And I'm impressed. The game is actually fun, contrary to what I've read in many many posts. I leveled my little human commando up to level 6 and had a blast doing it. I'm on the free trial right now, and might actually subscribe for a few months. The only problem that I had was that I actually started getting motion sickness believe it or not. The game is fast paced and all the sharp turns, ramping over hills and off cliffs, and blowing everything up must've gotten to me. That hasn't happened since the castel wolfenstein days....
Anywho, this game is worth checking out via the free trial.

It was brave of you to post such a positive first opinion of AA. You correctly noted that most posts are scathingly negative, making one of the three basic arguments:
1. Your avatar is a "car"...most MMO gamers have difficulty with this. They don't get the "immersive" feeling that they do in their WoW Nightelf, or their EQ2 High-elf, or their LotRO Rivendell elf...do you see a trend here?
2. The game isn't built for 6-8 hour sessions. That is a correct analysis, IMO, and I for one am glad I can login for an hour or two a night and not feel like I have to "live" in a GAME.
3. The game is buggy and was released too early. Officially, AA will be 1 year on April 13th. I agree that it has had its share of problems, from what the player base has told me. I'm like you though, having only started playing very recently, and I've had no technical problems whatsoever, save for the ones caused by my OWN stupidity.
My take on the reason for Auto Assault's slow start...
This game was never supposed to be like the other MMOG's. NCSoft's biggest blunder was trying to market it to the traditional gaming market. Put this game in the hands of a regular Joe that could care less about "Elves", "High fantasy", Captain Kirk or C3PO, and I think it could have had a more successful launch.
One bit of advice DS2...and you probably don't need me to tell you...make sure to try all three factions during your trial. Each "role" is uniquely different, and provides a totally different gaming experience. That is, a TANK plays differently if you are a Mutant, as it does if you are a Human or a BioMek.
Anywho...glad your giving AA a shot...nice to see an open mind out there that isn't influenced by the masses. That isn't to say that you're going to enjoy the game as much as I do, simply that I think it's great that you're giving it a shot.

myself however, I can't play the game.
My hands easily get stiff and.. .well.. AA sure does that to my hands.
While the game is nice and action filled,
it's still very repetetive. Sadly.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Yeah, I plan on trying several different combos to see what fits best. I like the fast paced action though. There's something to be said for running down the bad guys and seeing them splat. It's a great stress reliever after a long day in the real world
Good to finally be hearing some positive feeback from players who have finally discovered what Auto Assault is all about rather than listening to the bitter others and not giving it a go themselves.
Auto Assault is designed for fast paced bursts of intense action. Its not designed to be played for 10 hours in a row (although a lot of us veterans have and do often).
This is why you will see many posts about its repetitivness.
Its designed so you can get straight into it, do a few missions a log off having gained a level or two and maybe even aquired some better weapons and equipment.

I'm not playing any MMOs right now but AA is a fun game and NetDevil has done a pretty good job with it all things considered.
My "main" MMO is and allways will be EvE online wich i love. You usually don't play eve just for an hour or even less though.
It's gathering gags planning and mostly running roams that can go on for quite a long time.
Auto Assault i can fire up just to release some steam quick and i love how fast paced it is.
It's really a shame that there is so much nageative posts about this game just because it is not another WoW.
It deserves better then that.
