Rumor - TSO is just a glorified chatroom
Fact - TSO is a lot more then just that, it is a platform to meet friends and interact with them while playing a game. TSO focuses more on socialization then most games, it is by no means a chatroom - it is a game - as much as any of the other games you play.
Rumor - TSO is filled with perverts.
Fact - There are more women in TSO then men, this kind of reverses the patriarchy that's often found in online games. This means that instead of women being at the receiving end of 'perverted' comments, it's often men. Actually, this is kind of a refreshing role reversal.
Rumor - TSO should just be called Mafia Online.
Fact - There are several 'mafia's' running around TSO - they have their own roleplay. If you don't bug them, they won't bug you. Previously, they would 'red tag you' which is just 'making someone an enemy'. So many people complained that they fixed this system. It's even humerous to watch a mafia in action from a role play standpoint.
Thank you, all of you people that don't play TSO, for spreading rumors to drive more people away. I beleive I'm more qualified to tell the truths of TSO - being that I've played since beta, without even stopping to take a break from the game.

I was a long time TSO player, but the overall sameness of it got to me after awhile. I know they have added a few new things - pets, jobs,etc... Overall though, it is the same as it was at launch. Don't you ever get tired of the sameness of it? You can't build unique properties in TSO because after awhile everyone is using the same floors, wallpapers, etc..How does the mind numbing sameness of it all not get to you? I had always hope they would allow custom content, and for a long time they teased us with that, but it was never carried through. Custom content adds so much richness and life to a game (especially when the entire game world is based upon user content, like Second Life). I cannot imagine still playing TSO after over a year with the exact same stuff.

First off, it's very refreshing to see someone on this forum who's played the game for more then five minues
Although, I admit it, I do not play as much as I used to, that is mostly because of time constraints, if I had the choice, I'd be there every day. I am always finding new ways to amuse myself with TSO. I got involved in the official message board community at sims.stratics.com - this has helped me meet a lot of new people that tend to make the game interesting.
I'll say it again, the biggest asset and flaw in the game is that you have to depend on other people for you fun, it is not provided by EA or Maxis. So I try to look out for new RP type lots. Recently I engaged in a pirate battle at a lot in Interhogan. Aye aye matey! There is a wonderful and thriving Star Trek community in Calvin's Creek - I'm not the sci fi type, but I had fun learning all about star trek as all of the trekkies tried to explain the show to sci fi stupid me. (beleive it or not, before they talked to me, I thought star wars and star trek were the same thing. You're allowed to point and laugh at me about this ) In Dan's Grove there's a lovely community called the Garage Gang - they all hang out a place called Gracie's Garage (it's in the store's category) - it's a ton of fun - these are some really cool people! I got involved in an internet radio, www.utopiaskye.com - where I broadcast live from TSO. This helps keep things interesting for me
I play the game beyond the boundaries maxis gives us - I make bets with my friends on who wins a pool game, I bet on the coin toss, I spell things with my pee, and as crazy as you might think I am, I have fun, so I must be doing something right.
Wow, Emma, nice post. It *is* good to see some positive people in here, (:.
"Don't you ever get tired of the sameness of it?"
Nope, not at all, because we are constantly trying out new things, . As Emma said, EA/Maxis doesn't really provide the entertainment for us, we have to make our own, mostly. So, we do. There are many creative sims out there, and you can be one too. Heck, Emma has fun making lakes out of her pee, I have fun trapping people, and so far this has kept us going. We're always looking for new people, and newbies to help out.
Anyways, it's nice to see some positive posters. (:

Have to agree with Kami and Emma here. I'm not going to bore you with a paragraph (I'm tired, leave me alone!), I'm just gonna list some of the creative things I've done:
-Cheesism: a large group of us created a religion called cheesism. We combined outfits from the costume chests with cheese hats, built buildings in the shape of cheese, wrote a creed, tons of stuff. The best were our "Cheese Raids" where we would all arrive at some poor, clueless person's lot, put on cheesism costumes, and shout "ALL HAIL THE CHEESE!" Then, without another word, we'd leave. It was awesome!
-Invading Star Trek: I joined a Star Trek roleplaying community and have created a character from the Farscape universe to roleplay. It's twisting the universes of the two shows a bit, but it works and it's fun.
I need to go eat now...but rest assured, there's plenty more things I've done that were amazingly fun!!
I would really like to try out the game. Is there a trial version of it or do I have to buy it to play?
Hmm.. it seems know theres about 4 people posting positive(including me!) I think we all just needed someone to start posting for this game for the rest of us to start.
BTW, i play in AV EJ and TC if anyone wants to know!
I'm in JP, IH, and CC....hmm, too bad our cities don't match up. Maybe I'll go check out AV again sometime, though.
ok, then let there be 5 of us posting positive instead of 4.
I am probably a rarity, I play everquest, dark age of camelot, and I also have a TSO account. I enjoy all 3 very much. Its not right that people that love fantasy or pull-kill gaming systems such as everquest and dark age of camelot slam around on the sims online they way they do. The game is very unique, its a MMORPG of the best selling the Sim's game and it has alot of great qualities. I am not sure what everyone expected from it, it stems from the concept of "wouldnt this game just rock of we could all play together?". And thats EXACTLY what you got. The sims gone MMORPG.
Perhaps everyone would quit whining about how much it sucks if there were magic weapons and dungeons to go slaughter in before heading back home and chilling out quaint (and often slightly twisted) Sim home for a evening of dinner and relaxation. UO has plenty to do, its COMPLETELY about what you can think up, and if you didnt get that from the game then you DO belong in a linear gaming system like EQ.
I enjoy them all, for completely different reasons. But, you want fun? get about 3 other people and work a robot factory for a few days, its a riot. Or do like me and start your own antique store and fashion clothing emporium. Money isnt hard to come by in TSO, you can make a lucrative living by just doing job objects here and there in between your socializations. If your starring at the wallpaper so much that your comparing how many there are and who has what and how boring thats gotten then you REALLY arent exploring the game at full scope. I don't even think you have given it a good try. And actually the game has changed significantly since launch for the person that said otherwise above, the economy has the game has changed drastically since launch along with quite a few other things due to jobs, and great support for starting your own business.
As for the perv's, I wouldn't know, I have never met any in the game. I do generally stay away from the "online sim relatioships" that do seem to run rampant. I never understood the point to them, and I never could do them but thats the closest thing I have seen to perverts in the game.
As for mafia, your kidding right, your using this as a point against the game? A bunch of kids decided to make a "mafia" because they wanna be cool and thats why you don't like the game? What are they gonna do, kill ya with rude gestures?? <chuckles> When I see people in a mafia I just dont pay any mind to it, continue on with my thing and leave them to be in their little happy land. I dont see how this is any different then some of the EQ guilds who's names would indicate the guild having a evil or harmful charter.
For those of you that play, I will come back and edit this post and let you know which server my main toon Fad is on, my memory is horrible for the server names. You can come visit me, I am usually hanging around my shop talking to the hotdog cart guy cause no one ever comes to buy anything since I have only given out 2 balloons since I started :P
