3rd To combat the 'Jedi' problem, make Hybrid classes. What i mean to say is say Carbineer/Cm or Bh/Pistoleer or whatever the combo is, you should continue to get better. You master your temp in days or weeks or whatever but never get better than what you are? Doesnt make sense to me. Especially since it was so easy to get to full temp solo. Force Rank System improved Jedi, there should be more to improve the other classes.
4 Do something with Jtl, steal people away from eve or something and improve that whole aspect.
At this point a classic SWG would only work for the short term imo. Would be like a visit to the old neighbourhood. Its time for Lucas Arts to start work on SWG 2. Add the old sandbox game we loved, the skills, the crafting, the entertainers, and much more content and many will be back. Also add in more dedicated support to continue the game like EQ2 or WoW.
Personally I am soooo sick of the fantasy genre. Would love to have a great space game to play in. Start Trek and Stargate are the only ones in the picture at the moment. Would prefer Star Wars any day.
They won't work on a SWG2, what the hell are you guys smoking?
Ya lets make a sequel on the MMORPG SWG that flopped, ya good idea, we will be rich!!!!

if SOE isnt working on it, most people wouldnt be so preturbed at the notion of another SWG2. what to do you guys think?? IF SOE wasnt at all involved, and perhaps a good developer like BIOWARE, or ATARI, or PERPETUAL ENTERTAINENTS would u come back? cant think of any otehr developers its 240 am,. just a thoght htough. hell even a KOTOR MMO lol just as long SOE isnt handling the development nor the server/hosting

Only problem about swgemu is it's been going on for the longest time and designed by amateurs and they still have only been able to make it so you can chat and walk around. Yes they recently showed the movie of some pvp and vehicle riding but has yet to actually been published which leaves me skeptical as if they actually did it or loaded up SWG and film from there. We'll see I guess.

What I think would save SWG would be a complete redo/remake of the entire game. I mean every thing from the way that combat is done from the the time line that its based in. How about a time line where Luke Skywalker is the only true jedi master and he is training all the other new commer Jedi like it is in the books. I mean that would explain all the jedi that are running around on the game any way would'nt it?
Lucasarts to take away their licence to host it (since they own the SW name) and give it to a company who has a clue. SWG will only continue to die in SOE's hands.
The last time I played SWG (around a year ago) it felt like a VERY poorly done WoW knock-off, obviously SOE has some crazy idea that: if copy WoW = customers.
Even during the preCU SWG was headed away from the game I would play. To get me back they would have to dedicate a server to Raph's vision of the game. By dedicate, I mean stick with that vision no matter what. That means staying with TEFs. That means staying with crappy loot, staying with a crafting based economy. That means AFK is not a valid playstyle. That means forced down time and forced interaction between different types of play styles. That means staying with a single character server. Go back to the launch day code and start from there. No patching in workarounds for Raph's down time. No adding in uber loot. No adding in jedi and holocrons that tell you how to become a jedi at the expense of your preferred playstyle.

It's not for everyone, but EVE is a good alternative if you like the concept, I know I really enjoy it. As far as SWG is concerned, I don't think you can "save" SWG. Too many loyal customers were permanently offended by the utter lack of concern for what is best for the community. I think the only way to get back to an SWG type game is to make a sequel, preferably one that SOE has no input or control over. They have showed us clearly what not to do, now lets move forward and make it all that the star wars label deserves. As far as someone's comment about SWG not being popular earlier....I would beg to differ on that point. The game had a very active population and a lot of dynamics that are missing from games still today.
Go vote at the lucasarts poll for the best version of SWG. From 1/30/07 to 2/06/07 they will be conducting a poll to see what version people like the best. If you are a vet of SWG and wanna tell L.A. and SOE that they screwed up, nows your chance. Obviously they are listening now, or want to listen or they would not have posted this poll. Make your voice heard and vote before it's too late.
Goto the link, it's on the right side of the screen. You can only vote once per I.P. address. Spread the word and lets show them how back they screwed the game and us.
As of now, pre-CU is running away with it, and has 77% of the vote so far. YAY!!! Please vote and spread the word. They are listening.

