I got some of my girlfriends at work to play DAoC with me.  We played WoW for a while and got absolutely bored with that.  It was our first shot at an MMO and it was fun for a while, but when we started playing DAoC we were enthralled at the possibilities of "real" things to do.

But here's our complaint...

How the heck do you get to do anything?

For example, we wanted to focus on the Champion Levels.  We can't.  We get on and ask our guild, we ask our alliance, we troll the boards, but it's impossible to get them completed.   We just can't gather the amount of people to keep going at the point where we're at.

So, as much as we'd like to play we haven't been able to.  It seems that the only people that ever have those done are the folks that ran through them at their implementation or the players who are just with the "in crowd".  As much as we'd like to be in the "in crowd" we all have kids and work.  We just don't have the time.

There is a lot of content in DAoC, but it's been put too far away for us casual players.

Could you guys do me a favor?  We want to play, so if Mythic ever does anything to make these things more available to people to actually experience, let me know.  I will check back on this posting occasionally to see.  Once it's there for us to get to we will certainly resub.

Thanks!

I hate to admit it, but I'm having the same trouble.

I play on Lancelot and I am a member of one of the largest guilds on that server.  They do a lot compared to the other guilds as well.  But I have trouble getting to do things too.  I haven't been able to get into the parts of the Labyrinth I would like to see.

It seems kind of silly to make content that does not match up with the population of the servers.  Which lately has been decreasing a lot.  There's going to be all this content that no one can get to.  That's not going to keep the interest of new blood.

Conspiracy Time:  Are they doing it on purpose?  Maybe their trying to lower the server populations so that they can move the staff over to Warhammer?  Hmmmm....?

I agree, somewhat, that the population for PvE is not there.  On the other hand, most of what is out there you do not need a group to do.  You can do all of the Champion Quests up to Co5.  I think the new CL quests also begin out where you can do them solo/duo as well.  The new dragon quests are mostly for 1-4 people as well.

A larger problem comes down to the PvE/RvR conflict.  If you just want to RvR then being forced to do PvE is frustrating.  So, they have made it so you can get almost everything you need by RvR in some way.  This has lead many players to abandon doing PvE.  There still are plenty of people that want to PvE - the problem is finding them.  I still want to finish Darkspire and that takes a FG with certain classes.  Most of the time I can never get a full group.  Further, people only do things for "rewards" so if the rewards aren't there then people won't go.  So it is a cycle of problems.

But with that said, you can find groups to do these things.  First thing you need to do is make sure you are in a large alliance that has a webpge and calender.  If you have that then chances are you can find PvE groups.  That is how I get Co5 done.  Also, even if there is nothing scheduled, you can schedule it.

As for ToA, everything there will be able to be done by a group or less starting with the next patch.  I am not sure it is nerfed enough so that say 2-4 people can do it, but I am sure some aspects can with certain classes.

That is one of the same reasons I quit.  I love the RvR in DAoC, but every once and a while you want to enjoy some relaxing PvE.  You can't after a certain stage because mostly what you end up doing is spending two hours trying to fruitlessly put a group together.

I think that maybe if they had some kind of grouping tool that is better than the one implemented now it might help.  That, and if people were nicer enough to help out.  I've actually gotten bored and gone into some of the dungeons just to stand there and help people.  On things I've already done.  I just think it's cool that they get to experience that fun.

Then again, I'm a weirdo.  So...

This is a problem that a lot of games are going to experience as the gaming population diffuses across the many games available and to become available.  The smarter games will begin to reduce the team strength necessary to accomplish epic tasks and raids or find a large portion of their games a wasteland.  DAOC seems to be able to respond to population changes quite quickly, so I doubt it will be long before they figure out there's a problem with Champion levels. They can be hard-headed at times (coughTOAcough), but once they decide to get real, changes happen quickly.

Keep an eye on the Herald.

My problem with Mythic is the nerfing.Constant unrelenting changing of class abilitys. They simply don't have a vision of what a given class should do AND STICK TO IT ! Too many times I have spent months developing a character and there ideal template only to see their capabilitys shattered to a point where they are just not fun to play...and a lot of my time wasted. To me that shows how little they reguard their player base....that payes their salary.

In a year no one will care...DAOC for all intent's and purposes will be gone.

I play as a duo Friar / Mauler on Classic

High end raid-type content or group-related mobs are about the only thing at all that we cannot take on.  My partner and I have been taking purples since we were in our 30s and have no problems doing most every quest or instance.  We arent the fastest killers in the bunch, but we rarely worry about death or dying, even when surrounded by 6 red and purple mobs.

As far as higher end content, well... we are fortunate enough to have met up with a fantastic guild.  Our guild is smaller, but friendly and is quite often helping each other out.  We are all experienced MMORPGers, and most of us have many alts we level up.  I suppose since we are not a guild that is FOCUSSED on RvR or raids or whatever, we can spend more time helping out.  We communicate via message board a lot and arrange times for raids to wherever, though the larger raids happen quite rarely now.

I would suggest that if you are finding that is your problem, you should look at grouping with members in your alliance.  See if you can get into groups that are mostly another guild to see what their guild is like.  Maybe you just need to find a guild that is better suited to your needs.  Another option would be to get 7 other friends and organize your own 8-man, that should pretty much guarantee you can do about any quest/mob in the game with few exceptions.

Not to be rude, but what does that have to do with not being able to Champion Levels.

Focus, my man.  Focus.  Like a laser.

I'm in a huge guild/alliance.  But point taken about the whole "being suited for me" thing.  You may be right.  My guild does spend a lot of time RvR'ing.  I guess I spend maybe 5% of my time in RvR (or less sometimes).  I am mostly an explorer and PvE'er.

I think a lot of folks are experiencing this, and not just in DAOC.  As these mmo's age, populations dwindle, and this absolutely impacts the ability of new players to move through the content and get caught up with others.  In a way it becomes a stumbling block to really getting into these older games.

Perhaps after a time, when populations begin to dwindle, a server or two within a game might be opened that allowed for quick leveling and smaller groups.  After all, many of the rewards at low levels will be obsolete anyway at the higher levels, and at this point the new players just want to get caught up.  Also, after a few years, the old rewards will have been marginalized somewhat by newly released content, so that shouldn't be an issue really.

It might also be a place where casuals would more likely gravitate, so their wouldn't be so much conflict between casuals and hardcore players.
