I got an email from a trusted source that Brad may be breaking his silence at his official website soon.

Perhaps it will shed some light on why VG had such a rocky start.

Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!

I doubt Brad will say mismanagement of funds and staffing  was the downfall of VG. He's never said it before this so I doubt he would change his tune now. I would personally rather hear why he didn't come to work for the last year during  the rocky beta and even rockier release.

I'd be interested to know if he really was absent from Sigil for the last 8 months...

Actually I'm expecting about a 20-page essay in which he blames everyone but himself...then takes the blame on himself in a token gesture.

It'll be another Bible-long post trying trying to blame everyone besides himself for the game's failure, of course.

    What failure? lol.
  • With the way he ran Sigil into the ground, why would anyone care what Brad has to say.

Honestly, the guy is better off if he just decides to STFU and lay low for a few months while all the drama cools down. There really isn't a damned thing he could say right now to placate people. What's he going to say? "Oh, gee...sorry about those 50 people who got fired. Who knew I would suck as a CEO so much?"

He should just let events play out, let the people he sold out find new jobs, let people calm down, then maybe consider talking. But right now, the worst possible thing would be another 100,000 word missive from Brad blaming everyone and everything except himself for the fact that he's no longer at his own company, and half his workforce is now out of a job.

Whose to say that this wasnt a plan from the beginning or somewhere in between?  Big corporations suck and little ones swallow so just maybe in all this conspiracy brad planned that he would let sigil be bought and soe would then give him a paycheck.  Think about it if the rumors are true he has been awol for a bit almost like he knew it was coming.

If the other report is correct and he has been employed by SOE as a consultant on VSoH (otherwise known as Vanguard:Stinking ordure Heap) he won't be saying anything of substance, now or in the future.  Whilst they may have an axe to grind, I'd accept an account of those who no longer have a vested self-interest (with appropriate allowance) over him.  Come to think of it, I'd take advice on complex issues in Global Politics from a Sesame Street character before I'd believe anything he said ...

My guess would be a bad initial concept backed by incompetent management (themanthemantheman isn't The Man) and backed by poor VC management (miker$of and others) during the design phase.

The project lacked sufficient features to be brought to market, but the capital ran out and the investors started wanting a return. (After 5 years I don't blame them as that is getting a little long.)

The entire project looked rushed as hell when I saw it on the first day live and still did after the first month (when I happily canceled). I could see where it was headed as it was a train already off the rails.

I could go on about the fundamental design flaws in the project but it'd be beating a dead horse (and which SOE will change as they're easy enough to implement). Other recent games that have gone down the exact same path: EQ2 (still sucks IMO, but others seem to like it), VG, SWG, and DDO are the recent games that suffered from bad design philosophy.

This is a hint: If you're doing this to your users during design phase   ,,I,,   then something is very, very wrong and you need to put DOWN the meds and think this through.

In every one of these games the developers were telling us ahead of time: "Screw you pleebes! We're uber! You suck! You play our way or the highway! I'm so uber that I'm tres chic of tres chic babeeeee! I'm tooo sexxah for my game!"

In every case, they have been wrong. This is no big surprise. In fact, ask any gamer with more than a couple of years of experience and they'll tell you the same thing.

Who has been right? Like it or not WOW. (No, I haven't played it. No, I won't. I can't deal with the cartoony graphics.) They gave people what they wanted. They made the game fun. They had lots of people playing (and I guess still do).

WOW's way was certainly not the only way. There are many others and they're pretty easy to hash out. You just have to make a better carrot if you're gonna wield a bigger stick.

Anyhow, that's my short thoughts on the subject.

Of course he knew it was coming. It doesn't take Nostradamus to read the writing on the wall that was VG. Your post makes it seem like he was somehow really clever in laying low while the shit hit the fan, but I read his actions as being a giant mangina on fake PMS for months.

What is it with devs who get the 'game god' mantle bestowed on them choking like a toothless bitch on a fatty steak? I think Valhalla is full at this point so can we please stop annointing these tools?

Well, I wouldve expected something by now if he was going to post. I guess my info was wrong or he changed his mind. (maybe he's still writing..you know what his post are like.. ) sorry I didnt mean to mislead or get anyones hopes up.

...from looking at that site though..he has some nice toys.

I think Brad cashed in big on one of the biggest scams of the millennium.  He's still laughing all the way to the bank.  If he pulls out of the crash dive and starts another game company to work on another 30 million project then he becomes immortal.  A supreme commander for us poor hardworking folk.  Think he has to show up anywhere for anything anymore?  That's the job I want.

If I was him, I'd use this time to try out WoW and try to determine it's successful elements.  You know,  just in case someone wants to give me another 30 million I have a head start.

I also would have expected a statement from someone who likes to drone on and on with such tediously long posts.

Perhaps one of the conditions SOE placed on him was no public statements for first few weeks?

As for the toys, well now we know what he was doing when he wasn't, you know - working on his game.

Brad is a coward through and through! He didnt even show up at the end! I guess he has nothing to say to justify his lack of leadership and mismanagement. I dont care what whiney speech he would have to give now behind his safe desk anyways!

I wonder if SOE told him to go home and crawl in a hole and not post anything at all till all this blew over. Either way he was either as you said a coward or he was so worthless to the project that they deemed that he didn't need to be there. Either way, it definitely makes one wonder who made EQI good?

    Pretty much guessed it.

Getting one title with millions of subscribers is a hard thing to do; but,

To have many MMO's bringing in 20k to 400k subscribers each is much easier.

And then to boot, provide one subscription pass at two times the cost of a normal subscription, for access to all of the titles.

Essentially SOE is becoming an Online MMO Publisher.

Errr... off-topic, so, ah... like, got it:

So as you can see SOE is becoming an Online MMO Publisher from gaining an additional 100k subscribers (just a guesstimate)  and The Vision away from Brad.  The Vision will most likely end up being a wall mounted plaque for Mr. Smedly ("Ha! The Vision is Mine Now!").  As for Brad posting or making an announcement... He didn't give one to his loyal employees, so I very well doubt that one will be provide to the general public.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

If the f13 article is true (i have no reason to doubt it either) then Bard should hang his head in shame..these are peoples livelihood he's messing round with, forget us for a moment but people just turfed out at dinnertime is a shocking way to treat anyone.

He should be hanging his head in shame right this moment..though i somehow doubt he will be.

And yes i agree i think this is whats happening to SOE..but is it a bad thing?

Personally i think not tbh better to have choice than nothing at all

What exactly could Brad say that would be worth a damn?

Sure he could apologize but I'm not sure what the point would be.  I'd rather he withhold an apology or explanation to the players (or perspective players) and have him actually apologize to his ex-employees for his management issues and abandoning them.  Leaving even the most talented Dev team alone without direction is not the way to do things obviously.

Anyhow, if he does post something I hope it's not the wall of text babble he's posted in the past trying to "explain" things and pass the buck.

    /sigh

Oh dont get wrong i agree but look at the saturated MMO market its getting insane with the games out or coming out atm, alot will fall through the gaps and why not have a publisher like SOE there to pick them up?

We all dont want to be left playing WOW do we? (and no im not having a go at that game either),sometimes choice wether good or bad is needed.
