunately, having to pay for the game won't stop the uncool kids from world of warcraft to infest this fine game. But atleast we can kill 'em right?

The first thing about F2P vs P2P that i have noticed. And yes i have played a lot of MMO's both free and pay.

You arguments about guild wars being so great coz it is free. I bought guild wars played it for 2 hrs and throw it in the bin.  The attatude and mentality of the players ruined the game. Also being heavily instanced just sucked balls

P2P games i have have found have been a lot better than the free to play. Mainly for content wise to keep you playing.

    rofl!

Well I guess I'll put my two cents in lol. First of all, this thread is dumb, idn how you can flame each other about whether a game that has not been released yet will be F2P or P2P.

Personally, because I'm only 15, I would prefer a free game. Of course, that might change next year since imma get a job and be able to afford good games like these. But it all depends on who you are lol.

My favourite MMO right now is Silkroad, not just because its free, but I just like the game. I know it's a grindfest, but I kinda like the idea of having to work hard to have a better character than another guy, then pwning him in the nice PvP system Silkroad has. It's not an arena where you PvP like alot of other MMOs, but instead you go jobbing with other ppl and come across people to kill, so you always have to be on guard.

On the other hand, I've tried Guild Wars before...meh. Kinda lame...

Then there was WoW, but I can't say I had the full experience as I played on a...well...not so public server? You know, just to try it out. It was alright, just different grinding from Silkroad, which I guess I'm used to by now. I was just about to switch to this game anyways, because of all the dam BOTTERS, but just today Joymax did something about bots in SRO.  So many familar botters banned xD.

Anyways, it all depends on who you are. It's unfair to say that all P2Ps are better than F2Ps, I think SRO is doing great, even though ppl say they're the ones who made the bot and are selling it lol. That said, I will say that in general, P2Ps are better, which makes sense, but the monthly fee could be a turn off to various ppl, even if money is not a problem for that individual.

edit: dam BOTTERS = on SRO

The biggest reason to be pay 2 play is for game integrity sake.

PvP games have historically  long suffered from hacking, duping and other forms of cheating. Unfortunately, it will exist in Huxley too. P2P games force game makers to ensure security or at least try to do so.  Servers are historically much more secure(yes I know they are not perfect and in some games have still been bad) when they are not free games.

since Huxley will have adds in game, i think this will reduce the cost of Monthly payments. i mean. the bandwidth will need to be high, but keep in mind that its going to be 5,000 people in one server. so they will only need a few servers... probably Central Servers West and East servers, and a few europe servers.

anyways.. back on topic, i dont think that the cost will be too hight, lets say 5,000 people play on a server, they all pay $10 a month...

thats 50,000 dollars a month that Webzen has to fund the server... you would think that would cover it.

    ^^ Stuff i say ^^

I know other has made a comment to your post, and I'd like to agree with them.  A monthly payment shouldn't be a turnoff - it means you'll get more game content and quality overall.

Okay, that's your thoughts, but I'm also paying for Xbox Live which means I would have to pay two online fees where it should be one.

The thing about XBL is that goes to microsft. IT goes to microsoft so tehy can keep up the servers that they use for their setup, the developers see nothing off that but it takes strain off them for hosting online servers. With games like Huxley and Final Fantasy, microsoft does not host those servers. Those servers are run by the developers as well as providing the gm's and the content updates. These updates are much different hte the usual bug fixes and weapon balances we get in your average shooter. These actually add things to the game not to mention balancing for an RPG is a much bigger task with so many skills and weapons and so on.

I understand you dont like the thought of paying both but that is jsut the way it works. XBL and the monthly fees for 360 MMO's are seperate and  dont think it will change unless webzen makes some sort of alternate payment plan using ingame adds.

If you're a Gold member of XBL then you're paying the fee (so am I, btw) for the services provided, which are completely separate from any additional fees from MMO games. That is precisely why Silver members can play MMOs -- they are not using the Live service at all. Gold members such as myself pay MS for the Live services they provide, and we pay Webzen, Square, Funcom, or whomever else has the balls to release an MMO on a console for the services that they provide. It's that simple.

Im 15 so I dont have a credit card but I like the look of this game I want it to be F2P  but can understand why it is P2P
  • shilakshilak Member Posts: 78

Problem is people want MMOs to be ...

    1) Free downloads,

    2) Free to play,

    3) Bug free,

    4) Exploit free,

    5) Lag free.

Seeing a trend here? Yup, thats right, people want everything for free.

Unfortunately, that isnt going to happen, in order to have bug free/exploit/lag free MMO there will always be a cost somewhere, be it through expansion sales, monthly fees and/or the company selling some sort of better service (item sales, etc).

Personally I am hoping they will go for a monthly fee with a free download and/or a boxed version (with a month included) for shops which is priced appropriately (i.e. box production costs plus the a months sub).
