What would you like to see in WAR?

I'm not talking about DE classes, but different NPC's and scenarios and whatnot.

Personally, I'd like to see a casket of souls.  Imagine climbing a huge pyramid while fighting off legions of undead and the trapped souls flying out of it, all the while slowly tearing you down.  And then at the top, with whatever rag team you managed to bring up there, you have to take on a lich priest.

Mengil might be cool, but he might also butcher the teen rating.  Google him if you don't know what I'm talking about.  He makes hannibal seem like a boy-scout.

As for scenarios, I'd like some truly unique ones other than capture the flag (Although those are necessary for any good MMO).  I'm thinking some scenarios like a smaller group of dwarf players have to hold a mountain pass (I.E. they're in a defensive position) with a few cannons until reinforcements arrive.  However, a much larger greenskin force of players is laying seige to the pass.  That way you don't have the stereotypical even sides fighting for control of a tower or something.

BTW, I'm stuck at college and everyone's left for home, so I have WAY too much time.

Oh, and the green knight.  That guy was so annoying on tabletop, always respawning.  I'd love to kill him in game.

I'd love to see some Mordheim style scenarios.

6 man group vs group pvp in a dungeon type environment. With random chests, the occasional monster, and all that.

It would be pretty slick, if they did it right. Well, I think it would, anyway.

You are in luck as Mythic has announced there will be something like this in the game, ala Darkness Falls for DAoC. Basically a huge PvP-enabled dungeon.

It would not be strictly 6 vs 6 as is not an instance, but it would be the next near thing I guess :D

I get the funny feeling the world based battlefields will be about as fun and imbalanced as the world based pvp objectives in WoW.  I certainly hope I'm wrong.  Whether or not WAR's world based Battlegrounds come up short I'd like to see the inclusion of more large scale scenarios.  The small (4 vs 4, 6 vs 6) and quick scenarios sound fine but this is Warhammer we're talking about, not Counterstrike or Guild Wars.  I had a blast playing on 64 player BF1942 & BF2 servers and despite it's glaring flaws, also enjoyed the 40 vs. 40 combat in WoW's Alterac Valley Battleground with its mix of pvp and pve combat.

Basically I want lots of epic 40 vs. 40 or larger sized battles that take a half hour or so to complete.  Cool and exotic locales, numerous and varied battlefield objectives, boss NPCs to attack or defend, etc.

It would also be nice to see a few of these battles intentionally designed to involve all Order and Chaos factions.  This could be facilitated by allowing entrance to the scenarios via special NPCs found in a few towns or cities in each race's capital city or tier 4 region.  VPs would be distributed evenly among the factions for Order or Chaos.

Here's two ideas for large scenario off the top of my head...

Naval battles - At the onset of the battle two massive warships would either automatically close distance and ram or grapple to allow melee combat to begin or... the scenario could begin with the ships already along side each other.  Extra VPs for the side that manages to raid the cargo hold of the enemy ship for special loot and kill the enemy captain (boss NPC).

Seaborne Raids a/k/a "Saving Private Grok" - Scenario in the sprit of Unreal Tournament's Assault maps.  Attackers begin the scenario on the far shore and embark on a finite number of boats which automatically travel between shores or... the boats could be beached at the beginning of the scenario with the attackers spawning in the ships' holds.  The defenders fight from trenches and fixed defensive positions further inland.  The scenario could then flip and let the defending team go on the attack.  To liven things up the attackers' boats could be equipped with player controlled catapaults or cannons and the defenders positions could have the same.   The attackers get extra VPs by securing as many strategic points on the beach as possible with the grand prize being the defender's bunker/fort and taking down its boss NPC.  The defenders get extra VPs by simply holding those same points but can get serious VPs if they manage to destroy/burn as many of the attackers' boats as posssible.

Sorry, but no more crap-toon games for me.  I'd like to see realistic graphics in a serious game world.  This crap-toon crap style of design (like WOW) just doesn't float my wood.

    8v8 group roaming openworld PvP

and a leader board updated daily so we know what the score is and who is winning

  • sabboksabbok Member Posts: 12

8vs8 pvp land with a leaderboard, EPIC 40 vs 40 like "WoW"....

Guys, this kinda stuff is already available on this, and on a much larger scale in DAoC.  Personally in DAoC I've fought in 100 vs 100 or 100 vs 200 battles over keeps, relics, etc.  It's funny how everytime someone brings up PVP rarely do they make a reference to DAoC's RVR system which is the ultimate in PVP and what Mythic will be basing some of their mechanics on from their experiences with DAoC.  Honestly I have yet to play a game that matches this system on such a scale as they've achieved.

