I also play maybe 2-3 hours a day, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more. Anyone playing it more will find out the harschness of life sooner or later. Not that I care.
maybe it is an old video, but...wtf 16 hours a day!? i got a friend that played wow and he played like 8 hours a day and i already thought that was alot.
Lol...dude if you guys think that is crazy check this two year old kid in China. He's starting so early in video games. He could be the next fatality in video games. I kinda feel sad for him.
I play City of Heroes not World of Warcraft, but gaming addiction?..... LAWL it's just as ridiculous as the people who accused rock music of changing people's behavior and others who think sweets have additives in them that do the same, there was a poll that was released in which quite a few gamers said that you would seriously have to have something wrong with you already mentally if your actually influenced by that sort of thing.
I myself think games are a great way to help peoples' anger, if I get pissed off at something I don't go hitting someone over it unless it's in self-defence, I just log on Counterstrike or even Oblivion and play it until I feel calm again. As for as I'm concerned there is no such thing as gaming addiction and if people ARE addicted they've either got something wrong with them already and have managed to find something that influenced them finally.
Come to think of it, if you folks want to escape from gaming that badly, don't post on an MMORPG forum and go live in China, apparently there the Government actually limit the amount of time people can play on MMORPG's, this kind of thing is old, just get over it, the government isn't going to go and make laws to stop people playing games because it would not only be a waste of time and money trying to shut developers down but far too many people would go against it, especially since it only seems to be the odd vocal few that are complaining about this, I don't see a bunch of flames telling us to get off our computers here do you? I wouldn't be surprised if people started trying to target religion next.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
buddy your in denial.. you have gaming addicition? What exactly is an addiction? it's doing something to relieve stress or pain to a degree that you automatically turn to it.. like when you had a bad day and go home and play video games.. hell we all do.. people think addiction is a bad thing.. it's only bad when it harms you or someone else.. but you ARE a videogame addict
Blame his parents, WTF isn’t he in school? WTF doesn’t she break the computer, pansy ass kinds and pansy as parents.

He probably a guild leader leading his guild through a WoW raid. Really, any group of 40 5 years old and below can beat WoW raids way to easy. But its an easy mode game, hard to see why people above age 8 get addicted to something that requires the attention span of a gold fish. LOL.

Ridiculous? The only ridiculous thing here is your stupid post.
The phenomena is called behavioral addiction and got to do with dopamine and the neurons in your brain getting accustomed to having that same dopamine around. You "accomplish" something good and your brain releases dopamine to make you feel rewarded. It works pretty much like gambling that millions of people are addicted to. Maybe you are also denying cocaine/crack addiction? Guess what, it's also dopamine.
It got absolutely nothing to do with rock music changing peoples behavioral patterns (I'm not saying rock music does that, just that it got nothing to do with dopamine or brain chemistry). I guess you could say that gaming addiction doesn't exist, because it is in fact dopamine addiction and instead of smoking crack you consume games for your "fix".
I'm happy that you have such a therapeutical relationship to gaming.
I don't want to get involved in this argument, but....Holy shit this chinnese boy played 36 hours straight then killed himself!?!?!? Man I never played WoW and you have convinced me to never get it...
Did anyone notice the lack of a father, the lack of a disciplinarian?
I did right away, being a product of divorced parents and raised by a single mother since 11 years old. This story isn't about video game addiction, rather a sad commentary about the flaws of single parenting, which is mostly conducted by females. Without a positive male role model to set and enforce boundaries, children will often spin out of control and make lifealtering mistakes, like this kid did by dropping out of school.
Mothers rarely are the disciplinarians and don't evoke the type of healthy fear and respect that children show their fathers. It is essential for children to be raised by both a positive female role model and a positive male role model, both of which traditionally bring different important skills to the child rearing process.
No one will make him quit except himself. If you force a kid to stop something they want it only makes it more desirable. He'll grow and learn and yeah maybe regret it but all his parents can do is try and reduce the damage caused ^^ nagging him and bitching about him on telly isn't going to make him look fondly upon them.
If the parents would just take it away and bend his arm (and watch him to make sure he doesn't do it) he'll start to develop different hobbies like doing drugs and drinking

Sounds mostly like bad parenting, school problems, lack of real social skills etc. All in all he hasnt been raised properly IMO.

I'm used to be a hardcore MMO addict, and I can safely say MMO addiction has zero to do with the game that is played and alot more to do with outside problems, like the person above described. I used to play about 13 hours a day on weekends, 6 hours on weekdays. I don't play MMOs anymore, finally tore myself away from them but stil like to read about what's going on and have better control over myself. Obviously we don't know him or the family enough to make a true judgement but he probably has problems fitting in with school, lack of a strong role model and low self-esteem, among other things. His mum seems to have no grip on him. I hope he gets the help he needs and deserves, his situation was alot like mine.

So every kid is either going to be a video game addict or a drug and alcohol abuser?
Bloody hell, just looked throught the posts that were finally made after mine and.... Come up with some better arguments? All I've seen people say here is that I'm addicted or that I'm using games as my fix? wow that's really sad, so people would rather I go out punching people on the street and joining criminal gangs instead of taking my anger out on a game where no one gets hurt?
This thread should be locked, the OP was just begging to see how many flames he'd get for posting this -_-
As for those of you who are against games, come up with some better bloody arguments instead of trying to use science speak and downright insults to try and make an argument.

I did when BC was first released..First BElf Paladin to 70 solo XD Then I got bored and now... Well, I play EQ2 about 2-3 hours sometimes more, but not so much.
Was a fun run though
Edit: I still don't swear much and am still calm as ever. And I've been gaming daily for.. what.. 12-15 years..
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.
Comments
looks quite an old video..do you think he still plays that much now?
maybe hes one of those types on the official forums telling people under 70 to go level if they have an opinion.
In 1999, I played EverQuest about 4-5 hours on the average day, but there were certainly several weekends I chose to play 14-16 hours a day.
I know I couldn't do that with any MMO now if I tried.
Hey Everyone

Or a good Karate instructor at least;
Randy: How'd I raise a child as smart as you?
Stan: I had a good teacher.
Randy: Thanks Stan.
Stan: Dad, I'm talking about my karate teacher.
Randy: Oh.
