Moving to 56k.. What MMO would work best?

ExavusExavus Member Posts: 200
I want to find another MMO to put my time into. I'm tired of WoW.

I've played AO/DAOC/EQ1/EQ2/SWG/LOTR:O/AC/FFXI

There might be one or two in there I never mentioned. Anyways.. I'm a 4 year EQ vet but I was slightly thinking of playing either EQ1 or EQ2. Whatever will run well on Dial-up. Patches aren't an issue because I have friends who will DL them for me and I'll get a flash drive.

Any suggestions?

Current MMO: WoW/GW2

EQ1 I know runs fine on it.  Cannot attest to the others, good luck!

Flyff works well enough on 56k; My brother and I can both play it at the same time on a 45k connection. As compared to playing it on cable internet, pve isn't all that different since the game seems to give client priority, theres just a small delay when using skills or items. You can PvP, but not very well; You won't be able to beat players with good connections without having a class advantage over them, and even then its not assured since it seems particularly prone to bouts of lag in PvP.

Other than that, you could try phantasy star universe; It would work, but it can get wonky playing with other people, since its based so much on the client, you can melee monsters that look right next to you on the client, but to the server and everyone else are far away, so it looks like your slashing thin air and doing damage to a monster far away. However i will say that PSU isn't a very good game either way, regardless of your connection, but its really your only other option.

I feel bad for you bro. Game that work decently. Asherons Call, Runescape,UO,WOW on low pop server(minus raiding). Those are my suggestions.

EQ1 definatly, that game got optimized to the nth level to run well on dial-up.

Final Fantasy XI is designed to run at 56k regardless of connection type.

Very true, but the update after he first installs will be an overnight affair. If he's OK with that, then no problem. I don't know of anyway to get FFXI updates except through the online automatic upgrade; I don't think you can download the updates on to a separate file on a flash drive (or DVD burn).

However, if he doesn't have it installed already, he can have a friend copy their install folder onto a disk and then transfer to his.

I've played AO, DAOC, SWG, Shadowbane and WoW all on dial-up.  AO and DAOC work fine on dial-up.  WoW was fine except in cities or in large battles.  I had terrible lag problems in SWG and Shadowbane.  I also played EQ1 and UO for a month each, and don't remeber having any problems with either of them on dial-up.

Not surprisingly, the older games seem to handle dial-up better then the newer ones.
