Burnout players

This is the funniest forum ever.  Everytime I check back there are more complaints and frustrations with WOW than any other forum out there.  I mean come on City of Heroes sucks and there aren't as many complainers and whiners in those forums.  They are all optimistic.  This game must destroy you slowly as you play it.  There are more complainers than any other game out there, so many people threatening to leave it's hiliarous!

Funny observation. I think there tends to be more negative than positive thrown around on these forums because if we were playing an MMORPG we actually enjoyed, we wouldn't bother logging on to whine about meaningless crap here. People (myself included) kind of skulk around this site like its some MMO purgatory as we wait for the next satisfying game to come along.

You've got it the wrong way around.  The game is loved by so many people, which creates a larger vocal minority of naysayers who seem upset that they're unable to enjoy it themselves, or jealous of it somehow.  They'll throw dirt at it at every opportunity. Just yesterday someone posted a fake news article trying to convince people that WoW was dying.  I am not kidding.  It's pathetic.

WoW has 8.5 million subscribers.  Burning Crusade was the fastest selling PC game, ever.  It is praised by professional reviewers and "fanboys" alike.  It has a large base of ex-EQ1 players (including myself), and many guilds such as FoH, AL etc.  Simply,, WoW is not as bad as people are trying to make it out to be.

Get over WoW's success, it's not going away.  You don't have to like the game, but get a hobby other than trying to convince us that the game we're playing isn't very good.   I've played most other MMOs, they pale in comparison (but that's just my opinion).  You're entitled to think differently, but try not to be so bitter.

Just because you got burned out (probably because it's your first MMO and you've never dealt with burnout like us veterans have before), doesn't mean the game is dying.  Burnout will happen in every single MMO out there, I guarrantee it.  There is no magical 100% perfect MMO that will keep you happy forever.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

sure as soon as WoW fanbois stop bashing every game that comes out because its a "ripoff of WoW" or its not as good as WoW. I mean god forbid someone starts a thread that positively shows a game, it has 50 wow dimwits hurdling themselves to get the first "the game sucks WoW is better because it has 3 million subscribers" post.

or the ever popular "omg why isn't WoW the top of the MMORPG chart ... its the best game out there because it has 3 million subscribers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

so spare me the fact that WoW fans are innocent victims

  • RecantRecant Member UncommonPosts: 1,586
    I see.

So I could post my list of 30 or so WoW reviews, post news articles from respected journalists, show you quotes from game industry figures praising WoW for being a good game, show you sales figures, subscription figures, awards.  But you don't care about any of that do you?   None of that matters; you want to tell me that I'm not an "innocent victim" because some other guy posted that he thought his game was great.

You ignore the facts, and substitute emotion.  This is your forum revenge, right?  Someone posted they thought WoW was better than your favourite game, or something?   Someone said; 'hey this game has 8 million subscribers isn't that just awesome?'   WoW kill your puppy?

I'm just trying to understand your bitterness.

Reason is simple, WoW being such a great game, once players begin to burn out they become frustrated that they arent enjoying the game in the manner that they used to. I myself started ranting a lot when I was about to quit the game (though not on these forums), not because WoW was a bad game, but because I was mostly frustrated that after 2+ years of very heavy gaming ive finally ran out of things to do (besides hardcore insanity inducing raiding). I pray for mmorpgs that can provide at least half the enjoyment that WoW did over the years.

I look at it this way. If the game is fun and you're satisfied are you really going to come post about it?

I find myself posting when I'm desperately searching for ways to make a game I've enjoyed fun again.
  • I loved WoW till the Burning Crusade. Now I understand that Crusade was keyword for bag of crap. They didn't do anything to help the game. They changed the way raiding was handled. The way equipment point cost was handled for stamina and failed to increase ratios to keep classes balanced. They took it through closed/open beta and still failed to realize how seriously fucked the expansion was. I just can't see them negating some of the effects of this expansion with their next one this coming year due to even developers going WoW this was stupid. It took people months to clear these instances before (Now a couple weeks per mastered raid instance). They have realized their folly and are living with it.

For you saying that people crap on WoW or whatever it is because the WoW BC was as bad as the NGE for SWG and you see how much people bitch about that. If you love the game great thats good for you, but they have changed the structure of the game and therefor isn't the game I originally played and hate blizz for it because it wasn't an expansion it was a lets cater to the dam sucky ass newbs who can't play for shit expansion. Hell, WoW was already a nerfed down version of EQ to begin with now it's Hello Kitties Island Adventure (Don't even know if that game exists but Butters likes it!)

Sounds like this is your first MMO expansion.  Because what you wrote is what I've heard from gamers for almost a decade now, before WoW was even released.   You are lamenting changes in class balance, raid sizes - comparing them on a scale to SWGs NGE.

You would not have survived 5 minutes in Everquest, if you're upset by anything Burning Crusade has changed.

But perhaps Hello Kitty Online, as you mentioned, doesn't change things around?  IF THAT'S TRUE ONLY IT MUST BE MMO IN EXISTANCE THAT DOESN'T SCREW AROUND WITH THINGS.  WELCOME TO MMORPGs!  GAME COMPANIES ARE TRYING TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOU - ONLY THE EXTRAORDINARILY VIGILANT SURVIVE.

Problem with WoW is, it became Everquest. You go through 60 levels of a game which is meant to have minimal grinding and fairly flexible class roles to a wall where the only options available were mindless hours of raiding, or the pvp grind. I did the raiding for a while, but it really felt like EQ again. You raid to get items so you can raid some more. They completely mishandled the conflict in warcraft. Should've been a PvP game with some PvE, but they turned everything into a PvE game, with the classic rep grinds and other time sinks as the cherry on top.

Yeah, I'm a burn out I guess because of the grinding and the boring pvp. I don't hate Blizzard. If nothing else they've shown the game industry how much money can be made when you create a popular mmorpg. At level 70, I got so bored tho. Even with my alts it was just not that fun because the pvp just doesn't get my heart racing. I still like the genre but I want arcade style combat. I'm hoping Age of Conan will deliver...it looks good when I check out the vids. But, I'm betting it will have a lot of bugs. That's one thing positive for Blizzard, tho people complain anyway, for a game company they have very reliable servers and much fewer bugs and exploits than some of the other games I've played. Too bad the pvp is so...unsatisfying...and sorry but I hated and still hate that cartoony look of the game...it's too Saturday morning cartoon lookin or somthing

Yeah, I didn't play EQ because it wasn't my kind of game. I played AC and UO. 2 incredibly quality games for their time, but both have run their course after about 4-5 years. Now after seeing your rant I see you're a WoW fanboy which is cool and all. Kinda sucks you have been so jaded by the limited amount of MMo's you have partaken in but please refrain from any pass-judgment until you actually play the field and play EQ, its clone, and then a blizzard clone of the prior 2 games.
