Everquest 2 - looking at it again.

Hi,

I played Everquest 2 around launch time.  Had a paladin and got him past level 20 and then quit.  Something about it did not work for me.

I hear its a different game now and am wondering how different it can really be.  Anyone else try the game at launch, quit and then return?   Another question:  how is it in regards to PvP?

Thanks.

They changed the classes to where you can choose them from level 1 (example: shadowknight, conjuror).

They removed heavy exp penaltys,  now you only get 10% reduction to armor and small xp debt.

They made the chest drops and quest rewards more useful to your character.  They added teleport spells castable by druids and wizards.  Increased base run speed of all characters,  turn and straffe speed is also faster.

All of the spells and abilities got revamped.  Quests got revamped and added.  This is all I know.

Having spent a year out from EQ2 i have decided to return also.

I already have a level 52 Necromancer on Splitpaw server but because i downloaded the Echoes of Faydwer expansion i have started a new character so i can check out the content of the new expansion.

About 1 hour more of Downloading the trial, then im heading in, if i like it, wich i think i will, then ill go get it tomorow along with an SOE Game Time Card just for the heck of it

I played the isle of trials about a year ago, was alot of fun, but i was still stuck in the addiction that was wow, and am currently lookin for a new fix

Jokes aside, this looks nice, and if the trial doesnt win you over, i dont know what would

I guess to have the best time possible, you should get some friends to play with you and find the most populated server, and also ive heard comming with the new expansion, there will be new people aswell as alot of alts playing the new race that they will add to the game, so that should help a bit to make it feel less empty of people of the same level.

This game seems very nice now compared to what it was at release...very solo friendly (at least when compared to what it was) and very polished. The community is top notch too.

I suggest anyone who hasn't played for year or so to give it a try

I tried it, not a bad game now, but the low level areas are deserted.

I like to group, so I got bored and did not renew.

Too bad the game is so top heavy with experienced players.

I didn't think it was that good.  For one thing they still have locked encounters.  That really kills the feeling the world is real.  You have to call for help to unlock the encounter.  The classes are okay, but they all have a similiar feel.  One thing I miss from EQ was not every class could solo, but those that couldn't generally were far more desired in groups so there was a tradeoff.  If you wanted to solo you picked certain classes and some were more powerful then others.  It made the game more interesting.  On the flip side if you made it to high level with a non solo  class people knew you must be a pretty good player.

Mmm, I tried this game a few months ago and didn't think much of it.

Alot of people who know me as far as how I rate my games and critique my game-play tell me that EQII would be a decent game to try out.

I'd also be interested in hearing why they feel that way. :]

I can tell you the graphics was pretty nice when I played. One of the things I didn't like was all the expansions for it.

I played EQII for little while, got about four character to lvl 20's. I also reactivated my account a half year ago, but did not play long.

Basicly on my opinion EQ II is very nice game, but it lacks of character induvidualism and development for my taste. Game atmosphere was allways very good, but when You play, it feels like You are in rails. Only one route to go and everyone is doing the same route. Everyone looked the same and so on.

I am sure, there is many who will like it, but it just wasn't for me.

MMORPG.COM has worst forum editor ever exists

  • In my opinion EQ2 as it currently stands is a slightly better game than WoW with better devs and better communications.  When I say slightly better game I mean feature wise.  If you just like the Warcraft world then go for WoW and vice versa if you like the way EQ2 looks and feels.  They both have their strong points, some of WoW's zones have less abrupt boundaries, but EQ2 has a better night day cycle and better water.  WoW has more flexible interface, EQ2 has some extra flexible interactions like jumping off griffons in mid flight. etc.

All in all EQ2 is a nice game and for the most part many features are slightly richer than WoW, for example guild banks and levels etc.  I only played on a PvP server and no longer play, but all in all it was much better experience than I was expecting.

Locked encounters are a choice and not the default for a group. You can turn it on though if you are in a very competitive area.

EQ2 is the game I keep returning to. Occasionally I get bored of it and try a new MMO, but I always end up restarting my account and loving the game for a few months.  Best MMO on the market IMO.
