Free MMORPGs that are not boring

RZetlinRZetlin Member UncommonPosts: 134
World of Warcraft was able to keep the game interesting by offering different activities to do in the game - Killing monsters, fishing, mining, capture the flag.  It's too bad the game is not free.

The free MMORPGs that I have encountered have a major weakness that keeps me from enjoying it.

Runescape:  The graphics are horrid to look at.

Rappelz:   Great graphics and the interface is decent.  It's too bad the game is such a grindfest - there's nothing else to do than to kill monsters.

Personally I am looking for an anime-style MMORPG that offers different activities to do.

Well if you like anime style graphics try out the Phillipine Rose Online or GPotatoes Flyff. Both are f2p with item shop. Not sure about the extra activities in them though they do have crafting. In Rose you can get a cute little car to putt putt around in and in Flyff you can fly on a skateboard....

There is also another one called Seal Online that is really good but it is not in English. You can fish in it and ride in a big crab like car...Dunno if they will ever bring it out in English though.

Other non-anime style free games that are imo worth giving a try would be Voyage Century Online, Granado Espada (IAH Singapore version), and maybe 9 dragons.

Other than these, I think the f2p games currently out are pretty much grind fests.

The good news is that there are a few upcoming ones that look very good. Perfect World looks awesome! 2 moons may also be decent although I haven't been following it too closely.

What?  Free MMO that's not bad looking or isn't just a big grindfest?

There's no such thing as good free MMO. What's wrong with paying monthly fees after all?

You can play Silkroad Online. It needs some grinding like all mmos do. But graphics are higher than a normal free mmorpg. Or play Scions of Fate. I dont know so much thing about it. Just heard.

MapleStory is anime-style MMORPG, though all you do is hunting monsters... you can finish quests and even upgrade items using a scroll. i am a 76 hermit there and i really like it. but thats only me, though i really recommend it to you cause of the anime-style graphics. you should try it out, you'll like it!

Is Maple story 2d? And i found out that Scions of Fate has an anime scenario. Btw I dont have any idea about its graphics.

    Free Mmorpgs is it?

Almost all are a bit boring but then again you have to consider the fact that free mmorpgs do not haul as much money as the monthly fee based ones and hence the development phase takes a beating in speed. But free mmorpgs have lot of players and you never go out of teams and companions to play the game with.Paid mmorpgs do have a super content and their content adding is very fast but then again it somehow lacks that amount of players the free mmorpgs do.

Recently i have been playing quite a number of free mmorpgs and i have found out some of them are adding content to make the game nice and better.Rappelz is going to come up with quite a few modifications resolving lag in towns and the supports to epic4 with may be epic4 launching in and around June first week 2007.Last Chaos is adding a lot of in game content quite frequently and i must say a lot of content adding in a small map in Last Chaos is making team gaming quite a rush of adrenaline in this game.9Dragons is the one which is lacking still with content and team gaming concepts but then again 9Dragons is a good addiction with solo content till levels like raising light.

Supreme Destiny also adds content but then again this game is a bit too much grind fest at higher levels.Voyage century has a lot of content and it takes a good amount of time to explore all the contents.Voyage century offers two simultaneous developments , one is the ship and the other is your character and indeed both are a bit resource gathering grind but i think you will like it.Recent fashion show in voyage century was something quite exciting.

So , if you are looking for free mmorpgs you can have a mixed bag at your desktop. My desktop has these following games which i play in a round about fashion.

Rappelz --> For team gaming , fun and good graphics.

9Dragons --> For solo content , quests  and occasional leveling.

Voyage Century --> For exploration , resource gathering and leveling.

Last Chaos --> Personal Dungeon quests , leveling and a bit of occasional  group wars.

Looking forward to quite a few games that are free to play and can be good.2moons is delayed by a month now i guess  and  2moons being a  english version of the korean game dekaron is a grind fest which can be bit reduced if we have a number of players playing.Granada Espada , i dont know if this is  the right spelling for GE is going to go live on may 17th 2007 and a few portions of the client is up  in the official site already.I am waiting for  2moons and  GE , you can well try the City Of Heroes trial , its worth a ton for 14 days.

This is is it i guess , if you are getting bored with your mmorpg you can try these ways and get the grind a little kick away from you.

Free mmorpgs and paid mmorpgs are very different and if you want to taste the difference play any trial and i guess you will know , why they are paid games.

Make up your mind, and you'll never whine or repent about gaming hours anymore, then have a go at every Game. Open up the Internet, join in all the Mmorpgs you can. Go make the Guild. But never, never let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible. "

Yes, Maple story is 2D. But the graphics are very close to 3D. The world is full of new players so its very laggy and crowded.

Last Chaos:  Looks interesting, similar to Rappelz.  But the character customization looks limiting.  (Only a specific gender for a race)

Granada Espada:  Looks promising with the three party.  But I heard the North American release will require a fee to play.

I may give Flyff a try because of it's anime style and the community looks very active.  Plus there are seem to be a lot customize items.

i played KnightOnline for a year as a free game then they made the game pay 2 connect and i paid for a while whatever it had a good pvp system that makes u have fun time.. but there are too many cheaters and devs couldnt or didnt solve these problems so i quit and started to play Silkroad, it has too many cheaters again and i left it too. so i dont recommend these games to u..

after all i now have a bad opinion about free games but i m waiting to try GE, at 17.5.2007 i ll try its pre-open beta at least.

for me i think its about the end of the way for free gaming, i will start a p2p game prolly. it worths paying 10-15$ a month if u re wasting around 5hrs/day for gaming

    hooah!

9 dragons is actually a decent free play game. it's not the end all be all, but it's certainly worth a look at since it's free.

I gave Flyff a try and it wasn't too bad.

Within 2 hours of playing I was able to form a party and beat up monsters.

This is an improvement considering with MMORPG I have played (WoW and Rappelz) I have to go solo because I don't get any response from people to join a party.
