just had to share this story...

this one is great. i freed myself of Vanguard a few weeks ago, but when i heard this story from a personal friend, i just felt compelled to return to these forums to share it.

my wife's brother is head of security at the Best Buy in my city.  during a conversation he had asked me if i was still playing Vanguard. I said no. he said he had a funny story about a customer that got pretty steaming mad while trying to return his copy of Vanguard for a cash refund.  the Best Buy customer service wouldnt refund his money because the software seal was opened.  the customer, standing there with his little daughter, starts freaking out and cursing about how he got ripped off.  i guess it was pretty disruptive and so my brother-in-law goes over to calm the customer down or ask him to leave the building. to get the guy out of the place, the store manager offered to give the guy store credit. lol so the guy accepts the credit but doesnt leave. he walks around shopping with his daughter. five minutes later he comes to the checkout counter. what does he have? a copy of a Hello Kitty video game for his daughter.  l m f a o.

even swap, downgrade, or upgrade?! hello kitty > vanguard?

a priceless and true story.  enjoy

Lmao i work at circuit city and I have yet to experience something like that.

Fun. Although I do love customers that think they can outsmart me... bringing back a game that I know came with a CD key and returning it without it.

A very good upgrade on his part! He got a game not in beta, it is playable immediately and kudos to the manager of your Best Buy!

+Vanguard is failing hard, just as predicted!+

Oh god come on. I was a hater too and flamed the forum all about VG sucks and such. Play it now and you will be disappointed how good it actually became. And if you cant accept that, then flame your favorite game, the LOTRO forums.

In many respects, we are on the same page, Aphex26.  Vanguard's release was atrocious; I bought a new computer to play Vanguard on and it performed terribly.  Today, I am on Ultra High detail and Highest Quality settings.

If I resubscribed and the game did not improve, BELIEVE ME you would know about it! LOL.

EDIT:  Btw, I NEVER shop at Best Buy.  I ironically had a similar problem with Vanguard!  I purchased the early release, and I lost my receipt for the copy.  I obviously brought the box to the store (mine and my brother's, whose receipt I had).  Well, they refused to provide me a copy of the game, although I had the early release box!  I was so frustrated!  I refuse to shop at Best Buy; I over-payed for Command and Conquer 3 because of this.  I will drive out of my way to avoid shopping at Best Buy for everything. LOL.

It has nothing with being a "hater" it has everything to do with being right! I predicted this game would have a really low subscriber number, for exactly the reasons it has earned such a bad reputation, and Brad's assertion that 500k will someday play this game is beyond ludicriss.

Morale of the story:  People who want to play games like Hello Kitty or that other one with the cartoon graphics, shouldnt be buying Vanguard .

I only quit my account of VSoH on 5/8 and it still sucks....your right they have made SOME MINOR improvements.  I am the first one to say how bad vanguard sucks but it is really brad mctool and his 3rd grade squad that suck, they don't have the qualifications to run a game like VSoH.  This game needs ATLEAST  6 months maybe a year to improve to be at a level where it will be able to compete with other games out now, which means in a year it will just be dust in the wind.

Aren't you so clever, we should bow in your god like presence.

    Or realistically be sick.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

The OP said the man bought Hello Kitty for his daughter. I have a daughter. We don't play the same games. If there is a moral to this story, however, it's that sometimes children have better judgment than their parents.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Everybody thinks what they want, MY opinion is: VG is getting better and better, the idea and the potencial is more than present and this game will rock.

Those 500k are a dream yes, but one thing is sure. After re-launch in the end of the year, the subs that are here, will not leave the game. Cause such an atmosphere, world and gameplay you will not find in any game in the next 5 years. probably in World of Starcraft, but no one knows, when it comes out so...VG is at the moment the top of new mmorpg generation gaming and will it be a long time, even if there are only 10k or 100kl subs.

You lost your proof of purchase and somehow best buy is at fault?  Oh my god, you have to be kidding me!

I could walk in on Monday with my receipt and get my preorder.  Using your logic I could then walk in on Tuesday and use my box to get a second preorder which would mean someone is not getting theirs and you get a second one free (or reduced cost if it wasn't a full order).  Repeat this on every day of the week if they don't keep the box as proof, which they obviously do not.

