Why flame?

Did everyone play this game at one point? Because it seems as though everyone that has a forum account has flamed / said something about VSoH at some point in the past week? For all the flamers, is this game really that bad? It looks like it has a good concept( big world, flying mounts, houses, combat system) i mean i have never played it so i wouldnt know.
Thoughts on why people flame?

Ive never been one to insult an MMO. In fact ive played most of the major titles and enjoyed each one very much, but this game just SUCKS. Bottom line.

Actually its a great game....you just need the system for it.....people love to jump on the bandwagon whether its good or bad.
IMO this is the second best MMO of all time....EQ being the top.
People flame for lots of reasons. In the case of VG, I think people flame it for two reasons. Number one, it failed to meet their expectations. Whether it's FPS, content, supported playstyle or whatever. You post your feelings about how you were let down so others who might share your top priority in a game have fair warning that they won't find what they're looking for in this game.
The other is posting against the over the top spin VG got on many forums from Brad himself. Reading his posts for years left many people believing they'd been offered the moon of MMO's only to be presented with an extra large, moon shaped anal bead upon purchase. Folks who didn't like the bead post against VG. This is a much more personal flame and as such it carries more passion and vindictiveness. These posts also make the internets more interesting to read when you should really be doing something else.
Is there a game in MMORPG that isnt flamed? WoW is flamed, LORTO is flamed, EQ2 is flamed, EVE online is flamed. Hell people take time to flame even Face of Mankind (whatever that is) http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/105386 . I think it has nothing to do with the games themselves most of the time, but with some people having way too much free time on their hands. I mean personally If i dont like a game, I unistall it and dont give it a second thought. Of course a large part of the population of these forums are communists on a crusade to save the unsuspecting online gaming consumer from the evils of online gaming production companies and developers. Their ideal game is an online game that will be made by the people for the people, respecting them first as human beings and consumers and not a game made to make money for the companies.
The symptoms include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, dishonesty, lashing-out, name-calling, lying, unhealthful obsessions with people who enjoy games/life, inability to let-go, stubbornness, loose bowels, and paranoias that generally involve believing that people are employees of or affiliated with various companies and organizations.
which imo we need both to decide whether the game will suit us. But what really comes out of late is name callers, which is very bad. Pls all, dont turn this forum into something it is not and give it a bad rep. thank you

You do need 1 hella rig to play this game even on medium settings, the devs have already admitted VG is a failure, have handed the game over to SOE and are planning to "relaunch" at the end of the year... I say wait and see what happens.
Big world - Big world true, but its empty with little content and a lack of players to make it feel populated.
Flying mounts - Player controlled flying mounts are not in the game yet... LOL
Houses - Good if you like that sorta thing, just another grind if you ask me, better if I could design my house and make blue print rather than pick from a list of models.
Combat - nothing new here, select target spam hot keys.
VG offers very little to vetern MMO'ers, no story, basic combat, poor grouping, no epic battles, endless bland landscapes and piss poor gfx.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
My 1 1/2 cents: VG could be a good game just like SWG could've been a good game.. just like D&L could've been a good game. However all three are still in beta and the owners want YOU to foot the bill for it !! So if you want to try the game out then try it out but just remember (you can look for yourself) , THE GAME is STILL being developed!! meaning it's NOT done and won't be for at least a month or two (if that, it's taken SOE 4 years to figure out combat professions in SWG). Sooo... If you start grinding a profession in game it prolly won't be the same when you finish. Also (once again don't take my word for it, just look here or on the official sites support forums) the game is very buggy ATM. So even though you may have a similar setup as somebody else the game may or may NOT work very well for you.
personlly ive made the mistake of insulting a game or 2 on here and in the end felt bad because i thought they were pretty good....but mainly I dont like VG because of SOE and what Sigil has said to their fans...dont say your going to give something then make up excuses as to why you failed to deliver. But thats just my opinion.

Read Topic titel,WHY FLAME? then read my reply, this was not a question about people liking or not liking a game cause that has nothing to do with flaming. The topic was why flame and i answered that. Why do people reply with such ignorant. Try and read the things you reply to and then maybe we could have a regular discussion without me having to explain the obvious every time.

Well, given that anyone voicing a dissenting opinion of the game is clearly a flamer, liar, and/or suffering from loose bowels as proselytized by our resident Jim Jones, Healz4u, then, by default, everyone that makes a dissenting post is ignorant, selfish, and anti-social.
Now, if you start flaming in defense of the game, that's ok. When you flame people in the name of VG, it's not really flaming, because there's so much on the line that the end justifies the means...

If someone likes the game, just post that you like the game and why if you care to. As someone who doesn't like the game, it doesn't bother me if you enjoy it. I don't get these posts that are directed to other posters instead of the game itself. /shrug
I'll give you an example. If someone posts that Vanguard has a great combat system, then the issue for that thread is the combat system. I may well post in a thread like that what I don't like about that aspect of the game. By contrast, as of this post there is a thread by some new player saying he just bought the game, likes it, and wants to meet some other players. I'm not going to post something in that thread and rain on his parade.
But that's just me. I will criticise Vanguard where I think it deserves criticism. But I'm not here to bash every post by every person who likes the game, and I'm certainly not here to bash other people. Ok, I take that back. I bash Brad McQuaid quite a bit, but only in the context of his role in designing/marketing Vanguard. He may be a great guy otherwise.

People really need to learn that criticising a game is OK. It's someone's viewpoint and they're entitled to it.

You're right. If you never played it then you obviously don't know so it having "flying mounts, a big world.." means nothing.
Shoddy business practices that released a buggy, unstable product.
Developers whose mistakes permit such things to happen and yet continue to spout the same PR spin they dished out leading up to the buggy, unstable product.
The MMORPG industry finally has a chance to evolve beyond from these standards from the first generation games. Vanguard is a return to the practices that drove so many away from the genre for a decade.
The game was bad at launch, and not much better during the month after launch that I played.
I'm told its improved quite a bit...which is great, but I'm not willing to invest in a new computer to play it so have decided to stay away for now.
I weigh in with my opinions on games, good and bad, which is one of the purposes I think this forum is intended.
