So, a stand up guy like Ron Paulcomes along with a new idea and look at how he is treated.
The idea that we were attacked because the Arab-Muslim world is jealous of our freedom and way of life is propaganda, period; if that's true then why aren't terrorists attacking EVERY democracy in the world or EVERY country that they consider morally bankrupt? We were attacked because of our political policies in the Middle East; specifically our support of Israel in everything that they do, regardless of how fucked-up it is (if any other country in the Middle East had a policy of open assassination, we'd be all over their asses). People in American, even politicians, aren't ready to face the fact that our actions played a part in why we were attacked; we would rather believe that they hate us for no reason because it justifies us running roughshod over the entire Middle East to "root out terrorism".
"We don't think a child of 13 should be held responsible as a man of 23. That's true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such." So white, Asian, and Hispanic kids in gangs aren't dangerous, but we are? Gotcha...
"Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5 percent of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market, individual liberty and the end of welfare and affirmative action." So the only sensible political opinions are those that coincide with his? Nevermind that he doesn't cite where these polls came from.
"...we are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational. Black men commit murders, rapes, robberies, muggings and burglaries all out of proportion to their numbers." No comment...
So, for me, the bottomline is fuck this dude . I can't take his comments as anything but racist and inflammatory; and he attempted to justify them when there is no justification other than his blatant bigotry. I don't care if these comments are 15 years old, he was a man of at least 56 years, and I don't know anyone in that age range that changes their opinions with time. Then again, maybe he is the perfect candidate for the conservative right...his views will help him garner the all-important middle-American vote.
Wait a damn minute!!!!
I went and read that article and I challenge you to tell me which part of what he said is wrong. It's true that blacks commit more crimes proportionally that whites. And I wouldn't doubt his statistics too much about most blacks being pro-welfare and not understanding the political system too much. It takes some knowledge of Economics to be an economic conservative. It's not a secret that most blacks are not as educated as whites.
Saying those things are not racist. They are facts. If stating facts is racist then you need to explain that whole logic to me because I don't get it.
Instead of yelling about someone being racist, why don't you instead focus on his motivation for saying what he said. I've said it before on this site and I'll say it again. NOTHING is going to get better for race relations until people face the facts about what's going on and quit throwing out the race card on everything. Just because someone says that there is a problem in the black community does not make them a racist person. It makes them an observant concerned person who wants to drop the racist crap and get down to business fixing the problem instead of being scared to mention it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron Paul didn't write that. It was one of Ron Paul's aids who misattributed him.
"I could never say this in the campaign, but those words weren't really written by me. It wasn't my language at all. Other people help me with my newsletter as I travel around. I think the one on Barbara Jordan was the saddest thing, because Barbara and I served together and actually she was a delightful lady." Paul says that item ended up there because "we wanted to do something on affirmative action, and it ended up in the newsletter and became personalized. I never personalize anything."
"They were never my words, but I had some moral responsibility for them . . . I actually really wanted to try to explain that it doesn't come from me directly, but the campaign aides said that's too confusing. 'It appeared in your letter and your name was on that letter and therefore you have to live with it.'"

