Any plans for a Star Trek type MMORPG ?

I figured since Star Wars has tried it, why not Star Trek ? Any rumors at all for this ? I'm so bored with what's out there now.

CoH got old real fast, SWG I played for 11 months and quit once I saw no new planets were coming with space pack, tried Eve for about 3 seconds (maybe an hr) and had problems with tutorial, Horizons was just awful although crafting was kinda neat, WoW I assume won't appeal to me since I thought Warcraft 3 was pathetic, never tried EQ so no opinions on EQ2, Warhamer looks intriguing but I won't play long if server populations are low, MEO looks like Warhammer only movie licensed games usually stink, the rest seem to small to even bother with.

No such news as to be found that I know of, even at the star trek fan sites or at any mmorpg or mmog site. There is talk among fans of Star Trek, but that is as far as it seems to have gone. There is a pretty good thread here at mmorpg.com on what ideas for a mmorpg or mmog.

I too am I Trekkie, and I have been playing EVE Online for about 2 months now.  It´s a great game.  Specially if you want to use your wit´s.  It´s not easy in the beginning, actually it starts out very slow, but when you have played for about 2 weeks you start seeing why the fans of that game love it soo much.

It´s a controversial game judging from the posts, but I think those that don´t like it don´t put in the time to get into it.  Or they like more of a no-brain-needed type of gameplay (not meant as a insult).

So my advice is that if you are looking for a game to stick with for a long time, check out EVE - Simply no comparison!

I don't know that Star Trek would be a good idea at this point. That world is even more detailed than that of the Star Wars universe.

What time period in Star trek could you put it in that would allow open ended gameplay.

I consider the fact that the dev's choose one of the most highly restrictive time periods of the Star Wars universe as one that has contributed to a general discontent in the game.

If they had chosen another time period they wouldn't have needed to create such a restrictive system on Jedi and could have done so much more. I'm thinking the Post episode 6 era would probably have been bettter where the Empire and the rebellion join forces against the outside alien invaders.

Not many poeple know much about that era, it has some detail from some EU books and overall would have allowed the players to influence the direction of their universe much more.

As it stands the players really can't affect anything in the story line, the attempt to restrict the Jedi population has to have been one of the worst ideas ever in a MMO.

To be redundant: in SWG almost ANY other time period would have been better, ESPECIALLY in the jedi situation... I respect the attempt to make being a jedi a RARE thing, but SOMEone should've realized that that's all people like about Star Wars... Trekkies enjoy being random nobodies in the universe (and even they all want to be captains unto their favorite series)... but Star Wars fans? Not jedi? Then what?

    le sigh...

For Star Trek Online place the time period just after Star: Trek Nemesis... boom... full of content... full of adventure... and plenty writers available who know that era like the back of their hands...

you COULD do an early post-Enterprise thing, but that's not the star trek most people know... and it's not as fun...

You're probably right about the Star Trek thing.
