OK I'm all anxious to get this online gaming thing going. I'm kinda torn as to what to play for my first time out. I actually bought Star Wars Galaxies a while back but never played it yet(don't ask). I was thinking along the lines of either that one since I have it already and am a HUGE Star Wars fan. Or either Final Fantasy XI or Lineage 2. I have a buddy who is deep into Lineage right now and would be cool to hook up with him online. Of the three does anyone have any feedback for a newcomer? I have always been a big fan of RPG and hack and slash games. And I have always seemed to want to lean towards playing as evil a character as I can.LOL KOTOR spoiled me.

Although i've neveer played SW:G i hear really good things from people who have played, and besides you already bought it might as well give it a go, FFXI is either you love it or you hate it game i didn't like it costs too much money, too pricy. Lineage 2 i played in the beta, it wasn't a bad game i had fun playin it but they have got some real bad dupe and clone problems right now, don't know if they fixed it yet but from what i've read it's ugly.
But yeah i'd go with SW:G and see how you would like that considering you bought it and you most likely have your 30 day free trial so why not.
NVidia - The way it is meant to be played
ATI - The way it really plays
Lineage II: Personally i hated lineage. If i were to single out anything that they did really bad in the game, it's that it's a point and click fest for hours and hours. I would not reccomend this game at all.
Final Fantasy XI: This is a fairly solid game. Nice missions, great graphics. Although forced grouping can be discouraging. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
Star Wars Galaxies: Since you own the game i would give it a shot. Personally, i did not like it at all. But the game might have changed since the last time i played it.

I hav eseveral frineds in SWG and they said that they are already out of stuff to do so I would look for somthing with a little more content, I am not sure what realm of game you enjoy but I like Fantasy. You should get your feet wet in SWG if you own it and see if MMORPGs are for you before you spend alot of money buying and trying games.
Just a thought

First, what type of game do you want to play? High fantasy, like Everquest or Dark Age of Camelot, or modern/post modern like Anarchy Online or Star Wars Galaxy.
If you like swords, magic, horses, boats and armor, you want a high fantasy game. If you like guns, nanotechnology (modern magic), cars, planes and kevlar, you want one of the modern/postmodern games.
Most box games (i.e., you buy the software) give you a 30-day free trial. You might have to give them credit card information at registration, but some do allow you to register and play your free trial without it. So, since you have SWG, check their registration policy and go for it. A month should be plenty of time to decide whether you like it.
Another consideration in deciding on a game is if you want to fight other players (pvp) or not. Most games do offer some kind of pvp option, if only dueling, but very few games attach any real significance to pvp. So, if you like the adrenalin rush of either planned or unanticipated pvp and want it to count toward something (i.e., experience, skills, etc.), then pick a game that offers it. If, on the other hand, you prefer to avoid such encounters, pick a game where pvp is entirely voluntary or non-existant.
Group or solo is another major consideration for some players. Some games encourage soloing and others almost require that you do most everything in a group.
You might go through several games before you find one that fits your playstyle. Lots of games have free trials (a couple are on this site's home page) if you want to download their software. Others are cheap enough that it's worth buying rather than downloading (even at high speeds, downloading can take several hours), plus you get a longer trial (30 days versus 7 or 14 days).
I got Anarchy Online Shadowlands (full game plus expansion) for $10, well worth it for the 30 day free trial and I didn't have to give them any credit card information to play (you have to pick a payment plan but do not have to give them financial info).
Other bargains out there are Everquest: Evolutions ($30), which contains the original game plus the first 5 expansions, bringing you almost up-to-date with the game, and Dark Age of Camelot Platinum Edition ($30 - due out 6/22/04) which contains the original game, the Shrouded Isles expansion, Trials of Atlantis expansion, the free housing expansion and the free Frontiers expansion (the free expansions otherwise require big downloads).
Good luck in your search

Here's my opinion. Stay away from Lineage 2 like it was leprosy. Take a look at their official forums to get a better look of what the paid players think about the game (those that do post that is):

The communities are...well, lol you'll see
Anyways, here's another opinion. Since you already bought SWG, why not give it a try? They do have a free 14 day trial right now without a credit card to sign up so you can at least try it for free for 14 days.
About FFXI....its a pretty decent game. I bought it and didnt last 2 months on it. The 4 months later I reactivated it and last 23 days. I'm not saying it sucked but I didnt enjoy it.
Also, if you are not a guild kinda guy then I would stay away from FFXI. After level 14 or so (depending on your class) you will be 100% dependant on have other people help you kill monsters for experience points. If you're a white mage, you'll have an easier time finding a group, but enevertheless after a couple days ( or weeks) of game play you will forever be grouping with people.
If you like fantasy then I would either stick with the ones that hasnt come out yet lol. WoW is ok...I beta that one....its good but doesnt meet the hype what people are saying. But I know others who beta it and likes it.
EQ2? I have no idea...never beta that...althought the talking NPCs are kinda cool.
I hope that helps.....

I say play SWG. The reasons are mainly the same as En1Gmas. I played all 3. On SWG you can still use swords and melee weapons along with blasters, and you said you are a HUGE starwars fan also. FFXI isn't worth it to me cause you depend on a group after a certain level which is unessisary. As for LinageII well...
Noones mentioned City of heroes yet which i think is a very fun but it depends on the player because most people are now are going on about the the lifespan and repetition of it. I dont see this to be a problem tho with all the new conent coming in.

Well CoH was not on his list so did not say anything about it.
But yeah for me CoH blows this 3 away
City of Heroes was very fun for about 2 or 3 weeks
Its just got too repititive for me. However, my wife still plays it and likes it
