I was one of those who thought lotre was not a good game

Yes i was ,,,

but people kept telling me to give it a try , means play at least till level 18 ,, for thats long enough to see most of the features and games areas... yes game starts a bit slow even feel a bit boringish ,,, but once over 16 it gets great

1the more you play , the better it gets

2. Who ever tells you the game sucs , he did not play it or he never made over level 12 or prolly never even finished introduction......

3, who ever tell that quests are Linear thats Rubish , quests are better then in any other games (mmo ) i have ever played

there are few kind of quests Epic ,,, beautifull big stories conected to books and devided  by level for for every tier like 12 chapters (quests)

they are not linear or nither they copy the book , those quests try to conect you to main story line from lord of the rings, for example while Nazguls were on their way looking for frodo they past many villages asking for him ,, so what if one of those guys in one of those villages were you etc, . The game is very clever how try to inclode all players in well known story , no we never play frodo or aragorn ,,, but we will meet them and have a chance to help them while on their way on well known story ... so people say whats the point , because we know the story well , yes you do know the story ,, but not the story of your character , thats new and unic ,, truly well designed to fit into lotre universe

Beside those quests there are all other normal sort of quest like crafting , collections, kill 20 wolfs like in any other game etc....

Landscape is great , stunning and never stop to take your breath ,,Landscape graphic is the best i have ever seen , every tree in Old Forest is different , dungeons and towns are full of details with beautifull lighting , no texture is generic ..........this is where EQ2 failed had great character animation and texture , while landscape was generic and with very little details and generic texture ,, just think of Splitpaw and you will know what i am talking about ,,,,,just empty walls, simple design , while in lotre wherever you look landscape is full of details and objects with high texture.

Animation of characters is not as good as in EQ2 but its still good enough to keep me happy

Overall game is one of the best out there

Im not saying its a poor game, but your statement here is so wrong there are alot of ppl who played a char to lvl 12 > and still thinks it sucks... its all a matter of taste.

I was thinking I would sell the game at about lvl 10. I'm 16 now and I LOVE it. Wow. Such a great game.

I agree with the EQ2 comment, that game had so much potential and really didn't pull through with community or developer interaction.

Yes this is a real fun game, and the best part is, is that it has so much more to come that it should only get better.

One of the best launch games ive seen in a while as far as how everything works and the game play. Crafting still needs some touching up but the devs are aware of that and have stated that it is something they are gona be working on.

So you are saying it is better than Beta which  I played 2 characters to 30?

As stated above, personal preference but I was not impressed so have not purchased the release...probably will not.

At this point, I'd say no...if you got to 30 in Beta you've got a pretty good idea what the game is and is not.... and it just might not be for you.  Perhaps future expansions might be a reason to check it out again later....

Actually the games pretty demanding from 20 up... At least in terms of EQ2 or WoW. Mostly because if you enter a world-elite-mob area in LotRO, theres not "oops, pulled too many, run for it!!"... Then you stand there and you know you are doomed. Respawn is ultra-quick and you will only find defeat on your "run fer it"-tour, no corpse run, back to the stone circle you go, another 5 minute walk, 10 minute rezz sickness and a pretty decent amount of repair cost.

Thats something you didn't have in EQ2, WoW or equivalent... at least not until high levels, or when did you ever need a full 6-man group to do a "go there and get my crate from the ruins"-quest... at level 22(!!)?

    Meridion

EDIT: Thats not critizising BTW. I think its a great thing to have supereasy solo quests just for laid back leveling AND real group challenges, so you actually can choose...

To be honest i also bashed the game after open beta and i have to admit i gave it a try to level 20 and i cant stop playing, it does start off real slow but the game really is great.

Yes you are right but i think you missed what the OP said he said the more you play the better it gets not play to lvl 12 and be done with it to me lvl 12 is still the starting area well that is only 2 areas in game. The game starts just like the movie did very slow then it takes off i mean did any find the first 20 min of the movie exciting i know i didnt i had a hangover and felt that a slepp was more needed for me but then something happened something grabbed me by the balls (and no it was not the usher or the girl sitting next to me) and tool me for a bloody good ride just like the game seriously u need to get to atleast bree which is lvl 15 or higher then the game opens up.

