Hi guys, As you know DAOC has had a bit of a resurgence. The game is solid and quite fun to play. If you are wanting to know how to get back into this game ill give you some pointers.

Here they are:

1. As a new player I recommend starting characters on the classic servers. Gareth, Lamorak or Ector. After you have played here a while going to a TOA server is up to you. But here on classic its much easier to get groups and for me much more fun.

2. Your first class should be a farmer. What I mean is to have a class that will help you support your other characters as you play into the game. Here is a list of classes for each realm that I consider a great farming class.(good at pve solo.)

Albion: Really only two choices IMO. The best is probably a Reaver. This class is great for farming. It is also decent at pvp/rvr.

My second pick is a Necromancer. This class is uberlicious in pve. Pvp they are good early on. But  at 40+ they are a bit lacking.

Midgard: The best farming class currently IMO of the whole game is in midgard. My top pick is a Bonedancer. This class is extremely easy to level and is the only class I have seen currently that can fight a purple/red con solo as well as 3-5 blues at one time and pull it out. This character is also the only class that  you can level wearing only your noob gear or no gear at all. My second choice for midgard is a Valkrie. Valkrie are good at pvp/rvr and decent at farming. This is another class that is fairly easy to level up.

Hibernia: The worst of the three realms for a farming character. But they do have two classes that work. The first among these classes is a Vampiir. This class gets stronger the longer they stay in a fight. My second choice currently is a enchanter. Hibernia has it rough. For me pre the last patch I would have taken a animalist as the top farming class of all time. But recently this class was nerfed due to how powerful being a shroomer is.

3. Getting into a guild. I know you start out in the noobie guild for whichever realm you are in. But staying in it only limits your late to end game experience. join a real guild in a alliance is key. I recomment this once you are familiar with the game and your character.

4.Dont be shy, DAOC is fairly close knit. the community is by far one of the best of any mmo I have played.

5, Explore.. DAOC is immersive and large. lots of things to do. Lots of quests, lots of places and at 50 Champion gear!!

Hope you enjoy the game.

    1.  There is no reason I would recomend going classic anymore.  After this next patch every zone will be clustered except housing.  Further, the final nerfs to ToA and making it a group based expansion.  So there will be plenty of groups trying to form and the game will have a decent population at peak times.  The only thing going for classic as a newplayer is that there will be more people around that are 1-20 on those servers.

    2.  You should pick a class you think will be fun and not a farmer.  If you say pick a farmer for your first class then you you might end up playing a class you do not like up to 50 and then leveling another toon up to 50 and then equipming it.  You should have no problem equiping your character whether or not you have a farmer or not.  I think it is advisable to have one, but there really is no reason to have one as your first toon.  As for Hib, yeah the last past destroyed animists making them virtually useless as a class/farmer.  The class to go with is an Enchanter.  The PbAoE and Pet are superior to using a vamp because the vamp can only take down one at a time and he takes longer than the Enchanter.

    3.  Yes joining a guild is very important.  Once you know the basic mechanics of your character go and find a real guild.  Even if things do not work out you can quit it and join another one.  You can set your /looking for guild flag and you can also go here and click guild news for guilds that are looking for member:  http://www.camelotherald.com/community/

    4.  Feel free to ask questions to anymore.  Most of them will be willing to answer you unless they are /afk or really busy.

    5.  Yes, try to get groups that will go out and explore.  This is hard as because with level based games people are wanting to level so they find a spot and just keep killing.  If you do not want to go kill, but want to level, them go to the Catacombs zones.  They have the best XP quests in the game.  The Champion quests that start at 30 are also nice and will take you around to different places if you want to sight see.

Where did ya get your information on this? I really can't see them clustering  classic servers with the ToA servers. If anything they will have two clusters at the very least.

He said that every zone will be clustered, he didn't say anything about toa being clustered with classic :P.

Even if the new player chooses a farmer class as their first char they still don't know the best places to farm, hell, they hardly know anything about the game. You can always ask, yeah, but they should still choose a class that interests them.

I have to say there are more than one type of farmer high end loot farmers and just mass loot farmers ... this is more about mass and solo.

Alb: Nercos are great, reavers are not

frairs, heretics and mauler (maulers later on) are good farmers

Mid: Valks are wonderful farmers, bds are good

hib: best farming all around realm. Vampiirs are kings of farming, plus i foget which id it is but its in KF it drops like 2-3x the auru than other dungeons of the same level (for anyrealm) ments are WONDERFUL farmers. Shroomers are still strong but they never really been farmers - pow issues and pets don't move.

As for high level solo farmers there are a few but the one peopel over look ice thruegs they can take reds all day. and purps are possible.

Reavers are not good farmers. Nec, friar, maulers are good. If you don't have a bot I definately think friar or mauler is the way to go.

As others have said choose a class you want to play. If you decide you need a toon to farm, then decide. Its not fun leveling in DAoC, and you don't want to do it if not possible.

Classes in high demand all the time:

Alb: Sorceror, Theurgist, Cleric, Paladin - these will guarantee you a group every single night.

Hib: Druid, Bard. Besides those two, I don't know what classes are in demand in hib. Been awhile since I played there. Their main CC class would always get a group. Something like mana eldrith, I think. Could be wrong.

Mid: Healer, Spiritmaster. Again other than those two, I have no idea.

All these classes are in very, very high demand. Other classes that are asked for are high DPS casters. Most tanks are not easily grouped, because groups usually only run with 1 or 2. That spot is almost always spoken for by someone else.

Classes that are frustrating to find a group:

Any melee toon. Any stealth toon. Minstrel and skald.

This is my experience in DAoC, which I have been playing off and on for 4 years now.