No one is playing the race card. I'm not Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson chasing after Don Imus over some statements that were hardly racial; I'm pointing out that a PRESIDENTIAL HOPEFUL made some overtly racist comments that I disagree with. These were not constructive comments that will help to quell race relations, as you seem to think. He wasn't pointing out problems in the black community, or ways to fix these problems; he was sitting back doing a bunch of finger-pointing, basically branding the majority of blacks as ignorant people with a predelection towards crime...apparently, you agree. I shouldn't even dignify this fucking nonsense with a reply, but I feel like I can't let this shit go unchecked.
If you agree with the first statement I quoted, then you're a fucking racist. There's NO argument to justify that statement. He is singling-out black youths. He doesn't say anything about gang culture in general; he simply makes it seem that either 1) all gangbangers are black or that 2) other racial groups in gangs are not dangerous. Please, in your infinite wisdom, justify that statement for me...I REALLY wanna hear this one...
Your basis for agreeing with the second statement is based on education. That said, he stated 5% of blacks hold "sensible political opinions"; believe me, more than 5% of the black population in this country is well-educated. One's political knowledge is also not limited to education; as we live in an age of information with the internet and cable news. Would you say the same thing about whites in the southeastern and midwestern U.S., who are generally more poorly-educated than whites in other parts of the nation? I doubt it. Nevermind that the way he worded the statement shows bias in and of itself, as if his political opinions are the only sensible ones. Besides, who conducted these polls? Where can I see the results for myself? What groups of people, and in what areas, were they polling? No answers, hmm? FOH...
I didn't even think I would have to justify my contempt for that final statement, but here goes. First and foremost, no one should advocate the fear of an entire group of people, be it ethnic, racial, religious etc. That comment REEKS of Jim Crow-era Klan propaganda...Birth of a Nation, anyone? Furthermore, crime is not about race...crime is about economic status. Poor white people commit just as many crimes as poor black people, poor Hispanics; the point being that there are simply less white people in unfavorable living conditions and low-income areas. You will see that over the years, as the number of blacks and Hispanics in the middle-class and above has risen, crime has dropped drastically. Is there mention of the class issue? Hell no, all he does is sit back and make statements that amount to "black people commit crimes." And the proportions are not out of control: if you look at the percentages on felonies, they're not nearly as disparate as you think. What about Hispanics, who are almost running neck-and-neck with us in crime rates? Nope...no mention of them. Plus, part of that statement is HIGHLY inaccurate: white men, of ALL social groups, commit more rapes than any other race, PROPORTIONALLY; reported and unreported. You don't believe me, look it up. What if we looked at other crimes, like pedophilia, for instance; again, another crime where white men are the main offenders by a staggering amount. I personally think that ruining someones life through rape or molestation is the worse type of offense there is. What do you have to say to that?
The point is that ALL of his opinions contain some sort of skewed statistic, not facts. If you think those are facts, and can't see how those statements are flawed, then you might as well go down to the meeting with him to get your new robe and hood.

I'd like to believe that, but I don't. It sounds about as realistic as Alberto Gonzales "not knowing who his aides were firing." He wanted to explain that he didn't make those remarks, but his aides advised against it...and he listened to that? Honestly, when statements that inflammatory and racially-charged are attributed to you, it's in your best interest to clarify where they came from as quickly as possible so people won't EVER get the impression that those are your opinions. What happened to accountability?
That's a nice article and all, but I'm just kind of reminded of Trent Lott's "apology" after the remarks he made about how Strom Thurmond should have been president. Politicians will say anything to cover their asses once they slip up. While I agree with the opinion that the government creates most of the designations that divide people within this country, and I would love to believe that an equal playing field would actually be equal, I also know first-hand that the "Good Ole Boys Club" is still alive and well in this country; and what he proposes would probably end up being less than advantageous for minorities as a whole.

I just looked into Trott and he supports all that racism crap. Ron Paul is completely the opposite, he supports equality and freedom and less government intrusion, how is that racist? Ron talked about the horrible things America has done to the middle east and the blowback involved...if he was racist why would he give a damn about the brown people in the middle east?

I didn't say he didn't clarify. I said it would have been in his best interest to clarify any misunderstanding as quickly as possible. If he had immediately rectified the perception that those were his comments, then there wouldn't be any doubt that he did or did not say them. Instead, the amount of time between those comments being in his newsletter, and his statement that he didn't make them was a gap of at least 4 years; which just makes it seem as if he was coping-out.
You mistunderstood me: I wasn't saying his opinions are like Lott's, merely that this article following those statements that were attributed to him is reminescent of Lott apologizing after what he said about Thurmond. Nowhere in that post did I call him a racist or say he supports racism...
Chill out, man...you're looking for an argument that isn't even there.
What does being sensitive to the plight of Middle Easterners have to do with being bigoted against African-Americans? Maybe you haven't noticed, but those are two different groups of people. Though it's the common perception, not all racists are hateful towards everyone of a race different than their own. Racism doesn't follow any specific set of rules that says you have to hate everyone.