I don't know. I started off not liking the game, got to a point that I liked it and now have a 'been there, done that' feeling towards it. It's really fun for a while but it seems every level is just more of the same - kill this, deliver that. Maybe I'm missing something. My level 18 Hunter has been fun to play at times but all the quests seem the same. For instance, I did the first Barrow quest where you had to kill 12 wights. I turned the quest into constable at the town hall and the next quest he gives me is to kill 25 more wights. I did a message-delivery quest from the Forsaken Inn to Bree and got a return quest doing the same thing. That's not my idea of fun. The scenery is great. The game doesn't lag one bit but something seems to be missing for me.

The game also seems too easy. Except for Weathertop, where the 2,000 HP Orcs are, I haven't really been challenged the way I have in other games. I can easily make a level just by doing 5 or 6 yellow quests at a time. Sometimes I die but it doesn't slow me down. When I played SWG, killing a rancor or krayt was very tough. WoW and EQ2 also had some tough fights. In LOTRO I haven't had a tough fight yet and that's playing solo. Grouping makes it even easier in my opinion. Maybe it gets more difficult the higher the level but so far for me it's been kind of boring. I don't mean to belittle those who are having a good time. I'm glad for you but at this point I'd have to say that LOTRO isn't the game for me. I want more of a challenge out of my gameplay.

Stroll down to the Stonespeaker area or Agamaur  areas in the Lone Lands. Try to solo those ares at level 20 And remember you can also venture to North Downs area as well . North Downs is awesome, one of my favorite areas , then after that it is to Angmar !

I been playing in Nan Amlug East and Dol Dinen areas in North Downs, getting my butt kicked

I've been playing for about a week now, the game is quite enjoyable.

I do wish they improve the PvP aspect of it though.

I can completely see where this guy is coming from, as I feel teh same way. LotRO is a very polished game, particularly for a launch. The problem I had, perhaps its my ADHD, but the quests all feel the same. As he said, I dunno how many "kill X # of mobs" quests I got, each with a slightly different BG story telling me to do the same thing. Honestly, this would not be so bad if things were just, well, harder or perhaps more risky is the proper wording.

I do miss death penalties, not because I enjoy getting smacked in the face AFTER I fail, but because it made the game, right up until I died, a lot more intense. You had to be careful out there when adventuring. But now, you don't really need anything but attrition. You can  throw yourself at a difficult quest again, and again, until you finally pull it off with no penalty.

I'm not trying to revive the Death Penalty debate, that horse is so dead its undead. But I do wonder what people take from gameplay that just does not challenge them. It seems more and more that we view most of the content of an mmo like a car trip to an theme park. So we demand that the car take the straightest route to the fun at the end, and any stops along the way are viewed as an annoyance.

Yes, with a penalty for failure, you will be spending more time in that car. But since that is where the majority of the game is played, isn't it worth it to make the ride more exciting? With a game like LotrO, where the Ride literally IS everything (being almost totally PvE), isn't doing everything to challenge the player even more important?

I get that a lot of people dig this game, I am not trying to give anyone crap for that, as it takes all kinds of peeps. But I would like those who do enjoy it to consider why they like low/zero consequence gameplay? Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I do not feel like I am doing anything but turning some arbitrary crank and watching my character play itself mostly. As if  my toon really doesn't need me to play the game, save for my monthly fee.

I really want to like this game, as I am a huge Tolkien Fan. It just feels so...I dunno, simplistic, when taken against the source materials of the Books. Maybe I've just become an old, jaded gamer

If you played beta to 30, you didn't have the Hi-res client or the cinematics.  So you lost alot there.  I played beta and didn't care for the game much.  Then I got bored with the other game I was playing and decided to try it now that it released.  I think theres a big difference between the beta and the release....

I agree for the most part.  If you play until you finish book 1 and don't like it still, then the game isn't for you...but you at least need to get that far.

Might you give me an example of a game you are comparing it to as far as graphics goes? I'm highly interested.

My two cents on the forum subject alone.

