I can't believe no one has mentioned Anarchy Online here yet! Sure, it's kinda dated, and the graphics aren't first-rate, but for a free game it is far from horrid.
Haven't tried it because I remember something about it only being free up to a point or something?
It was in there site that you play or free but your limited to some areas.
Currently Playing: Classic Games: Luxor, Cool Pool 2, Chicken Invaders 2, And Hang-A-Roo 2. OnLine Games: Dark Space OnLine. Looking Forward For: The Sword Of The New World: Granado Espada OnLine. Coming Soon: I'll Play Games If My RAM Is Not AnyMore 246MB.

Till next year march if i remember correctly. The game is good, fun, good content but the community is pretty much piss you off. But still good luck on trying it!
Actually you'll find a good amount of help if you choose the Omni. There community is more helpful then clan. And Anarchy Classic is Free till next year. But your quite limited without the expansions and though you can get FREE Apartments and buy furnture for them. The furnture is simply for looks You can walk right through them and can't even sit on the chairs or couchs (Assuming you find someone to get those for you that has Expansions-Usually not a prob if your in a Organization [Guild]). So Frankly many don't even bother with Decorating there apartments or even getting them Besides could us emore useless junk like morrowind XD But then again maybe i am spoiled by Elderscrolls
I have played a lot of free MMORPG's in my time. At the moment I have been playing Deicide Online. This game is pretty interesting. It needs a lot of work and the Dev's are very slow but the idea of the game is very cool. It's basically castle siege and guild vs. guild battles. If more people played this I am sure the Dev would get picked up a little more and everything could work properly. There are a few VERY dedicated players of the game that haven't stopped playing since the beta started. It is a Korean based game as well. You can go to the website: http://deicide.ongameport.com/ and check it out.
Another decent f2p mmorpg is Runescape. Sadly that is the only other free mmorpg that I ever really liked for a while. It gets really old really fast once you have beaten all of the quests and wasted all your money on pvp. Other than that pvp used to be pretty dull. It still is but there are a lot of wars between guilds. I heard that p2p on runescape was pretty good but i never thought anyone would pay for that game. surprisingly a lot of people have.
Other games to look at: KAL Online, Last Chaos, Rapelz Online, Silk Road Online, and Project Entropia.
All of those are somewhat entertaining.
I personally have not been able to find an MMORPG that has given the same experience of my first MMORPG EQ back in the day. I loved the community and the entire experience. Same with DAoC. I played that when it came out because i disagreed with the 3rd EQ expansion. I did not want to pay another $50 to continue normal game play.
If you would like to play a free mmorpg I highly recommend Scions of fate. Yes the game is very limited but its free and enjoyable. When I get tired of playing Vanguard I generally hop onto Scions of fate and play for a little bit. Also mentioned before is Maple story. I enjoyed maple story also, there both fun games.
For me it's Rappelz. One of few games that kept me there for some time.
Before 1 month i decided to take break of that game and i was trying to find some p2p MMO that i will play since i really hate that "Cash shop" based games. I took a quick look at almost every p2p game that had rating above 7.0 here ... i was highly disappointed. I actually realized that 99% games are almost same... you must kill things to become stronger, after that you must kill more things to become even stronger...
Yes i know that's on what are MMO's based... but i really wanted to see some new game like Ultima online ... But there wasn't any game that could hold me for some time, and there wasn't absolutely anything in ANY other MMO ( p2p / f2p ) that i couldn't find in Rappelz.
It's actually sad, since i was hoping that Vanguard will be that "new age" MMO. I was so wrong ...
Anyway, as i already said ... almost everything that you have in p2p games you can find in some f2p ... and that's actually really bad thing.
Well... in some games you can fish , that's different... that's it ! I wanted to be fisherman all my life !
*die evil fish*
Conclusion... after my little research i was really disappointed because currently there aren't absolutely any MMO's that could make me start paying right now ( at least i couldn't find any ).
Maybe Conan will be something different, new ... inovative... or even Fury/ Aion ... but after Vanguard i'm not expecting absolutely anything of this new games before i can try them by myself.
Yeah, F2P games seem to only be good for like a month, after that it gets real boring IMO. So far I have yet to find one to keep my interest long enough. Most of the ones I have played have bad Dev support/community involvement, too many bugs, or just not much to do.
I'm looking for a free mmo, I've looked for a quest based mmo, instead of a grind. But one of the best i could find was Flyff, it's got good graphics and from what i saw the Comunity was helpful and Nice.