To give further examples, I've been in 16 vs 60ish and won being the 16 guys inside a keep (old RVR days before new frontiers)

If you want to actually get a taste for what a real battle can be in an MMO, DAoC will be what can tide you over until WAR hits the shelves.  Admittingly the graphics may be slightly dated, but most times I'm more worried about staying alive then looking at trees and if my armor shines in the right light.

I would like to see less instancing, imo instanced battels have too much importance in the design right now.

In all reality instanced battles, of any kind of FPS like style, be it CTF, Domination, Conquer or any other goal objective encounter, that end when one team reaches the goals faster then the other, is too easy.

If this kind of PvP has the most importance in PvP everyone will be doing this, as it requires the least effort and we are all humans after all, instead of just unleashing their wrath on the enemies lands like how it was in DAoC, not to mention that solo PvP although it can be done in the instanced battlles it is much more rewarding in the true world of the game..

Maybe not exactly the answer the OP aimed for but hey this is what  i would like too see.

I actually like instanced pvp because it gives the devs the freedom to write more tailored scenarios.  I thought that Bliz's Alterac Valley battleground, in its origional incarnation, was a tremendous amount of fun.  What i most want to see in WAR is direct tie-ins between the instanced pvp scenarios and world pvp.  For example, with WoW's battlegrounds, you never had to leave town to participate, id much rather have seen a single instance portal in a contested zone that every player, regardless of faction, would have to fight their way to if they wanted to join.  Regardless of the 'weight' the instances carry within the over-arching theme of rvr, they need to be tied directly into the immediate conflict within the zone which they are taking place.  Bliz went the totally wrong direction with their BG's by insulating players who wanted to come to blows from one another.

you originally did have to travel to do a bg before battle masters but the portals were still split between horde and alli
  • DnomsedDnomsed Member UncommonPosts: 261
True, Carl, but in 2 of 3 BG's the portals were so far apart as to completely isolated from one another and in the 3rd they were even in seperate zones.  In the case of AV, the portals even went so far as to encourage people to travel along lines that would keep them from encountering enemies in a former hotbed of overworld pvp Tarrenmill/southshore.  Totally the wrong tack to take from a pvp perspective.

I am playing a game called dawnspire (free game, but can upgrade via payment) they have incorporated a thing called relic conquest. It is kinda like capture the flag except that the flags spawn with a time interval and that capturing it does not mean that you hold it till the end e.g. the other side can take them again. Also each relic has a negative property e.g. one that burns everyone around them for alot of dmg or that at random times stuns everyone or one that snares. I personally enjoy fighting those battles as they are very dynamic also they implimented a time factor so some battles end as draws as both sides have the same amount of relics captured and one is free. This I would love to see since I find it fun and challenging epesially since even a loosing time can turn the tide and team play is promoted in this form

More than two sides.I wish there would be internal mini-wars in chaos and order,on a timer or something like that.Atm it seems like you either zerg back and fourth between to capitols,or fight your way into an instanced which I could already do on a fps server for 1/3 the price.

My answer is in your question. I want to see real WAR, like in warhammer books. Brutal, bloody and dark world where is only war and nothing else. There must be a lot of RvR and PvP content. Personaly im waiting for DE Melee DPS class. Also i hope there will not  be stealth in the game, its unhonorable way of fighting.

I actually just read up on the bloodthirster that they're implementing into the game, and thought about those massive fights where you have melee guys hammering at the feet and hooves of monsters.  While it's cool battling huge monsters like that, it seems very unrealistic when they die because of a hammer to the toe (Or hooves in this case).

That's when I thought it'd be really cool if they implemented flying mounted combat into this, that you needed to be higher in the air to attack a vital part of the bloodthirster, like the head or the belly.  That way, the animation for the bloodthirster wouldn't be him stomping for most of his attacks.

That and it'd be so badass to fly in with your huge team of wyverns/dragons/pegasi to battle this huge beast.

I want to see the PvP, but i also really want to see awesome boss battles in pve. i looked at some of the artwork (http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/highelves/extras/artwork/artwork3.htm) and man i'd love to play that. But i fear the focus is so great on PvP, that this kind of thing will not be given too much attention.

I want to see a focus on large scale battles. I want a brand new experience. I want to raid a city and take it over. I want to see the streets turn red coated in blood and bones. I want good, meaningful pvp and the freedom to do PvE if I so desire to enrich my role playing experience. I want a brand new game- not a rehash of old MMORPGs. I want WAR- the features they have already promised is fine with me just do it well is all I ask.

No instances ... they are anti mmo they are mfo (multi few online) .

They kill the radomness of rvr and its group tactics also.

Another cool PvE thing that would be awesome IMO would be to destroy the skaven Screaming Bell.  You'd get to fight through hords of skaven, climb a scaffold, and try to tear down that bell.

I forgot what the bell actually did, but I remember it was very evil and I bear a grudge against that thing.
