I wanna try the game properly.. but its impossible .... and i need a tip:

Is this game so hardware demanding?? Considering the very simple/poor graphics .. i am using athlon xp 2600+, 512mb ddr, His excalibur x1600 pro agp 256mb, 1mb bothways connection ..... i even tried setting graphics settings a lot lower .. and i get around 9 fps in less populated areas even.. like the starting tutorial zone .. thats a joke.. totally unplayable . Is something wrong?

From my understanding, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, one of the biggest issues with performance in second life a lot of what you would think of as lag or stuttering is caused by the fact that every object in SL is streaming and uploaded to your client in real time.

What this means basically is that while having a good computer will help, it's not going to be sure fire that you'll ever get decent FPS's. Hardware wise, think more RAM as this will help translate what's being processed to the GPU faster, a better Vidy card, unfortunately for that your looking at a major re-work of your system to go to PCI-E or the like but it would help to some degree.

The bigger difference is made in network connection, there is a huge amount of streaming data comming in and out from SL so your actually internet connection may not be suffecient, yes even at 1mb down/up. 5MB down, 800kps up,  is pretty standard for broadband these days, you may want to think of upgrading. Also, there's some nice tweaks to the network setting that can be found on the SL official forums, I'll see what I can do about tracking those down for you.

Viewing distance can affect gameplay here too, try playing around with it in your settings, since again your downloading content in real time, the less you're downloading at any given time, the better it's going to be.

Hard to imagine all the numerous people playing the game having top notch hardware and connections.. and yea i've tried setting minimal graphics settings .. minimal distance etc .. using ati tray tool to show fps .. and its mostly 9 in populated zones , so i thought it was some weird issue

Its not the streaming lag.. it looks like videocard fps lag ... cause the fps is same low even after all the textures appeared, in the starting zone for example ..... its definitely as if my videocard is too weak .. i know its not too nice, but wth .... i get atleast twice higher fps in Oblivion with a lot higher graphical settings even ...this is plain weird  :o

    /sigh

If your not going to even read when someone try's to help, why ask in the first place???

I was going to try again but what's the point... There's lots of posts on this subject on the official forums, go NOT read some stuff there.

Well I have a AMD Athlon xp 1800+ 1.5 GHz with 512 MB ram, a radeon x1600 pro 512 mb AGP card, and cable modem. The game always uses 100% CPU and almost always lags, but it is barable and I only have a problem with 30+ people.  Besides that I do well like just about everyone else in SL. I dont kow what FPS I get but when I look at the top right coner of screen, I am at usually 30 kbps banwidth.

    1) /sigh is my line .. wth are you being whiny about? i don't see how i ignored anything you said .. i told you its definitely not connection based lag ..i get that too during zone teleportation - all the textures are appearing, the music/videos starting ...its the same graphics rendering lag, when your videocard isn't fast/powerfull enough. But my videocard should handle SL properly, thats why i thought it was some weird issue.. might be some setting, incompatibility etc

2)i've just tried setting everything on max details .. and i've got twice better performance.... its playable now, though still wishes for extra smoothness .... weird huh , gonna test different settings again and try to figure out myself

    3) I would check the official SL forum if i could log in there ... it won't let me, saying my payment info isn't filled in or something like that... and i am not planning on doing that

There is not much diffent on how the game run on my laptop (Pentium M 1800, radeon 9700, 2GB) and my PC (Q6600, Geforce 8800, 4GB Ram). so don't look like you get much out of better hardware.
