I love AO and I would definitely buy and play a second version, even if it would be something like EQ2 set after the first part.....
There was only one other title so far, which I would have played as early as possible, that was Imperator and that's just for the background of the game. But Mythic dropped it for what? Another WoW Clone and even if it is Warhammer Fantasy, it's just another fantasy themed MMO....
Only other games in line which could be interesting are Stargate Worlds and Star Trek, but both are lightyears away so to say.....
Ergo: Yes, would start playing an AO2 from the first day!!
P.S. Personally I like the Shadowlands, even if they're fantasy-themed (and I also started befor them)

if they made an AO 2 that was focused back on the original story. 2 different factions on a desert planet. I would play in a sec. Redesigned graphics engine, redesigned combat. I would play in a heart beat.
I've been playing AO for 5 years now and I still love the game. It is without a doubt the best game I have ever played (and yes, I have tried many different MMO's). So yeah, I would definately play an AO 2. But I don't expect to ever actually see an AO 2 since Funcom has Age of Conan coming out soon and Cry Gaia after that.

AO is indeed the best game ever in the mmo industry.
I played Silkroad before i joined to the game, so the whole system was very confusing at first. It took me like a month to get into it and many hours were spent watching the forums and such.
But i didnt gave up. The whole theme, the difference between classes, the costumization, the static dungeons, the quests, the background story, everything was such unfamilliar and good that i simply fell in love.
If they would remake it i would scream and run to the local store like i never ran before

You Encountered the Iron Reet.
Or someone in a mech.
I too would guess for the Iron reet, becaus mechs are not that large and are not that long ingame that somebody would talk of these the way Gallant did.

I'm just jealous. I searched all day yesterday, and couldn't find the damn Iron Reet once.
The majority of people that play mmo's know AO is one of the best games ever, if not the best and last good game made today.. But I feel like the only way we can get an AO2 is if we keep posting it all over forums to every website. Maybe then funcom will take the time to listen to us. I get so sick of these game companies catering to these 10 year old kids who want cartoon elf games. Will they ever actually listen to those of us who pay taxes? KEEP POSTING WE WANT AO2 KEEP POSTING WE WANT AO2 KEEP POSTING WE WANT AO2 and just maybe sometime they will make it...... but long term prediction after being a paying customer of them for so long I will expect failure.(Reverse psychology) heh.....not so much though
I would love it, especially if the game was released as it was intended back at release.
Jobe wasn't in the shadowlands, it was in the sea south of Omni 1, there were several cities left out of the game at release. Key in a system where the zones could be much larger, better graphics and I'd be absolutely estatic over it. As long as they didn't touch the skill system (other than maybe expand it some) as it is probably the second best skill system I've ever seen (the only thing I like better is the PnP White Wolf system)
and please, oh please, do not repeat the silly alien crap, the story line was much better when it was clan vs omni, the outside 'alien' influence wasn't needed
If they release an AO2, they'd have to do more than upgrade the graphics. They'd have to address the utterly insane class imbalances first. I would like to see a completely new game with AO2. Dont put it out of the equation. I bet you 100% if Age of Conan does well and they decide to work on AO2, people will flock. I would for sure!
There has been many times where I would think "I wish that FC would make AO2 ." So much so I would think of back stories on how it could come about.
For the base question : Yes I would . It would be one of those things where I would feel just fine having to upgrade my system to play it .AO is just that pricless to me
What people have said: I agree with the person that said that they would have to change some things.
I would hope the they would not be so restrictive on items (fixer only ,Atrox only, ect ect )
Maybe add some new races ,some a little less humanoid ones.(Alien hybrids maybe)
I argee with the people about Shadow lands for the most part .I felt It was a step back for AO.
One the main reasons this game has held a place in my mind is this game is more or less the most social friendly game ever , It would be nice if there where more nuetral clubs ,and things to that effect . (Helps set the great tone AO has/had )
Thanks for reading
P.S. Hopfully Gridstream would wonder over to AO2 also.
Camelot was the best instance i've ever played in an MMORPG. It introduced the concept of Player Vs. Player in a Player Vs. Environment setting. Some of the best online encounters i've had took place in that place.
AO was a game which took a giant step away from the cliche's we have now in the MMO market, yet also introduced a lot of aspects found in todays games (armour sets etc.) AO2 would be a sweet deal, especially if done in the format AoC is taking (20 solo levels and then enter the real gameworld).
In response to OP, I have not read the other posts.
FunCom are far too creative to just remake their old game in order to pull subscribers. I think they are the type of company who realise that they need to make a game that is fun to make as well as one that attracts subs because of a name. So they are making Age of Conan instead, and it is my bet that it will be a hugely popular game. I think they are making it so that it appeals to a broad base of players, and also the real-time combat and the graphics will blow people away.
Honestly, if AO came out with a new client and called itself AO2 I would get into it again. As it is, I simply can't get myself to play a game that is this dated and established from the start again. Unfortunately, they're working on AoC which I'm not interested in at all, and Tabula Rasa is most likely going to fill any need that AO2 would have before they could start something like that up.