If a person goes out and gets stats about the black community compared to the white community and presents them, does that make the statistician racist? No, it doesn't. Yet, if someone uses those stats to make a point that something needs to be done to change the problems in the black community they are a racist to you.
You can call me racist all you want. I know who I am and what I believe. I also know that there is a HUGE problem in the black community with crime, drugs, gang banging, and other sorts of things. To deny that is doing no one a favor. I'm sorry you can not see that, but don't feel lonely. There are plenty of people that fall into that "racist" name calling trap every day.
And yes, it comes from lack of education and understanding. Economic conservatism is a philosophy and idea that takes a lot more brain power than liberal economics. Just throwing money at a problem does not fix it. That is the liberal way. Observing the problem, identifying the source, and then coming up with a long term solution takes knowledge and intelligence. Not only that, but it takes a person who is willing to do the right thing even though it may make a few people who don't understand his means for solving the problem angry.
I wouldn't trust a liberal with our economy for a second. They will destroy it. And unfortunately, a lot of black American's vote liberal.
i dont see how anyone, anywhere can not vote for him. well yes i can, they belive that pre-determined 'not really an answer to the question' crap every other robot canidate spits out. like the rudy thing, as soon as it happened im thinking man, what a fake, and how obvious is it that we are indeed attacked and hated because *gasp* we bomb the living hell out of everyone. then i thought, i bet 9/10 people watching this just got puppy eyes at old rudy cuz there are too many idiots around.
botom line, republican, democrats ..all they really want is all the control, and all the money. therefore they hate ron paul, who doesnt want to spend our(the peoples) money. who wants less and less power.
sure there are issues you dont agree with him on, but odds are hes gonna say thats your own business and not the governments anyway instead of everyone else who wants to tell you exactly what to do and steal your money. hes really our only chance to start changing things instead of heading further and further down the same path.

If a person goes out and gets stats about the black community compared to the white community and presents them, does that make the statistician racist? No, it doesn't. Yet, if someone uses those stats to make a point that something needs to be done to change the problems in the black community they are a racist to you.
Agreed, that doesn't make the statistician racist. I also agree that if someone uses those facts to point something out and change the problem, that is not racism. That's not what he's doing...where is this phantom manifesto about fixing the problems of the black community? I haven't seen anything about him attempting to provide solutions to the problem, but I have seen him use these statistics to attempt to single us out as an entire race of criminals.
I don't really think you're a racist, just not terribly sensitive to the issue of race...but then again, you don't have to be. Ever. That's the great thing about being white. How do you know these things? When was the last time YOU spent time in a black neighborhood? Was it, umm...never? I'm not denying there are problems, but everything you mentioned is on the decline (especially gangs). Why are these things on the decline? Because the middle-class is expanding and people are rising out of poverty.
The whole problem here is painting these things as black and white issues. If you go to a poor white neighborhood, you see the same things that you see in a poor black neighborhood. People from a trailer park are just as criminal as people in the ghetto. These aren't issue of race, they're issues of class.
Agreed...but education is on the rise with the integration of more blacks into middle-class standing and higher. I think that Welfare perpetuates laziness in an entire group of people, regardless of race.
I wouldn't trust a liberal with our economy for a second. They will destroy it. And unfortunately, a lot of black American's vote liberal.
African-Americans vote liberal because of social policy, not economic policy. Why? Because social policy is the bigger issue for us.
And I'd still like someone to justify the comment that, "We don't think a child of 13 should be held responsible as a man of 23. That's true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such." Why are blacks singled-out here? It's not like there aren't just as many Hispanic gangbangers and a sizeable number of white gangs (plenty of them in the Midwest, especially ones affiliated with the White Power Movement) and Asian gangs (lots of Asian gangs in California). And how many 13 year-olds do you know who are as big, strong, and tough as an adult? Very few, regardless of race. Is that a fact too?

You haven't seen him do anything. You simply want to believe he is a racist based on a misunderstanding that he corrected, while disregarding his core message of freedom and equality for everyone...what is less racist than that? He has been fighting inequality with every issue that arises, all you have to do is look at his political career.
He has been criticized at times for his voting record, being the only dissenting vote against giving Rosa Parks and Mother Teresa the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor (because it's unconstitutional so he did the same with white people). When he was criticized for voting against the medal for Parks, he chided his colleagues by challenging them to personally contribute $100 to mint the medal. No one did, of course. At the time, Paul observed, ‘It's easier to be generous with other people's money.’
yeah he's a real racist motherf***er, right? pffft.

So, for me, the bottomline is fuck this dude . I don't care if these comments are 15 years old, he was a man of at least 56 years, and I don't know anyone in that age range that changes their opinions with time. Then again, maybe he is the perfect candidate for the conservative right...his views will help him garner the all-important middle-American vote.

Achiever 60.00%
Explorer 33.33%
Killer 80.00%
Socializer 26.67%
According to this survey, I'm an item-whoring ganker. I guess I should have stuck with WoW then...lmao.
