With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
I said is the game worth coming back to. So obviously I love or like EQ. But how is the player base now a days. Is it a desert or is it still fun to play.

To be honest, no.
At your level, you will struggle to advance, find groups (if you ever find a group), and experience the game. Everquest is such a forced-grouping game that without others to play with, you cannot play. However, it is 1st generation.
I actually think I am leaving Everquest for good for Vanguard....

It will be hard, expect to be making your own groups, don't expect someone inviting you.
Expect to spend a lot, and I mean a lot of time, we're talking months here, you need AA's, flags etc, to catch up with the rest of the population.
You will be the only one around lvl 55 on the server on off-hours. On peak hours you might be able to find a group, it all depends.
Just know it's a lot of work, I did say "work" here .
If that doesn't discourage you at all, go ahead, just a fair warning.
And w/e you do, don't ask this question on the official Everquest boards. People won't respond fair to your question.
For your lvl, it's deserted, if anyone says it's not, they're lying.
Does that mean there's noone there? No, there's still people around your level.
Are they alone or just starting out, or mains? No, they're usually alts getting PL'd.