Well flyff is really an hardcore grind game, if you want to have more quest based gameplay i suggest to try out perfectworld...english open beta is in june around and i started already one thread about it. Besides flyff doesnt offer really big pvp parts, just a small arena and flagged pk.
Almost every free mmorpgs are grinders and its really hard to find quest based games or at least with many quests, i guess perfectworld will offer us something which sounds quiete nice.
I've considered SpaceCowboy has a nice break from other mmo even if there some grind (depends of what level you want to reach)
KALonline is definetaly a grind-game for me, you can try Gunz : the duel its a nice break from mmorpg.
AND don't know if its true but I've eard the Philipinian version of ROSEonline was F2P (trying too download and register right now :can't say more)
And again with games its always a matter of taste : some hate cartoony games, other like (like me), some like grind game or have nothing against grind, etc...
We all have different taste, imagine a world where we all think the same ...we may be like ants
I think you should play Silkroad Online. It has more beautiful graphics than most of other ftp mmos and it has a nice subject too. Sometimes its getting annoying when youre trying to log on. (There are many botters in the game) However with this premium shit everyone pays to play. The choice is yours
im too lazy to read all the posts maybe some1 already mentioned this but i'll post it anyway. i was surfing today and found a free mmog but its still in CB but it'll go OB after this month is over. its called 'Lunia' its arcade-like online game. i haven't tried it myself yet but looks promising. heres the link: http://global.lunia.com/main.asp
Philippine Rose online is f2p with no ip block. However I get alot of disconnects (at least once or twice an hour) which kind of turns me off. Other than that it is pretty cool if you like anime.
EU Cabal online is now f2p but unfortunately it has an ip block for non-EU players.
Granado Espada was pretty good in CB and now it is in OB starting today. I cant wait to see all the new stuff!
Voyage Century is good gameplay but many bugs and IGG doesnt fix anything. So, take it as is.
Other than these most f2p games imo are boring and/or major grindfests.
I don't get your xFire banner... they haven't enabled it with LotRO yet. Unless they did it today and you have played 9 hours today? i checked yesterday and it wasnt on their list
If not mentioned already, EntropiaUniverse is free to download and play, although it is much easier to get started if you deposit a small amount of cash.

yeah i know it's not online, but with the stupidity of the group members (especially guests running off on their own setting off alarms), the mindless grinding and loot... and the ENTIRE feel of it (bar the cutscenes)

Rappelz if youre into heavy grinding

---Current MMO's Playing---
God Wars
(Waiting for Aion)
you get a basic account free, but it's enough to enjoy and learn most of the game
probably the most original game but also needs tons of patience
in short, everything in the game is built by other players and since it's all skill based, there isn't much grinding.
you can build your own place wherever you want, but you do have to look for materials first.
probably the only game that i've been coming back to after 3 years ever since beta
I review lots of indie games and MMORPGs

It is because Joymax take the 1.5Mil they make from iSRO to make kSRO great!!!!
They even cancel events and updates cause their always making kSRO better with iSRO founds.
And yet No one will do a story to expose JoyMax for this. All they care about is making money off iSRO to improve kSRO.
FF 12 is the best free MMO...
yeah i know it's not online, but with the stupidity of the group members (especially guests running off on their own setting off alarms), the mindless grinding and loot... and the ENTIRE feel of it (bar the cutscenes)
you could have fooled me
Rappelz is good but the file is huge =(.... since i only have 4gb on peak cap =P