I don't think they're doing a poll based on which "version" of SWG is liked most. It says "Which Star Wars Adventure" then lists all the expansions and the non-expansion base game.
I don't agree that bringing pre-cu back wouldn't do the trick. I can agree that you cant take back the games we have played since swg but that doesn't really have anything to do with saving the game. The population left because the game was changed to a format similar to all those other games we played, against the collective will of the player base, and it hasn't made swg successful. You can say that other "better" games have come out since swg, where "better" is equal to the amount of subscriptions, but I would submit that no game has ever touched its player base the way swg did. SWG was the first mmo that really gave the player complete control over their characters destiny and didn't come with pre-set expectations of what you would do when you logged on. Other games have levels that measure your progress and if you're not at level 99 or 60 or whatever the cap is then you're not l33t and you're a n00b. All those games have one thing thing in common, a rat race to end game where you continue to pay, to wait to pay for new content in the form of expansions. SWG was different in that there was no end game, there was no level to cap at, and there were no stupid things to do, you chose what you wanted to do each time you logged on and just did it. Each profession was important since the economy and all the good in game items were made by the characters, not dropped as uber l33t loot. Everyone from Entertainers to Jedi served an integral purpose in the balance of the game and further more the skill trees made sure that no 2 characters were exactly the same with the same skills and same abilities. Players were asked to choose the skills they wanted to learn and then used those skills in everything from Dancing to PvP. I can remember spending endless time just thinking about what skills my character was going to have to make him just right. Sure this level of detail and customization made swg difficult and not for kiddies or the uninspired, but for those of us that understood its brilliance, swg was the mmo perfection we were waiting for. Compared to WoW or FFXI the mere 300k - 550k subscriptions swg pre-cu could ultimately produce is just a niche market, but before WoW that was considered to be the norm if not pretty dang good.
Thats my two cents in any case. Bring back pre-cu!
There is only us, there is only this. Forget regret, or life is yours to miss. No other road, no other way. No day but today.
I am not too sure if the devs want the game to be saved or not. They are silent, no new plans of reintroduction. No campaign, no excitement, no promise of comeback. Good part is SWG is a lesson written in the history of gaming for anyone to read and learn.
CONTRIBUTE INTO THE GAMING INDUSTRY! STOP PAYING FOR BORING COPYCATS, UNFINISHED BUGFESTS AND CRANKY JUNKWARE. BE A RESPONSIBLE GAMER!
I was one of the first players to get into SWG. It was much anticipated. I played for about five months or so.
The graphics were good and the early character concepts were good. However, the game quickly changed. Here is what I found that finally caused me to quit the game:
1) Player housing and structures were all over the place, turning beautiful worlds into hidious hulks of buildings and smoke.
2) The economy was entirely player driven and early on players with scripts were able to surpass those that did not use these. By the time I was able to build things, they were nearly worthless.
3) The roleplaying element was all but eliminated when they steered more toward a combat only game. Jedis, once rare, are now everywhere. The best elements of Star Wars have been lost.
Just roll with the punches. Sure it was a bum deal back in the day when everythin changed but I just rolled with it.
I had to go away for bout 2 years or so but comin back into this brand new was a challenge all its own. Its still SWG! The flying around was cool and the new stuff. Pretty cool seein all the jedis run around and Restuss is hoppin, sometimes get lucky with an even fight but its awesome watching a guy/gal solo tear the place apart!
If this game is to succeed in my opinion its gonna be a leadership endeavor, not the dev or cs side as much but the player leadership.
I think some additional items in the game could prove useful as well such as the abilitiy to control particular sections of land, kinda like a PVP area for anyone that does not belong there. Im sure you guys can roll with it and come up with something better but interest in real estate as well as leadership to run that real estate are untapped resources here on the pvp scale at least.
Give me my game back. I dont care about swg2 or cunge - its pre cu i want, and there is nothing to discuss with less than that. Nge can never ever be an option for me. Its not on the radar, and will never be. Its no possibility i should even try NGE at this point, no matter what new great enchantments they add (back) to it. I rather live without playing swg and keep my great memories.
What would it take to save SWG? Not a rollback, that's for damn sure. If SOE knows one thing, they know that another drastic change to SWG would cripple the community, (as if it isn't enough already...). If you roll the game back to pre-cu, you're going to have everyone who likes the NGE complaining about changing it back to the NGE. I know this seems crazy, but there are people that like the way the game is now, and vets who like it better than it ever was. Even if they make a rollback possible, all those lost players aren't guaranteed to come back.
What the game needs, is more freedom for the players (what all MMORPG's in general need). These days, I see a lot of people complaining about the present state of the game. I see EVEN MORE people posting new ideas about the game and what new things they would like to see. Because this is the only Star Wars-oriented MMORPG on the market right now, they need to start taking these ideas into account. I want to be able to fly my ship around each world. I want to be able to shoot things while I'm mounted. I want NPC's to actually make me think they have a mind of their own. I want a geniune, true Star Wars experience. And one thing is for certain: I DON'T WANT TO PLAY STAR WARS EPISODE 4-6 EVER AGAIN. It's just been done too many times, and it's getting boring. I don't want to play World of Starwarscraft online either. I want a game that lets me modify the way my house looks. I want a game that lets me modify the way my guns and armor look (to a certain extent obviously). I want my character to be original in it's design to the fullest extent. If I want to crash my speeder into someone to try and take them out, then let me do it.
But don't sit here and tell me I'm going to have less options. Why would I want to play a game that gives me less options, when I can play a game that gives me more options? Screw that. The problem is, that gamers in general (especially the older, adult audience) have played every type of game there is to play. We want something new. We want freedom in video games. We want to be able to do whatever the hell we want to. If SOE gives it's players this option, then they have truly saved the day. But that will never happen, I mean seriously, c'mon. It's SOE man LOL!
I know SOE did some bad things with SWG but I think the major blame lies at the feet of LA. I still hold the EQ2 is a game that started out troubled and has been effectivly patched/fixed and made better.
To fix it now would require major changes. All have been spoken of before but my take is IMHO:
1) Bring back the real professions. The true individuality made the game! A doctor had a purpose out in the field, which was a different purpose then a combat medic which was different from a rifleman etc... I had a full temp Doc but I had a few boxes in pistol. I loved the diverse teams and how they could take out Dragons with different attacks. And leave JTL in. JTL is great, diverse and well worth the effort.
2) Bring back the real professions, part II. Having not just one prof but a combo of one full template with healing or pistol or grenade etc... sub specializations.
3) Let there be true reasons to exist and make my toon something (war and live events). I need a reason to get skills up and not just get them up to be uber. And make the neutral/fringe an actual side in the war!
4) More quests and live events. More than just a couple of archs.
5) Player guilds/towns need help from devs and they need to be important. If I build a town and it serves the needs of the populace make it easy to make it more fun to be in ie shuttle ports, statues etc maybe even crazy big structures when the city becomes ???.
Basically this is a rollback. But make it worth it. I know people who have only known the NGE would be upset but the sheer numbers of preNGE players kind of overwhelm the current player base numbers. I do know many "vets" that have the pass just to play JTL and craft. I would re-up as well as the 20 or so people I know if the older system comes back. I have many people that never played and would love to play for the first time but due to us vets talking it down they never have. In just my sphere of reality there are 30 or so people that would come back or come for the first time. As per jedi well, I holo-ed, villaged and unlocked. I dont think Jedi should be a starter at all. Make us work for it. It is by far more rewarding to unlock then grind up. I dont think the hologrind should come back the village made more sense (but with bigger better MUCH better quests), and maybe a longer line to unlock force sensitive!
I believe if they bring back all the non cookie cutter crud the people will come back. It only makes sense wow 300k or more to 50k. Dont they want our money? Is not the obvious tanking proof of what works and what does not? I hope the egos of the SWG team SOE/LA does not let this sleeping giant die.
SWG isn't doing that badly nowadays. It's showing slow but steady growth with the NGE.
No roll back or classic servers are needed, period.
So does SWG need saving? Only the people that don't play the game think so, lol.
And as a personal note, getting groups nowadays is both easierand you end up with a lot more pleasant companions. Seems to me that the people that have recent joined the game, or the remaining vets are pretty much the cream of gaming world.
You ever see the types of attitudes that are so present in the SWG Refuge area? Overall the departure of the disgruntled vets was a very positive thing for SWG!

