I've been playing mmorpgs since EQ which was also my first one, however i didn't like EQ very much so after a month i quit. However i have some really amazing memories in these games and it's always down to the community and immersion of the game. I'll talk about only the games that i really miss and wish i could go back to then...

Planetside:

Was really the first i got into for more than a month lol, i loved the combat and the size of the battles and back then the graphics were amazing. I just have amazing memories of when the game was released having to actually find a store that sold it in the UK so i spent all day and finally found a guy buying it in the shop( and it was the last copy), i told him i'd give him £50 for it so he sold it to me lol.

I just remember saying how amazing the game was to all my mates and there were giant Battles and sooo much customization that it beat BF1942 so they should come over here instead. However none of them at the time (cause they all play WOW, funny how Blizzard fanbois do anything to play their crappy games) wanted to pay the monthly fee so i could only get 2 mates to play. As at the time i was in my summer holidays in school on my final year i didn't go out once lol, just had July/August and part of September to this game. One mate of mine quit cause he kept getting owned so he went back to Counter Strike lol but just had a 2 man squad with the other guy all this time and WOW.

Remember foot rush battles on Amerish where between Qumu and Qantha there were no vehicles and just like 400 people fighting in a open field between 2 towers :) I remember giant battles of Forseral in the mountains of Lugh and Dagda lol and that battle actually lasted all weekend and just never seemed to stop. Just amazing memories of this game and i loved the Vanue force blade glow which they never should have removed :( In 2 man squads and rushing with lots of Vanu tanks and just remember lasting for hours in one tank. We were sooo good back then and one of my mates in the game and head of Purple Valor was in the leaderboard for top kills but he quit the game and it took months for people to catch him up lol.

Amazing memories of this game but they ruiend it with Core Combat and then BFRS and people quit and noone plays it anymore...

SWG:

I remember going to the shop and seeing it on the shelf and i never heard of it before but it was just released that day and i thought meh i'll buy it lol. I got into the game on Bria server and theres these guys waiting outside Mos entha Starport welcoming all the noobs into the game and recruiting, i guess they were beta players. He told me not to make a Wookie as they were gimped lol so i had to relog and create another one of the races and just remembering that they were ugly and bland and didn't seem like Star Wars to me.

I just remembering having to run everywhere and couldn't afford anything also... no doctor buffs or comp armor to own everything. It was a really hard game trying to grind back then and only way to do it for me was in a group. None of my friends liked the game but one and strangly enough he came was my Planetside mate too.

The game totally picked up once the patch for Vehicles and Player cities came in and just remembering having a lovely time chatting to people and joining a guild who amde a city called Twin cities lol. Just a really lovely social mmorpg that felt like a home i could stay in all day...

Then Jedi came into the game and it all became about them and JTLS came out and sooo many people were disappointed and quit, i just remember the population was really declining and i left the game.

EVE:

I picked up this game cause mate hinted that it was amazing but he couldn't afford the monthly fees anymore. So i went out and bought it but didn't get to play it till the next day as i spent all day in a club lol. Logging in and the game looked AMAZING however things like stations looked abit dodgey back then until they fixed it. The feeling of being lonely and it seeming cold was really great cause it felt like space and it had a great soundtrack.

I joined a Corp called Rona and back then i think they were one of the most powerful corps but they had alot of dodgey crap happen to them in later years and just dropped off the radar. Things like going on a giant 100 person corp parade and one guy shooting sumone and the concord shooting us all up lol. Back then the game was simple and nicer for me and less restrictions because people moaned all the time bout frigates using cruise missles. lol

Just getting my first Cruiser and getting blown up later that day by a gate camper in 0.4 lol, and losing a Cruiser back then was a Big deal lol. I remember people losing Battleships and then quiting the game because it took them soo long to afford one lol. Eve used to be great but now the servers way too overpopulated for my liking, however making like 10 servers wouldn't fix that anymore.

