mmo for a casual player

hi everybody... I'm having a problem; now I'm playing WoW and I really love this game, but I'm looking for something more casual, so that's the question... wich is the best mmo game for a casual player like me?

If I were you I'd check out the free to play games or try out LoTRO!

Yes I would have to agree that of all the MMOs to come out recently LotRO is the most casual. It has a very easy going EXP grind that is mostly quest based and no real player competition for uber gear so it's quite laid back. It is very much like WoW also in the basic game mechanics so you should pick up how to play right out of the gate.

TBH all mmorpg are casual .It is the attitude to them thats important.

I recall EQ1 .I knew people who took 2 years to hit 60.But they played casually and had fun doing it and never complained about the learning curve.

Falath, I did this same search a little over 2 months ago...I only get about 4-6 hours a week to play, so I wanted something that I could actually accomplish something in 60-90 minute sessions....sometimes even less than that.

I need to preface this opinion by saying I was...and am...very tired of the 'fantasy' genre, so I went hunting for something Sci-fi.  I tried SWG...blah.  I gave City of Heroes a look...not a big comic fan so I grew tired of it after the 'character creation' screen.

So, against the popular advice of my fellow gamers...here, and in other forums...I went over to FilePlanet and downloaded the 14-day trial of Auto Assault.  It was the BEST gaming decision I've made in a long time.  Still, I think it's only fair that I warn you of a few common complaints...because if you haven't seen them in other places...you'll be sure to see them once the "flamers" get a hold of my response here:

    1.  low population.  Yep.  No denial.  Thing is, I've had more players offering me help and Clan invites than in any other game I've played.  Community is mostly mature (Human faction can be a bit "iffy"), and there are enough newcomers on the trial to make things interesting.

    2.   bugs, bugs, bugs.  Used to be...like crazy.  But after 4 free updates, things have gone very smooth...no problems in my first 2 1/2 months.

    3.  You're a "car".  Right.  True.  It takes a special kind of player to "get over" the fact that he won't see many large, heaving breasts dancing around in Goldshire.  Not that I'm against large heaving breasts, I just don't need them in my games in order for them to be fun.

    4.  Game is repetitive.  This is a problem for all MMO's I've played.  At least there are NO RATS or BOARS!!!

    5.  game is dead or about to die.  Paaalllleeeeezzze!  Take a looksy at the official forums...or better yet, hop over to WarCry's Auto Assault page.  The next update is right around the corner...the last one was released on March 1.  NetDevil has a good history of keeping lower population MMO's operating (i.e. Jumpgate).

Well, I gotta run.  Seriously Falath, do yourself a favor...give this game 14 days to see if it can capture you the way it did me.

Guild Wars is a pretty cool game for a casual player.

And it offers good diversity after WoW

    ^ ya...Guildwars...hands down

    no monthly fee.

enough content for a player to keep busy for a while...it has 2 expansion paks so you can 'add' to what you have accomplished.

Game can be played casually on any level...solo or with others. you WILL need others for many quests/areas but that isnt too much of a problem in a game like Guldwars.

Nice graphics....can be handled by most any computer and card out there.

Only one problem though. If you get dizzy from watching spam go up the screen, then you better take some "Motion sickness' pills hehe.....the main city(ies) in the game have a bad spam problem...everyone and their sister wants to sell or buy everything from a Slice of Toast to a shoelace....and Guildwars only gives you limited options and channels to do this 'trading' in.

take your eyes from the screen for one second...and you may miss that battleaxe you have been looking for, as 50 more "WTS my Toenails!!!!" spam lines fly up the screen in a mere 3 milliseconds , mhehe.

but overall..a very fun game...easy pick-up and play

and the emote dances are funny;)!

I'd recommend City of Heroes/Villains for casual gamers who don't mind paying a monthly fee.  I know many people who previously would not touch an MMORPG with a ten-foot pole, but now play CoX.

    The reasons?

    1. Solo- or duo-friendly (missions are scaled to team size).
    2. Most missions don't take too long.
    3. There are a lot of power combinations, meaning many alts can offer different diversions.
    4. Crafting and loot are not required to be successful and advance, beyond the relatively straightfoward slotting of enhancements.
    5. Advertising yourself as available to team is easy and will generally get you invites fairly quickly.

In general, I'd avoid PvP-oriented MMORPGs if you are a casual gamer...IMO, a better casual PvP experience is found in Battlefield-style games or Counterstrike or something, as long as you can get an appropriate skill match.

Casual? Word means ability do something when You have very little time?

So that would be ability solo and/or have groups fast. Doing quest what doesn't last too long.

City of Heroes, does have these, but ability get team fast there is a player skill, because it requires player it self to be active. But You can solo anytime and do missions what last between 10min to 1 hour. Grid isn't hardest, but it's not the easyest, so don't wait to be top levels in a few month with casual playing.
