Spreading anime taste

saydursaydur Member UncommonPosts: 185
So, I'm sure msot of us here have watched some form of anime or another, whether it was renting Akira fifteen years ago, Dragon Ball Z when it was just some "weird cartoon", or endless reruns of Inuyasha on Cartoon Network.  There's a lot out there, for better or worse.

What sort of non-network anime do you guys watch?  By non-network, I mean anime that isn't/wasn't on cable TV, like Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Inuyasha, Dragon Ball Z, or Pokemon.

Initial D (ftw, it's prolly my fav)

Those are great and still running (or in the middle of fan subbing):

Bleach,  Prince of Tennis, Jigoku Shoujo, Yakitate Japan, HolicXXX, Tsubasa Chronicles, Black Jack, Fullmetal Alchemist, Akagi, Kiba

Those ended but are great anyway: (some will maybe start again)

Beck, Hunter x Hunter, Hikaru no Go, Tsukihime, GunGrave, Shin Hokuto no Ken

and lots more, if only i could remember...

May as well throw in some of my personal choices-

Older, complete series- Saber Marionette (J, J to X, Again, and R, all of them.), Azumanga Daioh, Ashita no Joe, Lupin III (A handful of episodes from one season on late night CN, but I'll bend that rule because I'm talking about the entire series and the full length movies to boot.), Hellsing

Current- Rozen Maiden.  Okay, I don't get fanboyish over much anime, most of it is take or leave.  Rozen Maiden is an exception.  It is an undeniably awesome series that's leaving me desperately wanting more and more.

Rozen Maiden is great but, the OP said non-network

Well, I was referring mostly to those of us stuck outside Japan.

I mean...  in Japan, just about all of it goes through the TV rotation, even if it's at a 2 am timeslot.  That, and we're currently in a lull, waiting on third season, and more manga.  Phase 37 finally came out though.

One that I always thought was a good anime is Case Closed (Detective Conan) I know its kinda kiddy looking but I like the mystery aspect of things and the logic of solving each murder.

If you want a real crazy anime watch Elfen Lied.  That one is extremely dramatic with the balance of evil and innocense.

Lastly, Gilgamesh is one that will mess with your mind.  The story builds you up for 25 episodes until the cataclismic ending.

Highly recommend all three of these (although Case Closed has about 400+ episodes, hey there's a reason it is the most successful anime along with 11 movies)

Dragonball Z Budokai games are about the extent of my anime viewing...man those are some good fighting games.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

So far, I've watched Bleach, Ouran High School Host Club, and Tsubasa.  Out of all those, Ouran is my favorite with Tsubasa, a close second.  I absolutely love CLAMP's stories!

Nah, Case Closed wasn't "kiddy". It was just that the main character was transformed into a kid. Case Closed was REALLY GOOD in my opinion. Inital D was good yet I can't remember a lot of it. Monster Rancher. It was on a network, but it never really gone big.

I agree that Case Closed isn't kiddy, just most of my friends that are anime fans say that about the show.  In fact that show can get pretty graphic with the murders.  I love trying to spot those few very subtle clues given to you to deduce how the murderer is.  And the music is addictive when Conan is chasing down the bad guys.  The movies and episodes with Phantam Thief are intense.

When I was younger, then I am now, I watched some animes like Vampire Hunter D, ....not sure of the name but some messed up pet store that sells unique pets that usually ends up killing the buyers.... , and a lot of others that I really only remember bits and pieces of it but no names. Now I really can't stand watching an anime except for a few like the ninja scroll movie.
