Okay, here's the problems:
#1.
My RL friend and I are thinking about coming back to EVE. Both of us have played before, off and on, for quite a while. I've played about 9 months total, and I think he's at about 6.
The problem is that he wants to play, and get into some PvP ("pwn some people!", as he puts it), but he wants to play with RL friends. All of his online gaming has been with people he knows, but we can't get anyone else we know to play EVE.
I'm not sure how to get him to get over this, or if it'll even be possible. I know the two of us can't accomplish much PvP wise in EVE, but he just doesn't seem interested in playing with "strangers".
Anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to convince him? Anyone faced a similar problem? Or does it sound like it's hopeless, and I should give up?
#2.
Another problem is that he wants to be able to jump in and get into some PvP. I'm sure this is from his days in WoW and all the FPS games we've played. I too like to be able to hop on for a while, have some fun, and logoff. Hence why I still play CoX once and a while. That, and the awesome friends I've made there.
Does this playstyle work with the PvP in EVE? I'll admit, my PvP experience in EVE is very limited, so I'm not sure how well this will work. I've always played MMOs in guilds where everyone is super-casual, and nothing is forced upon the members. If you can't make it to a guild event, no biggie. Need to logoff cause you have to work in the morning? No problem.
How many PvP corps in EVE are like this? I don't really want to be forced to camp a gate for hours on end, when I have other things I want/need to do. I also don't really want to spend an hour looking for a fight that lasts 30 seconds.
If anyone could offer up some friendly advice/suggestions, that'd be greatly appreciated.

PvP isn't usually a good way to make money and fund itself. It also usually takes time to find a fight and is sometimes very quick but it all depends on the circumstances. I wouldn't say in general you can PvP and pwn some people casually. You can play casually and PvP but you'd need patience.
I can easily make friends online, as I've been playing MMOs for a decade now. But my friend is another matter.
As for PvP funding itself, both of us are well aware it doesn't generate much, if any, ISK. We have done missions, trading and mining to make ISK so far.
And I figured as much as for PvPing casually. The times I went out looking for fights in low-sec, it took quite a while to find someone worth fighting, and then it was over in a few seconds.
Thanks for the advice though.
Anyone else have some suggestions?

The lowsec chain from passari to egbinger is a blast to run. 69 consectutive lowsec systems with tons of offshoot constelations.
as for your second question. can you PVP casualy yes you can but there will be days that you dont get any fights. PVP in eve requires a bit of patience. its not "i see an enemy its time to fight". In EVE PvP consist of 3 parts "preperation" "the hunt" "the fight"
Preperation is done befor your running around its comming up with some basic battle plans and outfitting ships for certain goals. the hunt consists of finding your target and setting it up so you can get to the third part. this is often the longest part of PVP it consists of scouting, baiting, predicting, chassing this is the part of PVP that requires the most tactics and patience. then there is the fight this is the engagement and what most people think of when they hear the term PVP
PVP doesnt generate much income but i would haveto agree with the other person being a pirate is prolly going to suit the "there are times i just want to log on and blow people up" mindset. you are hunted though so be ready
