I've tried the EVE trial a couple of times and have enjoyed it, although it seems like it would take a while to actually get to the good part of the game...which is what? I'm not even sure of that. I do know that I have liked it, but is it really worth my time to invest into this game so "late" in the game? What do you guys (please post constructive remarks) feel about the content in this game? Is there enough to give me something to look forward to in the game or is the end game still a bunch of clicking on waiting on skills that seemingly have no effect (not to sound harsh)?

A.) In my personal experience, the fun part of the game does not really begin untill you've got about 1 to 2 million skillpoints under your belt (a few months worth of training). This situation is probably the single biggest turnoff for newbs to the game.
B.) Mining is the best source of steady cash, but can be boring as hell. I would suggest either going for salvaging instead and/or working with mining ops, having others there with you helps a ton.
C.) Combat, in my experience, is exceptionably enjoyable. A lot of what determines your win or loss is what you bring to the battlefield, how you set up your ship to deal with its own strengths and weaknesses and the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent. It is especcially difficult in this regard, since it is a very rare case when you know what the opponent(s) will in turn have.

Hop in a corporation. There are plenty of corps looking for good players that don't mind putting you to work.
They will take care of you (ships, upgrades, advice, isk) , but you will be required to apply your efforts back to the corporation. This is fulfilling at first, but if you specialize say.... in mining, you'll be given a timecard and expected to be at work on time!
My advice: Join a corp, run missions to level III, go google Eve Mandatory Basic Skills, bide your time, and one day, you'll be able to experience some great pvp action. Always, always, always ask questions to your corpmates. If you are hauling/mining for them, make sure you get the better part of the deal. Knowledge is far more valuable than mining ore for your corp rather than yourself. Think of it as an apprenticeship.
Alot of people use the corp to springboard them into a successful rogue/pirating career. There is no other game that is as enjoyable to play solo. Just a pain to get set up by yourself. Other people enjoy helping successful corporations stay successful.
Give it a good shot, get immersed, and TRAIN YOUR LEARNING SKILLS NOW!
Admittedly, the real fun doesn't start for a little while, they want you to get weaned onto the game, there's a lot to digest.
By the way, a well trained/armed pilot with say 2 million skillpoints can easy take out someone with 10 times this amount.
Alot of it is using your sensors properly, picking your battles, and knowing your ships capability.
Everytime I have gotten podded, I have learned what not to do next time. Knowing when to engage, and when to run and hide is one of the most important part of this game.
A great noob ship is the Caracal. It's a missile boat that can do fairly well with low skills, and can become one of the most deadly missile boats in the game as you pick up more skils.
As bluntly anal as this comment is, he does have a point, even if it did happen by pure accident. EVE is not for the impatient, it is not for the person unwilling to learn a great deal of information, it is not for the person who cannot multitask, and, heaven forbid I make a politically incorrect comment, it is most definitely not for the stupid.
P.S. Anyone who applies for all of the above, please remember to pick up your coupons for a free neuter/spay operation for you and a freind.

this game is not for the impatient or the weak of heart. There are certain aspects of the game that are very appealing, others you may not think so. What I think is the appeal of eve (imo) is that its one of the only game out there that has one server for more than 35k+ people that log on at one time (sometimes going to 50k+) at one single time. Another aspect is the teamwork that you do in a corporation as you try to strive to become one of the strongest groups out there. Or backstab to move on, whatever floats your boat . Another beauty is that you dont have to grind for hours to get a level whilst not making any money. Here you train your skills and can do whatever you'd like on the side. Although some people argue otherwise saying it is a drawback, I believe that its just a matter of opinion whether you see the cup half full, or half empty.
Theres also no reason for you to continue to play the game straight, for example Ive rejoined the game a few times, paying on and off, usually summer since my schedule is too hectic otherwise and I rather enjoy working with my corporation.
P.S. Dont forget to take advantage of the 14-day free trial its there for a reason and if you decide to stay, its 44 days instead of 30 .
