I think I'm going to jail...help please?

So I was feelin it and was looking for pron, since the site I go to for it wouldn't work for me...so I go 13 pages into google looking for a good site and I think I found one...I clicked it and it was all kiddy stuff and I immediately closed it. I was never so disgusted...about 5min later I get this message that says "We have tracked your I.P and we will be coming to investigate your house." then when I tried closing it, 4 more come up just like it. Its gone now but I'm scared as heck.

Any help please? I didn't mean to click on that really really awful site...any advice on what to do? I don't wanna go to jail...

Well if you're on a government owned computer, you're screwed. If not, scan your computer for spyware/adware, then go about like it never happened.
  • DraenorDraenor Member UncommonPosts: 7,918

I'm pretty sure when they track down perverts they look for patterns of chronic child porn viewing...and what you described sounds more like adware than any kind of governmental organization tracking what you do on the internet.  Run a virus scan and all of that good stuff...make sure you didn't get your pc accidentally infected.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

HAHA... nothing is going to happen.  If you are that paranoid, get a program like CCleaner that overwrites deleted files like 7 times.

It is just some shady site that is trying to get you to download some program infested with malicious software.

its my home PC. I'll scan it with my virus/spyware protection I have, I hope thats all it is.

This just goes to show you:

Don't search for porn on Google.

...wait, that was the lesson right?

Why would the government tell you that they tracked your IP and give you the chance to flee?

It's just spyware, dude. Even if the government was watching, they probably wouldn't be able to arrest you because it was just one time and they'd never be able to hold any charge in court with that limited of evidence. And even before that, it was just one time... How many people out there do it hundreds or thousands of times and don't get caught?

Unless it was at work, you have nothing to worry about... Just get some spyware/adware/virus removing programs, or maybe just go for a full reformat... it probably could use it.

  • Probably some website having fun with you. I don't think they come after people for accidently clicking a website. Just make sure it didn't put any malicious software or pictures on your computer.
  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,409

The Feds don't flash pop ups on your rig if they bust you for kiddie porn, and they wouldn't bust you for going to a site once for 5 seconds.

Otherwise there'd be a metric shitload of otherwise innocent people that got redirected to kiddie porn sites for being naive enough to click a link about cancer research, or somesuch.

Just run a spyware/malware check, and a virus scan to be safe as others said, and go about your life.

However, your personal information is probably now on any number of databases as a potential pedo. I'd keep my nose clean if I were you.

If you work for the government and are caught viewing, not accidentally stumbling on, pornography of any type, you will lose your job.

Nah, the goverment don't do things like that man and not only that if it is on accident it's not enough evidence to charge you. Just someone trying to spook you. Also the government don't do things like that. They will suprise you. I made topic once about a friend of mine who brought a TV off the net that was claimed as stolen, yet 7 days later he was stung with 7 cop cars around his house and he was in jail for a month and had to pay a fine. His PC was conficated and all his hacking tools (mainly for MMO's) and all his illegal stuff conficated. He can't download anything illegal for a year (yet he has a 2nd harddrive so they can't track him). Goverment/Po-Po will never tell you things like that. Just some dumb ad.

It's true. The government will never go "Ah hah! We caught you!" Most people didn't see the humor in my post. Why would anyone be on MMORPG while at work on a government computer, especially looking up porn? I can see why they would want to, but that's irrelevant. The fact is that if you are using a government owned computer in a government owned facility looking up porn, you will lose your job. I was not claiming this guy was doing just that but was refuting a previous post that said looking up porn on a gov't comp wouldn't do you harm.

I do not agree with pron or kiddy pron at that. However being an ex skip tracer and having connections in law enforcement I can tell you guys something most people dont know.

Anything on a computer is automatically considered circumstantial evidence. They can not and will not prosecute someone based solely on evidence found on that person's computer. Because the simple argument is "I didnt know it was on there." and its a valid argument. There are people out there who have absolutely no idea whats on their machines and its quite easy for some less reputable person to put bad stuff on another's machine without the person knowing it.

Case in point. A guy was arrested and his computer seized. On his computer was literally tons of kiddy pron. However because no other evidence was found in his home or other places to support the evidence on the computer he was released. Luckily he was picked up again later when a video turned up that he was in with a young boy and that sicko is now in prison.

Now this doesnt mean you can go do what you want no matter what just keep it on the computer. Because law enforcement can and usually will find other evidence you didnt even know about to support a case against you. And in some sad cases if they will find other evidence even if it isnt there. If you get my meaning.

Another case in point was a guy arrested and computer seized as well. However this case was different has he also had a digital camera with pics on it he hadnt uploaded to his computer yet. So he is in prison now as well.

Might want to check out Cyber Scrub: www.cyberscrub.com/products/privacysuite/index.php

I found myself in a similar situation once and have been very happy with this product. With it you can erase files from your computer to such a degree that recovery might as well be labelled 'impossible'. Waaay beyond Department of Defense standards.

check your temp folder too see if there are any images there,or erase your hard disk to be sure if you are that scared.
  • ZikielZikiel Member Posts: 1,138
Deleting your temp folders, cookies, history, etc, is a good start, checking your Add/remove programs tab for anything strange might help, I remember I had Elitum adware before, it was in there. A virus scan is a must. And really now, surely you can find some free stuff?

    He is absolutely correct.

The concurrent elements the DA must prove:  (1) voluntary physical act and (2) requisite mental state.

You obviously involuntarily visited this web page.

The mental state is often even more (but sometimes less) challenging:  purposely, knowingly, recklessly, or negligently.  Negligently is judged by an objective standard, by the way.

E.g., your credit card information on a bona fide child pornography web page fulfills intent.  Edit:  not purposely, not recklessly, not knowingly, not negligently visiting an "illegal" web page is not intent.

OP, you really need to relax.

You're right, it must have been spyware...when I scanned my pc I had about 100 spyware found while it scanned overnight. I thought the police were really gonna come after me. I still get the same popup so after cleaning my pc, I might have to reinstall my pc to get rid of all of this.

I know it isn't free, but there's a whole world of print porn out there, probably at a convenience store near you, that won't infect your computer with anything... and it is portable to the bathroom, the bedroom, even your car!

(EDIT: You wouldn't believe how many times I have had to fix/clean up not only my husband's home computer, but his ex-boss' WORK computer because they just can't resist FREE PRON. It's so sad. This is the same advice I give them.)