So, they are too creative to make a game, say like a old genre like Conan, and use a known name ... like say Anarchy Online to get subs?
Sorry you contradict yourself a bit there.
AoC won't be hugely popular for one simple fact, DX10... requires Vista.

Noob, you can play AoC on windows xp on dx9 or xbox 360. So 99% of people will playing without dx10.

fun com have mentioned the fact that they have made thier own game engine for aoc, which means that they can use it to make future mmo's. So after aoc they'll start making a new mmo (maybe they started now) and it will use same engine/graphics as aoc (which means dx10 compatible) and it could be anarchy online 2.
AO was my first mmo and its always been my favorite. Id play AO2 in a second as long as they didnt introduce something stupid again like they did with SL
Was just wondering if Funcom decided to retire AO1 and come out with a graphically updated Anarchy Online with a whole new engine would you play it? Now I'm not talking about going the route Sony did with EQ2 and basically changing everything in the game to make it something totally foreign to it's fanbase. Just upgrading it to todays standards and possibly throwing in a few tweaks here and there. I personally would run to the store to purchase it! And if they went the route of LOTR and offered a lifetime subscription I would do it happily. I still miss playing AO but like so many others I just can't get past the graphics after being spoiled in other games. I still tell people about the time I was in Omni and went into a restrrom during a mission and found a body stuffed into the toilet. That was just an awsome touch. Also while exploring I saw this huge mechanical thing walking down the road once and I just sat there at my screen totally enthralled by it. I only saw it once and every time I went to that area I hoped to spot it again but never did. I also use to just sit at my computer and watch the electrical storms. I miss that. The game was for me at least one of the best games of it's time. At any rate like I said I was just wondering and if enough people said yes maybe an employee at Funcom would see it and they would do it.
OMG don't make me drool! Anarchy is like my All time favorite MMORPG. It was also my first onlne game. Back in 01. I would so play Anarchy 2 if Funcom did a gragpics update in it makign it upto date witheverything of today.
Don't hold your breath for AO2. Funcom is working on AOC now and their next MMO will be based on the Dreamfall universe. It's called 'The Secret World'. Ragnar Tornquist talks about it here: ragnartornquist.com/
Never say never. The guys that are funding Funcom actually did have some negotiations with a danish company to produce an MMO in the future. The game was to be a sci-fi based game. I do belive the negotiation stranded though, as the timing was not right, but the interest was there, and might be in the future as well.
I'd love to see AO2. I still login to my froob account now and then. The music and character development is still better than most other MMOs, which says alot considering the game is 6 years old.
Ahh the old AO... As great as an AO 2 would be (i would surely buy it) i do not think it could fill the spot of the original. That first time going through the backyard and just wandering in there getting some levels only to work out toward Omni! I still remember stepping out of the backyard for the first time and looking around with this "sweeeet" thought running through my mind as i looked up at the tall buildings surrounding me. What a rush... then venturing out into Omni Forest and walking the Longest road just in awe over the scenery. Of course there's always that first encounter with a roller rat "who didn't jump the first time you heard that squeal of theirs? lol" MAN i wanna play AO again. Sadly didn't they say they will not make a second? It was also the only game i can remember NOT turning the sound off for.. that stuff out puts you in a trance.. great game!
Always getting nostalgic when i think of AO - now and then i do create a free account, and run out to the SW pipes and other camps - was always loaded with people, so was 20k and Newland
