Starcraft 2 VS Diablo 3

MyrdekMyrdek Member Posts: 346
I've been wondering something since Blizzard announced their announcement :)

It's obvious that those Diablo and Starcraft are the big contenders to be next but we shouldn't forget that it could be an entirely new game that comes out.

A lot of people seem to want Starcraft 2 more than Diablo 3 to be announced and I just don't get why. I mean, the whole RTS genre has been stagnant for years, there's nothing new to be made, it's all been the same thing over and over again since Starcraft. I don't mean to sound like a Starcraft hater, in fact I love the game, I even reinstalled it last week after I heard the rumors.

The game is still has good as ever and the graphics are not yet bothersome to look at so I don't get it. Starcraft fans please enlighten me about what you expect from a Starcraft 2 game. How would it be any different from all the 50 other RTS that are flooding the market?

Well it would be different because it would be Starcraft and not any other game which in itself will sell millions of copies. I also believe  an updated graphics engine and some new maps would be all I need to buy this game :D

I rather see it more then Diablo 3 because there are alot of diablo clones out there too.

If blizard is gonna do anything its gonna be MMO, take me up on this. Whether its MMOFPS or RPG it doesn't matter, they've tasted success and want to monopolize. If they release a sci fi based mmo and its successful, it will be the first mainstream Sci Fi MMO out there.

It would pull in Sci Fi fans from all over, as well as people who are just wiating for the next MMO to come out after WoW. Blizzard has an MMO under their belt and the most successful in terms of subs.

I won't be suprised if its another game alltogether other than their current universes they have but I would be suprised if it wasnt' an MMO.

Personally I hope for Diablo III. Heaven vs Hell in an all out PvP MMO.

But honestly no matter what type of game it is. If it's Blizzard you know it's going to be good.

Currently Playing: Nothing (Looking for a new home)
Played: WoW, EQ1, EQ2, L2, RF Online, EVE, LOTRO

Wasn't the announcement supposed to be today?   It's nearly 6:00pm EST.    It's just typical for Blizzard to delay yet something this simple.  They delay everything!!!  You do realize, no matter what they announce, it probably won't be out until like 2010??  Yes they make great games, but my god they take forever to do anything!

I do agree with you about just the Starcraft name being worth millions defenestrate  :)

Even if all they did was update the graphics a bit and add some more stories it would be worth a fortune.

It's also true that there are a lot of Diablo clones out there, but that type of game is more story driven and has a more possibilities attached to it. In my opinion anyway, I might be biased since I'm a big fan of the serie :)

No Vhayne , the announcement is Saturday I think. Check the website, there at Warcraft III picture now, tomorrow they'll be at WOW. Then the new one :)

If they follow their pattern it'll be Diablo III

Warcraft, Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft. Warcraft  ....    Diablo  .....

But since they are announcing in Korea, and StarCraft is pretty much a religion over there, I'd put my bet on a SC 2 RTS...most likely with completely new innovative features...like a MMORTS, or some persistent elements to the game

If you go to Starcraft2.com you will see the site is active.  There's no active site for any Diablo related name.  May be a massive red herring, but I doubt it.

Starcraft II FTW. Out of all the RTS games out there Starcraft is the only one I frequent back to.  Starcraft is still the best RTS out there. And if II comes out it will be just as good!

They better not follow the same plan as WC3 for StarCraft...

I'm sorry, but Warcraft 3 sucked compared to WC2, and if they ruin my favorite game of all time I'll be pissed...

I'd rather have no SC2 than a bad one

    www.diablo3.hk

And for the main post i would go for Diablo 3 since i play diablo 2 since it is out and i still play a little i think it would be the best game ever ( for me ) but starcraft 2 wouldint be bad , but DIABLO 3 FTW.

I would love to see a Diablo 3.  Right now I think there is a real lack of solid single player RPG's.  It would be nice to just sit back with a couple of beers and do some fun hack n slash dungeon crawling.

But yeah, as other ppl have said, I think it'll be a Starcraft game.  If its an RTS, I personally think it will be a bad move, since there are a plethora of good RTS games on the market right now, or soon to be released.  If its an MMO, then I'll probably have to swallow my pride and give it a try when it comes out.  As long as its PvP centric, that is...

    Equal opportunity troll.

Agreed.  I can't wait regardless of what it is released

Unless they turn D3 into an MMO ( which would just be WoW  v2.0), I don't see too many options for expansion.

The game would devolve into the same level-grind, MF run entity we know as D2 now-a-days.  Have you guys played D2 recently?  It's gotten pretty horrible (I got a level 82 in about 12 hours of playtime).

Other than a new storyline, new quests, and some new names for old gear, I don't see any room for a new game.

And for those of you who will say "new character types!" and other such nonsense, tell me of an RPG that's had innovative characters in the past 4 years.

Also, to answer the original question:  It's Starcraft, baby.  There doesn't have to be much to make it a good game (so long as they don't make too many radical changes).

@zaykodroid:  One can only wish, my friend.  Unfortunately, I don't think a Starcraft MMO would be as successful as WoW, and therefore (in Blizzard's eyes), not worth it.

The RTS genre is so ridiculously played out.   WC3 had a 3D engine...and that's about it.  They didn't even bother to put sea units in the game.

I disagree with you PezDSpencer , the RPG segment of games Has evolved in the past 4 years. Not much, true, but it has. An exemple of game that impressed me by how immersive the genre got was Neverwinter Nights 2. Although plagued by bugs, it was one of the most immersive experience I've had.

And from the point of view of an hardcore single player rpg player like me, there has only been 3 games since 2005 that were worth playing. Star Wars KOTOR 2, NWN 2 and The Elder Scrolls IV. Nothing yet has been released this year and I'm truly bored :)

I tried to play Diablo 2 last month because I missed it so much but then I found out that the game is crap on an LCD monitor. Your forced to play it in window mode or else the graphics get washed up. I couldn't play it more than 2 hours before I got disgusted. Just for a small graphic update I'd be willing to pay 20$ so I can play Diablo 2 in fullscreen again :)

As for a Diablo MMO, Blizzard is the only company I have faith in to actually not ruin a game that way. Don't get me wrong, I don't like WOW but they wouldn't want to compete with themselves by making the same kind of game. I'm sure they would do their best to take a chunk out of another segment of the market. Which is good for everyone :)

I'm right about the reason I started this thread? Nobody expects anything new from Starcraft 2, only a revamp of things to keep them going another 10 years?
  • DrSmaShDrSmaSh Member UncommonPosts: 454
    I think it will be...

    StarCraft Fantasy

So they just reskin WoW a bit and voila - a new AAA game!

Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

All roads seem to point to Starcraft, but I would love to see Diablo 3.

My problem with MMOs are they feel so slow.  Not like the frenzied clickfest of the Diablo series.  I want a gorefest with tons of loot.  I want to feel like my characters are truly godlike.  I want awesome weapons with names like The Doombringer, or The Windforce.  I want to kill a bunch of demons in a short period of time.  I mean deep down isn't that what everybody wants?

If you think about it Sci-Fi isn't exactly mainstream.  Sci-fi MMOs are a very niche market.  Diablo, I feel is more universal.

And I just want to finish the story.

Actually the game had sea units. Luckily they decided to leave them out for normal play, because it simply doesn't fit the game design. How can I say that? After over 1000 matches online I can say with a great deal of confidence, that they would have to remake the whole concept of WC3 matches/skirmishes, for sea units to work properly.

RTS has a lot of clones, but I also find it to be the genre with most innovations over a course of time(but not game releases)

Please Blizzard, let it be a RTS so us competitive gamers have a new great game for us to challenge each other in.