EQ2:

Wasn't sooo much the game back then but i got into family and friends beta 0 and it was like WOW the graphics are AMAZING and WOAH look at the cities :O Lol sooo breath taking and a amazing game for the first 15 levels, however after this the game became a long grind dragggggg and never got to play the class you wanted till 20 which sucked. Also the next level zones like Nek and TS were sooo bland and boring i quit cause just wasn't fun at that point.

However the beta was the best part of the game because there was sooo many people playing it you could get a group all the time and Antonica used to have like 6 zones at a time lol.

I havn't had a mmorpg since that has impressed me as much as these 4 when i started playing however they've all gone on to be ruined apart from EQ2. However games like EQ2 after WOW was launched was only bad because everyone stopped playing and it was impossible to find a group. Games like SWG and Planetside were ruined then drop of population and EVE suffered from too many players lol.

Lots of grinding whilst addicted to runescape. A few memories of fun PK's and quests, but generally depressing when I look back on it. Then owning alot in guildwars PvP, I'll never forget 8v8 competitions with my guild on teamspeak. Great, until my PC broke. I've played both with real life friends and made some friends. I haven't had a great/long MMO career, yet. I have heavenly expectations for AoC.

Ahhh...the good ol days of MMO's.

It all started with UO,  at the time UO was pretty much the only one out there.. In this game we used to be able to make Treasure maps, this was great, we were able to buy them, go hunt and find treasure.  It was a blast!!! Other great features were tameable dragons, Housing, and boats...In my eyes this was one of the better games ever created.  Outdated yes, but having a skill based game, with all these features was/is very hard to find now adays.

Next came EQ, WoW 3D graphics and all.  How cool was this, I started playing about when Kunark come in.  I played through DoN.  This game is the game that I pretty much base all my MMO's off of right now.  I remember just sitting in EC tunnel, selling and buy good "3 bags of Heavy armor at T1".  Oh god the memories.

After 6 years of playing EQ I thought I had enough so I moved on to many different games.  WoW was next up, it was short lived, then moved to EQ2, they did a great job with this game.  Kept me busy all the time, at ever level.  I played EQ2 for about 1.5 years, moved on to DDO, Lord of the Rings beta, Eve, I guess all the other major MMO's, Nothing really suited me.  Along came Vanguard.

Vanguard has been a treat.  Yes I know there are bugs, but the game play is great, better than anything else I have played in awhile.  The only Downfall I see with Vanguard right now is the Group system and exp systems, how they work together.  Basically I have a group of 4 friends that roll with me every night.  One night someone might not be able to make it.  if we decide to do a quest we have to do it all over again for the person that missed that night....God forbid if soemone goes on vacation, We would have a full week of catching up.  Yeah, there are alot of new games comming out, and alot out right now, but Vanguard has got them all beat so far, until AoC comes out and hits the mark, i will play vanguard.

my mmorpg best memories... asherons call.

it would have to be in the summer of 2001. i was sitting at my computer and listening to buddy holly buffing my char in the dunes of AA. i remember my suit of armor, it was brilliant. a sharp light blue helm with a matching robe, white gloves and white sollerats. as i finish buffing i meet up with a friend and equipt a frost spear. we race in to town killing vigourusly, we are unable to be stopped. killing one after another looting corpse by corpse how i miss the PVP action of Asheron's Call. it was wonderful. after this no game has matched the awesomeness if asherons call. i acually come to this mmorpg.com without even playing any mmorpgs, just waiting for another AC to come out.

    hope all is well.

UO - It seems a long time ago so I don't remember it that well.  I just remember things like the Guards killing people who were trying to steal from other people in town.  The first time I walked out of time I was killed by some type of fire magic from another player while I was walking down the road and he took all my newbie equipment.  I remember running through fire wall to get my magic resistance up and making arrows/bows from the trees to fight against the PKs.

