Do you have to be really stupid to be an Eve Online GM?

It would seem like it. Taken from the official boards and reposted here for posterity

After some smacktalking with ginger magician in thelan local. Me (gladstone gander) and a corpmate got banned for smacktalking. To be honest, we used insulting words.



this was the "warning":



You have been gagged by GM Icini until 2007.05.21 14:21:32. GM Icini's reason was: HI, I am Miz the good goddess. I was sent in order to remind you that you should be always friendly to your fellow players. So please, obey my advice and remain politely. Kiss Miz ;) (Offensive language in local Chat).





It seems that "Miz Cenuij", the OCtober Snow corp Nyx pilot is the GM who banned me for this.

This might be reason as well why ginger always got his carriers and vindicators back after he lost them.

I smell corruption here and i hope there are more people here who knows about this problem.

    I'm really not sure how you made the link from being temporarily banned for violating the chat rules over to saying the GM is stupid (why? for doing their job?  Enforcing the rules you broke?) and saying that somehow this implies the GM is helping another player cheat somehow.

    Hmm.. yes, should probably be "remain polite", and not "remain politely", but to be so nitpicky as to call the GM stupid over it...

    Or what do you mean? I can't spot anything else wrong.

    One of the first questions on the EvE GM application is,  "What is your IQ?". Anyone that answers with a number above 80 is immediately denied. Answering with a Question mark or any form of gibberish will guarantee you the position.

    Hmm, to the first 2 responses, I would point at the topic, because you apparently lack the IQ to READ the reply sent by the GM ICINI.  The GM used its character name in replying not his GM name.



    I only read through it one time and caught the GM's mistake.  Maybe you should read it again a few times.

    I think the OP is trying to say that he/she thinks that the player in question is in kahoots with the GM insofar as getting ships returned to them after an incident.

    Taken by itself really wouldn't be all that thought provoking, but when you take in to consideration the cheating and exploiting that CCP's staff has engaged in recently, and probably since the game's inception, it holds alittle more water.

    Just be prepared for the flood gate of angry EvE fanbois that will come rushing in to try and insult you and belittle you. Anytime anyone posts negative stuff about EvE they come in droves.

    Even when it was public knowledge that the CCP staff engaged in helping out their corp, the EvEbois came flooding in to defend the game and say how the cheating "didn't affect them".

    I don't  know if it's true or not, but you shouldn't let beligerent people like that person with the screaming wtf cat for a forum avatar deter you from looking into and investigating the situation.

    i would be inclined to agree with the OP, IF, and only if he was smacktalking with Miz Cenuij and got that message. Anything besides that and it pure speculation on which of the more and likely many MIz character that it may be referencing to. As the rest is based off that speculation I'd have to suggest some tinfoil headwear.

    And this is based on what? One incident that happened over 9 months ago now? If you have some proof of the wide spread CCP/GM exploiting and cheating other than this one incident please post the links as I'm sure we would all like to read what your basing your claims on.



    To the original poster......It sounds like they did have just cause to ban you if you were warned and continued to use profanity in open chat. If you think you were wronged however you should look into it more closely. Even if the GM in question is helping this other player with ships and stuff I really don't see the connection to you being banned for abusing chat though unless there is more to it then you mentioned in your post.

    "Miz" is a very common tag or name used in general, as it pronounces like "miss". In eve there are about 25 char with that in the beginning of their name. For your benefit I checked, as I had to change skills anyway  

    It seems to me as a joke, and although some would find that inappropiate, it's not stupid.

    But I can hand out a few tinfoil hats to yall.

    It would be above 250 that start with Miz about 20 that are Miz space then an additional name. Also a thread has been posed by the head of Internal affairs saying that the GM in question has no relationship to those characters, though was repromanded for the unprofessional behavior.

    Err yea first of all using bad language in a public channel is a bad idea. Also Miz is not a charecter name its a slang version of Miss.

    I do feel tho the body of text explaining things was a bit unprofessionall tho, appart from that tho isee nothing wrong here.

    At least this GMs do their job. Her/his english might not be perfect, but that doesn't mean she/he is unfair. The worst GMs I have encounter are in SWG. You put in a ticket (that would be like a petition here) and they tell you that they are looking into the matter and that they will ban you if you report it again. The problem was never solved, many bugs that i ever reported back then are still there. I even remember several occasions were friends asked about features in the game, and GMs answered with something completely wrong



    If you think their act is wrongful petition it, they will look on the matter and solve it. If you were really cursing on local, then accept your punishment and see you later man.



    I don't have a personal experience with GMs in EVE, never had an issue that big I guess. However, a couple of friends have had. They have been positive experiences.



    On one occasion they took their sweet time, but they finally fix it. Took them 10 months. My friend and I started the game together. Then when I took my break, she took one also, but she canceled the account. Then she came back to the game and her account was empty, no characters. She petitioned it and they told her they would look into it. So she made another character. 10 months later they tell her that she can recover her character. And she says she has a new one. So they tell her that they can merge the abilities of the old one with the new one. Taking the higher level of skill into the equation instead of adding them up. Example, If Old character had Industry 3 and New character has industry 1, then the ultimate character will have Industry 3. Now she has a character that is 2 month old with  6 mill sp. lol

    Assuming these allegations are true, I find it odd that a male character would refer to himself as a "goddess"...

    Lets run 'miz' through Google to see what we get: 4 million 100 thousand results, including a WWE wrestler, a (female) Japanese pop star, and an evil spirit from Enochian magic.

    But of course the GM was not trying to make a joke in some obscure reference but was actually so stupid as to reveal his player identity in such a blatant manner, and of course the parties making the claim all love Miz Cenuij and have nothing against him. Obviously, this is a conspiracy on the highest levels and the EVE community has done a great service by bringing this crucial information to everyone's attention.

    Yes, I agree that the GM's actions are often inconsistent and that CCP needs to seriously restructure their GM policies. That is one of the good things that this event has brought into discussion. But really, this whole event is being blown out of proportion. The arguments are weak and the implications (Miz is a cheating GM) a petty attack on the character.

    i can say I noticed Miz in local in a sys Ginger used to be a fixture in this Miz was same Miz that was a member of mOo and think for a period went non pirate and was in my alliance and has been long know to be a GM



    however if the Miz did this as a GM it should have posted in chan in the GM color which lets you know its a GM -forget what color it is



    and Ginger must be getting old  back in the day ( I had to transit the sys he hung in to get my ice mining result to empire space to sell -Hagilur ) he claimed to go months without losing ships



    we even used to chat a bit in local I always wanted him to know another indy load has gotten thru his midst dontcha know
