OK bought the game yesterday, played a few hours, so far managed to level up a druid to 6. But there is NO ONE playing, i think in my 2-3 hours playing around, i must have seen 3 peoples. Last night when i started playing, i choosed the only server with a medium population. I tried talking to the /ooc channel, but for some reason, it seems to be down, nothing appears on my screen when i type. I tried to shoot to see if anyone was around, once again, no answer. On and btw i did got a whisper while playing this morning and believe it or not, it was from a gold seller ! Darn, it's WOW again lol.

Regardless of what server you play on, if you do not want to be alone, do not start in Kojan or Martok. These areas are the least populated of the game.
Lets Eat It!
the problem is that most people playing are higher level and there a very few newplayers to fill out the grouping need at lower levels. /sigh

Its not down, you need to join the chat channel. /autojoin set RegionSay or click in your chat box and enable regionsay. I think the problem is that there are WAYYY to many starting loactions. Each race and class has there own and then you have the three cont's, its just to much.

This game is just dead for now. Cancel that subscription and play something else for atleast 3months til sony fixes the train wreck that McTool created. My opinion is never play til brad McTool is not anywhere near this game. Either option says don't play now it is too broken.
You are absolutely right - and that is exactly why I cant seem to be able to sell my 50 Sorc/30Disc account now

He payed over 400$ us for his sorc/disc LOL ! nice man - no idea who was in your clan but my chars are on Woefeather and I havnt paid anything close to $400 for an account in any game, for as long as I can recall. I did buy and sell a few WoW accounts back in the day before BC - but paying for a VG account seems just unpleasantly wrong.
I feel the same way and I play on the Florendyl server, which is suppose to be the most populated. For a game that released only a few months ago, this cannot be good for the game. I'll give it a little more time, but I most definately will jump ship for Age of Conan or Warhammer. I'm really much more interested in PvP anyways. True VG does has a pvp server, but it has even less people then Florendyl.
Past: EQ, EQ2, DAoC, SWG, WoW, LotR, VG, WAR, GW, GW2, Rift

It's so great that the company that created it went bankrupt. That's a shining endorsement if I ever heard one!
First off, as far as by lv6 I am sure you will see quite a few people soloing.. and plan to into teens until some good quests and dungeons or tougher areas are really avaliable and grouping is needed (notice this in alot of MMO's.. you can group but since its not totally worthwhile not alot of people do it). Now as far as people on, If you check with /who's there are ALOT less low levels than there used to be.. and the problem is even if there are 50-100 in the 1-10 range or more (which when i check there often is that number).. there are what 12 starting areas or something like that? this seperates people so there are only 5-10 people in alot of the lower lv areas.. some less popular races even fewer. Once you get up into higher lvs (high teens, 20's, 30's) the population defiantly steps up, but still the problem is there is so many areas that are good for lv30's that even with 100 plus people in your lv range.. they isnt enough to fully populate everywhere else, so certain areas pop up as the best places to find groups (CiS and some levels and than Wardship of the sleeping moon seem to be popular on my server - Hilsbury). So even at alot of normal times there are somewhere around 700-1k people or a bit more at peak times on a given server, there is to much content to spread out for that small of a population.
Now SOE may not want to merge servers.. just because that is admitting the game isnt doing as well as they may hope or boast.. but I think they really need to get atleast two servers together to make the population more reasonable in more areas... doubleing hte population would be great! Because atm especialy low lv players just feel like there is noone around. I actualy started up a gnome pscionist yesterday on my server and got into a conversation with the only other new gnome character on at the time. He was new to the game and really wondered if there was more people later on.. and well I think he just felt the game was dead. So sure when he gets into the teens or 20's and people all start to head to similar areas (or atleast consolidate into less areas) he will find more people.. but still not enough and we need people that log into the game to get a good experience from the get go.. something merging servers could help.
So anyways.. I am thinking of starting a post about server merges (or posting on one already up) on the official vanguard site...) because this game really shines and is alot more fun when you can get a good group and start hitting up areas like ksarvi gulch.. Skawlra rock.. Hilsbury Manor, and if we dont get more people on each server (not to mention more new people) you are oging to find more and more people that feel like they have to solo alot more often and miss out on the real content of the game.

