If you cant deal with monthly fees this genre of game really isn't for you. In other words there is no decent free mmorpg!

decent and free when it comes to mmorpg is almost impossible to put together.  You pretty much have to live with the fact that mmorpgs will be pay as you play.  I tried the free ones, and they all pretty much sucked compared to the pay ones.  There's some "ok" ones but the best free mmorpg is comparable to the least favortie pay ones.

If I were you I would either go to signle player games, free multi-player games (like CS, RTCW, etc) or just live with the fact that free mmorpgs are dieing out

You can find free UO shards, but 99% of them suck.

Ah, I, too, used to be of this persuasion.  Unfortunately, free games are by and large dieing out...and besides, if you're really a fan of MMORPG's you'll realize that if there's a game out there truly enveloping and pleasing enough to play it'll be /worth/ the cash.

Well, i can say that there are some free MMORPGs out there that are fun to play, you will not be bored with for some time. Priston Tale is an example. Some payed ones (like Fairyland) are fun for some time, then get really boring. If i had your kind of thinking (which i do) i would go buy/find some programming books, and make your own MMORPG. It might take you some time, but hey, if you want something, you gotta do it yourself.

The reason for the monthly fee is hopefully for the continuing updates, expanding the world n' all.
and I would have hoped that aswell included the use of "something" more effective to find dupers and cheaters and ban them - bug exploits and dupers eventually ruined PVP in DII LOD.

It's to keep the game alive (people/working hours/effort) and that makes it ok - for me.

LMFAO. Listen to urselves. Ur all saying the same thing as the person b4 u. (Free MMORPG's are dying out. "there are no descent free MMORPG'z) LOL*

    These are Descent Free MMORPG's:

-Ragnarok (depends which server u play on)
    -Priston Tale
    -Runescape etc.

true these games will soon enough not be free. but these at the moment these are "Decent Free MMORPG's"

But to enjoy a really Fine MMORPG u will have to pay. These games will soon enough have monthly fee's and charges like the rest.

Haven't tryed the others, but are you serious? runescape sucks, it's not decent it's a game that should have died out long ago, but kept alive because some people either don't want ot pay or can't afford the monthly fee (yes "some" might think it's fun)

LOL* it all comes down to personal oppinion man. I grew out of runescape a long time ago and i have moved onto Ragnarok which looks pretty promising. but runescape is a descent game. and if u dont like it dont play it. u dont have to complain about it man.

Yet again, I will need to explain to some people the necessity of MMORPG monthly fees:

    1. Bandwith costs - imagine 1000+ people simultaneously on one server, you know how much bandwith that takes up? Tremendous amounts. And Bandwith isn't cheap, it's expensive as hell. So that is going to cost a ton of money, and if you want a good quality game, monthly fees are a necessity.

    2. Employee fees- there are people working on this game, duh. And of course those fees add up too. How are they supposed to get fee if the company is not making any money? I mean it just isn't going to work out.

The "free" mmorpg's out there are either:

    A. In a prolonged beta, they will come out of beta eventually.

    B. It is a 2d MMORPG, or a test based MMORPG, a lot of those eat up little bandwith, and thus, with either donations or optional subscription benefits, the games can survive.

    Hey m1ni,

It seems that alot of people want to give you the third degree/lecture for just wanting a game with no fees.  I can understnd that your tired of the fees they can really add up over a year.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel!!  There is a game in beta called Guild Wars that is actually pretty nice.  I had the chance to play the E3 demo for a couple of hours and I found the game to be quite a surprise.  There is room for loads of players and it is completey free of monthly charge.

So keep your eyes on this title it sould be out soon.

The other way to get free mmorpg's is to go and fill out every beta test form you can findimage

Planeshift is free but its in alpha right now and nothing to do in it but chat. Guild Wars will be out soon and theres no monthly fee but will have to pay for any expansions. as i have stated in other post use the games list here to check all the games out to see whats free and whats your type game

Limzaroth your post is purely opinion.  For example, Runescape is a horrible game in my opinion...i would even really list it at "decent"

Okay, I never got into online games. I was stuck on a dial-up for so long. I wasn't even going to attempt it till I got a faster connection. But now that I have a 3meg connection and my debit card burning a hole in my pocket I'm all for it. But I always knew it was worth it if you liked the game. I mean hell, think of how much you spend money on Blockbuster rentals in a month. $13 or $15 a month ain't so bad....for people with jobs.

I'd just like to point out to  Limzaroth that Runescape is a decent game to you if you cant spell decent..

The best "Free" kind of MMORPG's in my opinion are the ones in Beta, Like RYL, Ryzom etc. Although you will have to pay for these eventually you can enjoy them for free at the time :)

*Currently looking for more MMORPG's to play. Any suggestions? Let me know!*

    You need to add:
    3. Hard- and Software! They requires a lot of hard- and software, which is not cheap! A complete server (with some spare parts for replacement) for EQ2 would cost with all software on them probably several hundred thousands of $$$$!

    Betatested:
AC2; Lords of Everquest; Horizons; Fung Wan Online; Wish; Saga of Ryzom.

    Played:
EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (semi retired); SWG (retired); Shadowbane (Retired); UO free shards (retired)

    Attempt to test or play:
    Darkfall; EQ2; Dark & Light.

Fees fees and fees its the only thing they talk about in wow forums. Now as far as i saw at MMORPGS game list the fee is depending on the hype...
