i am a SWG pre-Cu fan i want that game back

or at least the system it was using for player interaction... we have all been saying why does no one want to make that sand box skillbox systemlike UO and SWG and go with the class/level cookie cutter? EQ EQ2 WoW etc......?

well this game in development looks really promissing. graphics from what i see from the 5 screenies are awsome, (now to wait for the character models) and they use the you use you gain system like UO. and have same crafting principles as SWG and housing like UO... check out the FAQ and tell me what you think

    No, they haven't done it.

    Take a look at this.

Your post made me think Blizzard or Turbine was making this game, but they don't even have the funds to get started, besides doing some concept art, and a few screens of terrain.

I do wholeheartedly support indie developers, but there's also a certain amount of reality you have to accept when evaluating a website about a game in production.

SRI Interactive haven't done anything yet...and there's a very high probability that kaos wars will never see the light of day.

So...what have they done, besides getting you excited?

I actually like the idea of a skill system when I think about it, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be as popular.  Perhaps people like to be set in their path from the first level and not be generic.  Of course you wont be generic over a long period of time, but you start the exact same as everyone else until you start doing things which will deciede what you will be down the road.  If I ever make a game I'm going to give the skill system a try.  It makes a lot more sense then the class system, but you need to find a way to allow people a feeling that they are progressing.  That ding seems to mean a lot to people.

Right....... it's never going to be SWG :S no game can ever be like SWG cause it was unique and it was sci-fi with the perfect lore : this game just looks like fantasy shit

Perfect lore?  I really wanna hear this expanded on.

    I dont know....

I never seen an Indiependant developer ever make a succesful MMO.  Hell, Brad with 30 million bucks couldnt even do it.  They have more talent and passion than Sigil ever had but I really dont see anything but conceptual screenshots.

And....it's another fantasy MMO ...uuck. (sorry lol, I am seriously burnt out on elves and swords).

Maybe it'll work out. I doubt it tho..but more power to them if they do.

    It's not Pre-cu SWG lol

He was explaining the huge vastness of Lore behind Star Wars versus a whim off the collar lore about a river of energy lore that is so atypical of the fantasy genre nowadays.

I hope it takes off. Though the story line was giving me Anarchy Online's Shadowlands flashbacks.

actually if you read more and check out the concepts arts its not fantasy with elves and druids

and its listed under sci-fi here on mmorpg.com

the way i see it after reading the website and here at mmo its a mix of angels and demons (spears and magic) with humans with armour à la Halo and weapons. also its set in a post apocaliptic world (if you see some of the concept art and wallpapers) there are skyscrapers and cities with buildins etc....

so i dont think its another fantasy

I think that the skill system is what many players prefer as opposed to the class sytem.  But the skill system is much harder to balance and develop.  And I think that the skill system does give a good sense of progression (at least in UO it did to me).  I never got to try SWG but I did play UO for several years.  I highly prefer the skill system to the class system and hope that big MMO companies start moving in a different direction, which does seem to be happening, even if only a little.

I believe class systems have had more mass appeal so far.  If you look at the games doing the best money wise they are class based games.  UO was the first MMO out there and once EQ came along a lot of people jumped ship to it including myself.  SWG didn't have mass appeal despite the tuns of Star Wars fans out there.  I am deffinatly swaying in favor of skill systems myself though since it seems to be a big topic here and a lot of people have said many things about it.  I like the idea of gainning your class from what you choose to do instead of just picking it at creation.  Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to have mass appeal so far.  Hopefully someone can come up with a way to implement it that will appeal to more people.  Another example of a quasi skill system not working was EQ2.  It started with a archtype system in which you would choose your class as you got higher in level.  Now that they reworked it to have your class from level 1 more people are playing it.

See this does look like a good game.
But dont get your hopes up or your gonna end up like me waiting for Darkfall.
Both games sort of have that cutting edgewhat everyone wants sort of thing, yet it will take a long time to accomplish. So dont get all excited now and realize in 3 years its not gonna work.

On the bright side of things though, lets hope it doesnt end up like Dark and Light eh?

Sorry but this looks like vaporware to me.  Especially any site that asks for "donations" sounds suspicious to me.

I liked  watching the Tech Demo. The sound of the waterfall growing louder and fading as the distance  from it changed was a cool move.  I really liked the swaying grass but the shadows rolling across the ground , supposedly from clouds I believe, were to regimented . Though this demo is probably more of a trailer than of actual future game play.

I wish them luck. Indie's always have better ideas than the stuck in a rut big bucks major games companies. At least thats how I view it.

    I didn't know mmorpg.com got to decide what's fantasy and what's sci-fi.

Look, it has angels, demons, a river of energy that grants life across the planes of existance. I'm not more qualified to define sci-fi/fantasy than this site, but this sounds much more like fantasy. Maybe not an orcs and elves fantasy, but it's still fantasy. For instance they use the word "planes" like the fantasy RPG Planescape, not "universes" or "realties". Most fantasy use the former term and most sci-fi uses the later terms. (Unless they're talking about higher planes of existance, but this game seemed to be using planes to mean different universes.)

I've got a lot of faith in this game

No really, MMO's made by unemployed clowns that have had their wife and kid leave them will be springing to life all over. You can smell the success from here.

Well, ok, maybe that's not success I smell. I do live kinda close to the slaughterhouse. Maybe that's what I'm smelling.

I hope this game takes off. The last indie i followed failed. In case you guys know it, it was called SEED. Great ideas but had lack of funding if im correct.
