No you will not need the original guild wars..

and seriously.. its not even worth going out and paying 50$ for.. the company should just put it as free, and have it able to just download it from their website, as well as allowing for people to create accounts without having to have CD-Keys..

Seriously your better off going to a good monthly fee'd game, like WoW, DAoC, EQ, EQ II, or LOTRO.. you'll have more fun.

ok, maybe help from another source lol..

Is there any advantage/disadvantage of having nightfall but not the others?

    Same old question again.

First off Nightfall is like the other two chapters completely stand-alone.

As far as advantages/disadvantages go you will obviously not be able to visit the continents of the two other games. Also you won't have access to a number of skills which can only be found in the other campaigns. If you are planning to get far into PvP then this will possibly be your worst disadvantage but other than that not game-breaking. Of course you will have access to the 6 core classes which are available in every chapter as well as the two Nightfall classes so there's no disadvantage here.

On the bright side Nightfall has the best PvE campaign out of the three (in my opinion) as well as the hero system. (customizable NPC party members)

So no there's nothing wrong with only getting Nightfall for now. It's actually a good idea since there's always the chance that you may not like what you get.

I agree, I would like a little more feedback from someone that is not as negatively bias, Additionally I would like to know more about the PvE as I am not a huge PvP gamer.

    Some things about PvE:

    First off:
If by PvE you mean grinding mobs to hit the next level you won't like Guild Wars since the game simply doesn't have that (which is a good thing for me).Even without grinding however the PvE part is quite huge and assuming that you don't play 24/7 you'll probably need some time to finish it.

Instead PvE is more comparable with playing games like Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights with friends. Instead of farming monsters in the field you will get most of your exp from quests and missions instead.  Quests are pretty basic but they are very numerous and compared to most other  MMoRPGs pretty variable. I particulary liked the nicely-told stories and scripted events that would take place during many of the bigger quests while in some other games I played you only get a small text about why you are supposed to kill 10 rats. While most of the time you'll be asked to go and find something or someone or simply to go to a certain place the story-telling made the quests much more interesting. You will of course kill many monsters on your way but they are more like obstacles that you have to overcome (More on that later).

The missions are pretty much main quests which guide you through the story-line. These are great since they are essentially large quests like for instance storming a stronghold. They also have cut-scenes and voice overs which is pretty impressive for an MMoRPG in my opinion. They really add to the game's atmosphere in a way you could normally only have in a singleplayer game.

However, the main storyline is strictly linear which might turn off some who expect more freedom. The cinematic presentation is without competition in MMoRPGs though. At least up to this day.

The monsters are also different from normal MMoRPGs. Every mob out there is aggro (except for the ones in the tutorial) and most of the time they will attack in groups. Sometimes they will just try to zerg you but many monsters also have their own character class like healer or mage. These monsters are actually able to work in teams to an extent like healing each other and things like that. They aren't total brainiacs but sometimes I was surprised how quickly my party had been obliterated before I knew what was going on. Fighting these monsters however was much more fun for me than whacking brainless, walking exp as usual. PvE actually has a level of diffculty that way and you'll probably bite the dust more than a few times.

And like I said. It's not really comparable with normal MMoRPGs. If you expect anything like WoW or Everquest you'll likely be really, really disappointed. If you enjoyed playing games like Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate or Diablo 2 with friends then you can pretty much compare GW with that, only much bigger.

Well I hope this helped a bit. Even though I normally don't like PvE much I found that I got more than my money's worth just from the PvE campaign.
