2) Hitchhikers Guild To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams ( I have never laughed more while reading, my wife thought I was crazy and that was reading it for the second time) (btw...it is a trilogy of 4 books)
5 books, the fifth book in the 'increasingly innacurately named trilogy' is called "Mostly Harmless" and it rounds everything off quite nicely, and is a must read for H2G2 fans (although Douglas Adams was working on a 6th book in the trilogy before he died.
Actually anything written by Douglas Adams has pretty much that exact level of humour, he was a genius, and how he could describe high level physics, and disguise it so much that no one recognised it as high level physics and then poke fun of it in a way that made everybody laugh was utterly brilliant.
Thanks for the tip...I will definately search it out as I have just finished another Modesitt series and need a new book.
How I can get soo much enjoyment from a manic depressive robot is completely beyond me, but damn I love Marvin.
Off to the book store I go...

The Quran is a good fiction read. Has lots of evil characters and monsters you can use for ideas when building a fantasy campaign. Kind of resembles the Diablo universe.
I am currently reading Napoleon's Pyramids by William Dietrich. It is about an American in France who was an assistant to Ben Franklin, but after Franklin's Death and the French Revolution he gets caught up in a sort of mystery involving an antique medallion rumored to come from Ancient Egypt and to have been owned by Cleopatra and Alexander the Great before her. The up-and-coming General Napoleon also takes interest in the American and the mystery and invites him along on his conquest and "liberation" of Egypt.
So far the writing is pretty good and the writer doesn't shy away from gore and strong language like some writers are apt to do. The plot caught my interest and I bought it on a whim. However I think it may only be in Hardback currently, though it is worth the price in my opinion.
Stephen Kings Dark Tower Series, These books are awesome! Dark and twisted! Burger Loser, I forget who wrote it, but it's funny with great characters. 100 Years of Solitude, possibly the best book ever written.
I'm actually in the middle of the Dark Tower series myself, halfway through book six. If you want a good timesink this is definately a series to pick up. And while we're on the topic of Stephen King, you really can't go wrong with any of his books. But if you read anything of his read The Stand, its an amazing book.
There are some other good recommendations here, Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time (as is Ender's Shadow).
If you like fantasy novels the original Dragonlance trilogy is great (think its Chronicles), written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
Velocity by Dean Koontz is a great thriller I read a few months back.

Yeah theres this other book too called The Bible (yeah the name is kinda generic, cant think of the authors name at the moment), kinda follows those same guidelines.
I am glad the OP brought this up.. I have been in a rut for my reading material lately. Thanks!
I forgot to add the novel "Contact" by Carl Sagan. It is truely an eloquent story that bridges the gap between logic, science, faith, and religous theology.
I'd check your city/county library before buying. Unless your parents are rich and you want to build a library. It can get expensive because you wont want to stop reading once you get into a series.
Dragonlance was a very good series of books, and there are alot of em. The animated dragonlance movie is coming out this year! Too bad it's not live action though
Bill o'Rielly has written some fiction. something along the lines of forty year old pimps saying things like "put down that glass dick and start sucking mine." Then fifteen year old girl says "ok." sound interesting?

Forgotten Realms books (bunch of fantasy books). I started off reading the Avatar series.
R. A. Salvatore's books. Just about any. I recomend Spearwielders Tale and the Drizzt series.
Dragonlance series (Raistlin and Caramon). Best. Series. Ever.
Meh screw it. Read the books on this page http://ww2.wizards.com/books/Wizards/Guides/default.aspx?doc (you asked)