You are not the only person who hated this game. I started it out AMAZED, I was going at every single player Title I could get my hands on. I was loving this game as a Bard [always a healing class], I was so ready to buy the game. I actually ordered the collectors edition for the 75$ price and was more than willing to pay the monthly fee. On the last day of open beta, I cancelled my Game-Stop purchase and realized I hated it.

Yes, the graphics are great. But I realized something, there is ONE decently new idea in this game that bugged me.. the one thing that appealed to me so much at first. The player titles. They took one concept and rewrote it over and over and over throughout the game so people would be anticipating trying to achieve all of them.

Originality is something I look for, and didn't find it here.

i never played Lotro. from what i hear tho it is the best MMO out today. i am just being carefull cause best doesnt mean good. so, is it really worth getting it, does it have the right feel (i dont care about graphics as long as the game works)?

EDIT: basically found my answer for the second question above. still looking for answering the first one.

You just aren't looking at it from the correct perspective.

The people who play and enjoy this game aren't looking for heart pounding non-stop action. I've seen this before when players post that they want to feel their heart going and the thrill of the fight right up to the point they (or their opponent) die.

but this game is not about that. It is really far more sublime than that and is truly based in the books. Sure, there are so many "kill x" quests but they are wrapped in the story.

As far as the death penalty. "Light Death Penalties" appeal to people who don't have a lot of time. I know people have complained that the WoW death penalty is easy but for me, I will turn off the game if I die twice because I just don't want to "run" back to my corpse as that is just a waste of tim.

For LOTRO the death penalty will affect your fighting efficacy and it will also cause you to have higher repair bills for your gear (and there are so many people who complain about this).

LOTRO is for people who have limited time and just want to play in the Lord of the Rings universe. It's not about adrenaline pumping action but more about story.

I can easily see why people would hate this game as it is not for everyone's taste.

I first tried this game in beta and hated it at first.  I logged in and thought, OMG it's freakin D&D all over again.  I played a character to lvl 5 and quit.  I decided a few days later to get the most of the beta and play at least until lvl 10.  I got to 10 and have not looked back.  I enjoy the hell out of this game and the community is really cool so far.  I think most of the kiddies are still playing that other game not to be mentioned.  Just try to play on into the teens before making a decision.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You Want Some Originality , so here you go
….Game has over 100s of traits ,like  class traits , race traits  etc and some very rare LEGENDARY ONEs .....Depending which one you equip you design the unique and individual character ..
So what’s trait ,, Depending on deeds and quest you ve done ,, you get those different traits that allow you to customise your characters. Those traits will give different bonuses to your stats,, like agility or regeneration in combat etc....
For an instance if you reached level 20 without getting killed you get trait something like hardy ,, that gives you more life points then anyone else etc

depending on which emotes you use the most with your character, you get stats of personality like , grumpy or sad  person etc....

    its quite original
Hope and Dread I love those)

If you are in area like Angmar , or some spooky tombs etc ,, your dread grows and your hope (Moral) which is life point goes down,
In lotre Life is presented as moral, the Idea is the  more of it we have(life) , the harder(Longer) we will fight ( so that’s why our moral (LIFE)points grows if we are in safe areas , on in daylight etc ,,,,and  it goes down when we get scared or loose hope..
Some areas Like Angmar have very high dread effects and also some creatures can gives you fright

That’s why you will see that Lotre does not use healers and healing system like other games , In fact its totally original ,they are in fact moral boosters , supporters that by encouraging you raise your Moral (life points) to make you fight Longer

Do you know how did they come up with it ,,,,

they seen it in peter jacksons film ...... like for an instance When felowship  fights in Helms deep ,, they lost hope ,dread took them, and even Legolas thought they were going to die, but when Gandalf appeared on the hill with sunrise ... they sudenly felt a surge of energy and hope  runing  out to face their enemies and  fight with renewd strenght and hope ...
jakson kept using dread and hope in trilogy all the time and game designers loved it , and inplanted it in the game

Hmmm that seems to be my problem.  I played bunch of different character, not higher than 10.  Frankcly i don't see what's everyone find so fun about that game.  Then i read this thread saying the game really start to shine after 15...  Hmm...   I'm really not sure if i want to re-install it....

LOTR was a pleasant diversion before that, but for me, it stepped up considerably after hitting N Downs.