EQ - I recall making a Ranger Half Elf in Qeynos.  I ran all over the area killing things and eventually finding Qeynos.  Then I saved up for the grey leather armor and non magic short sword.  I remember going into blackburrow and getting killed.  People asked me to consent when I died in there and they would drag my corpse out, but I didn't because I knew the old loot corpse trick.  My corpse was stuck in the wall a few times and I had to ask a GM to get it out.  Before my min maxing solo days I met some people a Warrior and a Paladin.  I grouped with them all the time in Everfrost.  Eventually we decieded to make the perilous journey to the commonlands.  We died at least once on the way in Runnyeye the goblin dungeon.  The beholder maze was also a beetch.  We went to the sea of sarrows and killed Gargoyles on Gargoyle Island because it was phat exp.  Eventually I got frustrated because my Ranger could kill anything without a group and I saw Druids kiting things all over the zones with ease as well as going invis, snaring, and being able to run away quickly.  After that I became a min maxer and played a number of differnt classes.  My friend eventually joined me in the game and he played an enchanter.  Together we explored some high level Luclin/Kunark dungeons.  He went on to PoP eventually and I quit around there as I didn't enjoy the key proccess to unlocking the differnt areas.  I also remember they had a special day with fabled items.  I stayed up 48 hours in line to get the fabled jboots.  I was dead for the next two days and they nerfed the fabled jboots to boot.  It was very sad.  Oh yeah I forgot to add there was no email in this game early on so I drop items and log out and log the other character in quickly to trade items with another character I created.  I also had some good times in Befallen.  The necros in there would kick my butt.  We went to camp for a 2 hand sword at the bottum and we all died.  We lost tuns of exp trying to get the corpse out of there.  Ah there was also the Nektulos starting area.  I remember getting lost in the forest because it was so dark and I got killed swimming through the river.  The corpse ended up at the bottum of the river and if I swam down there I would drown.  Something that also stands out in my mind is when a new server opened everyone would be slaughtering all the animals to get their leatherworking skill up and make newbie leather armor.  Ok memories a flooding back now.  I remember gfay doing the crushbone belts quest and also camping the sisters in lfay.  Mistmoor Castle was kinda neat too, but very dangerous.  There were a lot of neat hangouts.  I should also add the super powerful mobs that were waiting to wipe the floor with you all over the place.  A hill giant hits you for 500 600.  You are Dead!  Load Please wait... Eh I didn't see no stinkin Giant.  A Griffin hits you for 800 500.  You are Dead!  Griffin what???....  loading please wait...  Kazdean Gix hits fears you and smakes you in the back until you are dead all the this time you can't control your character.  Who is this crazy dark elf?  loading please wait...

WoW -  It's weird, but I don't remember any specific times in WoW even though I seemed to have a lot of fun.  Perhaps because the game went by so quickly.  Some of the instances were fun to explore for the first time and doing the quests were okay, but nothing that really stands out.

I've had lots of fun playing Ultime Online, best game i ever played...my older brother got me into it and i remember logging out while an ogre was chasing me because i had to go home...and when i logged back on at home my character was dead...lol...i was around 13 years old back then and didnt understand it was ONLINE and the world never stops even if i logged out...but i got used to it my brother taught me a few tricks...for example we used to hide at the inn's and watch someone drop their stuff so they can transfer it on their other characters and we would unhide and grab their loot as fast as possible and then hide again...and when the guy comes back he found his stuff missing and gets mad...thats something i enjoyed doing ever since they had trammel and fellucca shards when u couldnt steal in trammel...

another great memory was when i first encountered a dragon...some dude gate travelled to destard and i followed him...there would be like 5-8 people killing a dragon and i was invited to join them of course i died a lot because my skills were pretty low...but i had fun chatting with them and jsut killing dragons was a great experience...it was fun because back in the old days you could barely solo a dragon, it took team work....unless of course you could summon blade spirits and energy vortexes...but that took away the fun because you couldnt meet people and chat with them and all...