Oblivion sounds like a really fun game.
World is very big, makes it feel empty.
Wish Darkfall would release.
No. The game is simply 'very quiet'. And I will add now that I believe the only way down from now is full closure but that with SoE at the helm the game maybe a year to get itself fixed in the SoE All Access Pass hospital ward for sick games.
Anyway for a quick comparison: number of NEW characters this month compared to last (23March to 22April compared to 22April to 21May to be precise) gives:
Level X and above last month previous month
1 48k 93k
5 31k 58k
10 20k 37k
15 13k 23k
20 10k 17k
25 7k 12k
30 6k 9k
35 4k 6k
40 3k 4k
45 2k 2k
50 1k 800 woot!
So basically a months activity across all servers.
Now folks either just play 1 character - or they are altaholics. Either way ... pretty low and this last months activity is down roughly 40-50%. (And no they haven't all been crafting for a month solid or doing diplomacy and as the op demonstrated it doesn't take long for a complete new comer to put several levels under their belt.
There are a few new players on Florendyl, I know from monitoring the regional chat channels. It's definitely harder for new players to find groups than it was at the beginning, but at the early levels it's not all that necessary.

I would be willing to bet this isn't true. In my experience JPR is a windbag; I wouldn't trust anything he says.
"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Correct you areIf you really did buy it and rolled a new toon (sorry, but this place is known as troll city), then this issue is relatively empty newbie zones. The population is very spreadout over a very big world. If you have regionsay turned on, which is the continent channel, the chatter will probably cause you to shut it back off... it's a steady stream. Or, do like I did, and make it it's own chat tab.
Shout is chunk specific and actually covers a fairly small area starter zones.
If you are in Kojan.. well Kojan is unfinished. People level to 10 and hit one of the two main continents. Diplomats return because there are some great diplomacy quest lines in Kojan, but adventurers don't have much to do in Kojan.
Where did you start off at? I can steer you to populated areas if you are interested.

Hats off to you. Very funny.
Glad you enjoyed it. The source is http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/characterSearch.vm tracked over a period of time. Used to be done then Merritt started producing the graphs. I can produce the numbers going back to February - some of which you would be able to check against older posts made by numerous people.
As to what the answer is the bottomline is that would be speculation. There may be folks who signed up for 6 months who no longer play.
However if you want me to give you a speculative answer hmm... OK this is part what we know and part speculation.
There is more than one way to spin the figure but if we assume that getting to level 15 suggests an actual player than that is 13k at 1 character per players rom scratch in a whole month of which about 5k - based on the sales data we know - might be new players. With this sort of active population the servers should be on low population status ... they are.
Now the 5k new players is speculation and may be overly optimistic: Mid-Feb Brad said c. 155k sales (known), 3 months later 200k (known, SoE press release). So that is an extra 45k in 3 months. March US box sales 13k (known) to which there are direct downloads and European sales (unknown) although I have seen 17k mentioned. We also know that sales have been dropping so less sold in March than Feb, less in April and less again in May (sales chart figures have backed this up). So the 45k has to be front loaded somehow respecting the March figure we know. So speculation here: around 25k mid-Feb to mid March, 15k mid March-mid April and 5k since. Total 45k.
The other bit of speculation is what constitutes a player. How hard / slow is it to level. If you play once a week for a month from scratch - so a maximum of 4 sessions - can you get a character to level 15?
Anyway this 'answer' is speculation and as I said now that the game is on SoE life support it doesn't really matter.

If I do a search of people in my level range and it returns 50 people that I could potentially play with, should I care about what the overall numbers are. Especially if I'm not going to play with the very vast magority of them. I understand that numbers matter becuase, after all, it is an MMO and it takes subs to keep going, but...
When I play there are always others around, just not nearby.
Still a funny post IMO.
