Found this at IGN, with some mention of what is coming down the pipeline the next few months. There's even a mention of an instance being added:
Though an actual expansion pack has yet to materialize, the folks at Sigil shared some changes for Vanguard to take place through free updates over the coming weeks and months. Most interesting were the permanent groups to be rolled out in a few weeks, where six players can create lasting bonds that function outside of regular grouping. Once the permanent group has been set, those included earn a fraction of the experience gained by other playing around the world if they're in other groups or even offline. This way friends can stay at relatively similar progress levels if they need to take a break for a while. Should one or more members start freeloading experience points, the permanent group can be adjusted by booting them and inviting replacements. High level raid content is being added in as well with the Stiirhad instance, located in the continent of Qalia, and the Port Warehouse dungeon in Thestra. Both will feature new enemy types, story elements, weapons, armor, and items, and Stiirhad will be the only place to acquire the new Wyrum flying mount.Vanguard's diplomacy system will also see an upgrade, as Sigil plans on making it progress much faster at early levels with the intention of making it more accessible to new players. The system's role in the overall game will be increased in breadth in future expansions as well. Past the first expansion, Sigil is planning on expanding the role of ships by building more ocean content, enabling ship-to-ship combat, and generally making ships more viable.Beyond that players can expect bug fixes, such as rectifying a coin duplication problem, a more detailed looking for group system, as well as tweaks to improve Vanguard's performance. We'll have more as soon as we hear it.

I like the permanent groups idea. I hope some other game steals it. Star Trek.. I'm looking at you.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Pretty interesting stuff. Kind of shocked that they are planning on adding an instance, but not as dissapointed as I thought I might be by such news. I just hope they don't go too too crazy with instances.
I love the idea of ocean content and ship to ship combat. Also, I love the screenshots on that page, this one in particular. Just a darn kewl screenshot.
He does say that there aren't any current plans to make it instanced, but that doesn't completely rule it out. And it doesn't rule out any future instanced encounters, either.
Of course, I never understood the hatred for instances that some folks have. If done correctly, with story driven content, instances can be pretty cool. *shrug*
I love the wording of it, "permanent group" more than likely stolen from AC's old vassel system.
Have to love people introducing an old concept as new by trying to use a different word for it.

Personally, I'd rather they go the proven route of instancing as well, since not a lot of Vanguard players care about AES at the moment or even know what it is. It's going to be an uphill battle for Sigil when they do get around to making AES-driven raid events; if AES is to ever compare with the raiding of instanced games.Personally, I like the use of instances for dungeon crawls. Players don't have to worry about spawn camping, which makes planning an event a whole lot easier.
Btw, nice pic AA.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
I like the premanent group idea. Regardless of whether its taken from an old MMO or not, its still a good idea that I'd like to see included in more MMOs.
I have no problem with the addition of any instances. I personally like instanced dungeons. Instancing can be over-used like it is in Guild Wars, which takes away from the overall experience. WoW on the other hand I think balances instaning well. Only dungeons are instanced, which I find to be a good idea. Non-instanced dungeons are just a pain. You have to deal with spawn camping and usually super fast respawns.
The ship to ship combat in a nice idea. It'll be interesting to see how they implement it.
I've been debating giving Vanguard another try. This all sounds like positive progress to me. If they keep it up I may have to go back for a second look.
