So my brother and I both have been playing UO since 1999. Of course many of times we quit then came back (x4). We are here again, waiting for the graphic expansion just to see what it's like.
We were dueling a couple nights ago. My brother is a Paladin and I'm a mage. We dueled 9 times. 2 out of that 9, he won...hitting me twice with his axe killing me. The other 7 times, I murdered him with an Explosion and Flamestrike attack. Killing him in 2 hits. I just play smarter I guess. Well, then my brother goes out and finds a set of armor that gives him this.
Ok...what the fuck? Now I hit him with Explosion and Flamestrick and I only do a total of 35 damage, compared to my 1xx damage combo. I'm a GM mage. I understand how he resists, but what makes me mad is how I am a dominator one day, then the next day I'm basically SHIT compared to what I used to be. Now he dominates me. This just pisses me off. UO used to be TOTALLY about skills. If you were good, you were good. Now, all you have to do to be good is get some money and buy a million dollar set of armor. Plus, from the looks of it, I guess mages can also become tanks. This is why uo just isn't uo anymore. I miss the days where if you raises in magic resist, then you had decent resist against mages. Now, resist only covers a small proportion of useless spells, while armor does the rest.
After I saw this set of armor that he had and how much it bascially nerfed my ass, I just logged off and got on WoW. This is not the UO I used to love....this is the reason why PvP in UO now sucks and this is why UO does not stick out from the rest of the games. The only thing UO has above other games is the customization of skills and having houses. Other than that, UO brought itself down to the basic cut of every other MMo out on the market. I want my Vanquishing weapons back!

UO's switch to item-based play from skill-based play was probably the main reason for my FINAL departure from UO (proud to say I've been UO-free for over two years!)
I, too, was a GM mage. Unfortunately, they severely nerfed mages. What once took a couple of electricity noodles to kill started to remain alive even once my mana gone...Lame =P
Whole game has gone down the hill IMO. Thank goodness I got out early.