Having not just one prof but a combo of one full template with healing or pistol or grenade etc... sub specializations. More effort to eliminate the end game is always a plus. Someone could play for 6 months with their favorite template then get bored with it. That isn't the end of their character though; and letting a player know that life goes on after being a ruthless bounty hunter makes them stick around that much longer. Or in a SOE developer's words, "we get more money". 3) Let there be true reasons to exist and make my toon something (war and live events). I need a reason to get skills up and not just get them up to be uber. And make the neutral/fringe an actual side in the war! That's what players should be doing in MMORPG's; existing. Unfortunately no one has made the type of game that allows for us to do this yet. It all goes back to eliminating the end game. A third faction would be a welcome addition to the game and would take it in many different directions. Kudos. 4) More quests and live events. More than just a couple of archs. Yep. 5) Player guilds/towns need help from devs and they need to be important. If I build a town and it serves the needs of the populace make it easy to make it more fun to be in ie shuttle ports, statues etc maybe even crazy big structures when the city becomes ???. I always thought it would be awesome if you could pave your city and add gigantic structures like in Coronet or Theed. I'm sure that alone would attract more than a few players. I dont think the hologrind should come back the village made more sense (but with bigger better MUCH better quests), and maybe a longer line to unlock force sensitive! I think unlocking Jedi was a great way to go. After you've been playing so long, you finally figure out the secrets of the Force. But it shouldn't end there. If you can unlock Jedi, why can't you unlock other elite professions as well? There should be more "secrets" like this in MMORPG's to unlock. Keep it a mystery, it keeps the people's interest. AND when they get there, they feel they have accomplished something. Just don't make it a "grind", find a more creative way. Hope in me springs semi-eternal MMORPG's will get there, but it's going to take some work on the developer's part to help achieve the vision that ol' Kosten has been talking about for years.
