Going back to 2D graphics today in the year of 2007 feels like going back to the age of Pacman in my most humble opinion.

Don't mind me, I've just been dying to use this picture. Somehow, it fits the topic of UO's new graphics, though.

Yeah, it still looks horrendous. Having said that, it still had the best PvP of any MMO and the best player advancement next to old school swg - before EA tainted it.

The graphics were fine with the old rules.  The low system reqs were a great addition to the PvP environment.  My old computer could handle a crowded bank with no lag.  I wonder how system heavy this 'update' will be.

I think that this is great news for the community that still plays Ultima Online. Having played the entire Ultima single player game series and some of the Online version I have a deep regard for the indepth world of Ultima and will always see it as a foundational corner stone of both the online and the off line digital roleplaying communities. Looks good on ya Ultima! Keep up the good work.

Unfortunatly there are to many roads to adventure these days and I just cant afford (money or timewise) to walk all of them (anymore).

I agree, but the only thing "3D" with the Infinity Engine was the spell effects. The new UO graphics look a little bit better. (Don't get me wrong through, BG and IWD still own)

It's a shame we've been blinded from good gameplay just because of some flashy graphics that we've gotten so used to nowadays. I personally can't see myself getting back into UO for the simple fact that there are so many beautiful looking games out there.

WoW, Ultima looks alot better now since I last played it like back in 2004, might try it out again if I get bored of WoW :P

I actually enjoy the old 2D graphics of UO. Even the most gorgeous 3D rendering gets tiring after a while, and I tend to get a headache staring at the 3D simulation for too many hours on end. I can play UO for hours upon hours and not feel that way.

I'm really looking forward to the new engine, if only because it will give a new look to a game I've played off and on for almost 10 years now.

what up with the armor on the PC's in all those screenshots?  I thought the only piece of gear a person could wear was a black robe?

I think revamping the outdated graphics of UO is a good thing, tho that being said being an old fan of UO and after playing it for 4 years i left it what seems to be age ago to play Everquest. I tried to get back into it last year and i am not really sure graphism what was caused me to not stay after a week or so of trying it again, it was just old and i played it too much already, i guess a lot of people maybe myself included eventually will try this new upgraded UO but will get bored fast after the first week, just my guess tho

Looks fantastic. Although it's difficult to tell with just screenshots, it looks as though they've kept the old UO charm whilst 'prettyfying' the game immensley. Whether the interface is complete pap is another thing all together.

Why the hek do the human characters wear the same exact armor?

So, are there any old, old school-style servers still? I don't want any goddamn bullshit in my UO. Gimme a Corp Por and a Lich Lord to farm and I'm happy.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

I'm not sure, but probably because they're early beta/late alpha screenshots.

I stop playing UO about 4 years ago because of the graphics, and i am still looking for a game like it.

UO was and still is (imo) the best mmorpg ever, but they still have a very long way to go to improve their graphics. those new screenshots are a nice first step. I wish they do their home work and then, i may go back to UO again.

I whole-heartedly agree.  I can definitely do without the elves, samurai, draco-ostrich mounts, and all the other nonsense that evolved from the original version on this game, including the trammel/feluccia split.  If any old school servers will be running under the improved graphics, i just might have to give it another go.

Elves, man? There's effing Elves? How effing stupid can you effing get?!

Geez. I wish the effing morons who are in charge of the development of this game would just...effing...die.