You failed, now own up and don't blame the store for your failure to hold on to your receipt.

Sorry mate , forgot to end my message with /humor off so noone and his kid would get confused . As for children having better judgement when it comes to games I beg to differ. If they had,  WoW wouldnt have 8 million subscribers.

What makes you think anything will change with the "relaunch".  To be honest it is just hype right now from a company that is struggling and most likely will not have the measure of control over the game in two weeks that they do now.  Once that happens the gates are open to any plausable future for the game including cowboys and indians.  This won't be the last game with boats, housing and flying mounts and surely not for 5 years.

Honestly though, Sigil was in a better situation a year ago when they were making mondo promises of next generation game which fell short, and they are not in a situation now to be making promises, at least financially.

I know what you are trying to say. Few other games have:

    1. Tons of races and classes

    2. Open sandbox like feel

    3. Seemless world

    4. No instancing

    5. Huge world

The only problem is that each one of those "benefits" we're screwed up by Sigil.

    1. Tons of races and classes- Lots of choices but most look identical to each other with an occasional wolf or fox head throw in for good measure. Classes aren't balanced and in some cases broken.

    2. Open sandbox like feel- I like this alot but VG and other games before it use sandbox as a description to hide lack of content.

    3. Seemless world- I would love it if this was true but instead the world was zoned off in chunks and most of those chunks cause a longer load time than the old zone screens for EQI and EQII.

    4. No instancing - Again it sounds good except that now mobs pop so fast it is tough for a group to work thru an area before they get respawned upon.

    5. Huge world

I can have the best idea in the world but if I implement it poorly, very few people will care.

Very good points. I don't understand why designers insist on using the term "open sandbox" as a replacement for "underdeveloped" or "lacking content." It's a noble concept to want to move away from traditional, linear questlines in MMORPGs, but having a vast, "seamless" world doesn't do anyone any good unless it has some flavor and substance to it. When I want to "play in a sandbox" I pursue creative endeavors. When I'm gaming, I want to be entertained and provided with some engaging, fun escapism. If SOE is able to pull Sigil out of the weeds (which IMHO, is questionable task) and execute the things the previous poster listed in a realistic, non-half-assed way, V:SoH might be worth playing.

I have to admit, you are a pretty funny guy, maybe you should try your talent at comedy.

What new mmo generation? None of the currently implemented ideas (least for diplomacy) are new. It is all EQ1 rehashed.

You are right about the atmosphere and gameplay, I honestly hope nothing with such a boring, whack a mole, grind oriented gameplay comes out in the next 5 years, nor does anything that lacks a coherent art direction.

Basically everyone got fooled into buying another Brad sellout to SOE. Everyone knows the EQ/Brad story so I will not get into it. I was a ravid fan of Vanguard / Very Early Beta Tester etc. of Vanguard and active poster on the forums. I had extreamly high hopes that Vangaurd would be a great game.

I always stated that my number one concern when SOE took up the publishing of Vanguard was that Brad would sell out to Sony again. If anyone was on the forums way back then, you would remember all the posts about this one topic.

Brad himself said that SOE was just a publisher but he never once said that SOE would or would not own Vanguard in the future. All he would say was that Vanguard was Owned totally by Sigil.

Now here we are not even 6 months down the road and SOE is buying Vanguard because it is a pile of crap. Brad is a compete tool and his rep if forever tarnished in my mind. He is a sell-out and as SOE is only in it for the cash. I'm just so glad that I got to early Beta test the game and see the direction it was going before it even was close to being rolled out. I canceled my pre-order 2 months before it was released.

And yes Best Buy sucks too and Hello Kitty > Vanguard Saga of Crap

Is anyone else besides me looking at the picture of the box Shae posted and wondering WTF  "Roller Rescue" is supposed to be?

I would think it would be an upgrade.  He obviously can't run it on his machine or some such.  Maybe he didn't like the character models.  Maybe he really wanted a flying mount or boat combat. Maybe he couldn't win a diplomacy hand.  Who know's but his money is better spend on stuff for his daughter.  Anyways, I hear a lot of good things about Hello Kitty: Adventure Island.  Lot's of polish and a solid product.  Plus it doesn't have high system reqs.  I mean really.... we all should be playing it.

    Edit: or that Island Adventure.
