Tabula Rasa: Report From the Front

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

A Beta tester for Tabula Rasa recently wrote a report on his encounters upon arriving at the front lines. He details the first few missions, mentions some of his gear, and discovers how ducking behind cover helps to keep you out of the medic tent.

A new AFS recruit blogs about his first day fighting for humanity:

I landed in the midst of mayhem; an outpost of sorts but with the enemy clearly seen lurking the borders, just beyond firing range. All my gear was new and took a little getting used so I went through my normal maneuvers and found that operations were pretty much standard with gear on other worlds. I talked to a few soldiers standing around and gleaned some information regarding my gear and ops.

Across the camp I noticed what looked like a commanding officer and saluted requesting permission to engage the enemy. He shoved me out a bit and two of the most hideous things I have seen in a while (other than my mother-in-law's toes) jumped out and me and I fumbled a little with my SI (standard issue) pistol but managed to dispatch them. Too bad it isn't as easy with my mother-in-law.

After dispatching the uglies, I reported back to my CO. He gave me some nice gear and a small promotion I was then instructed to blow some wreckage out of our approach and complied. Once again I was rewarded. Hey this was getting good! I now had a rifle!

    Well................

Even though it still sounds like the basic quest and level treadmill to get the next cookie game, at least it looks to be a refreshing change from the standard sword and sorcery fare that we have been inundated with up to this point.

I have sworn off of level based grind games however this title might just prove to be too tempting to ignore.

It seems like the developers are concentrating on making this game fun. It looks fast paced and not so caught up in the kill x amount of creatures for a piece of armour. I am looking forward to trying this game.

It certainly sounds worth a go.   I can only hope my beta request gets looked into.  I love trying to break a game

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

    Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW

i agree im so feed up with sword and elves and dragons and other medieval crap im gonna puke. what this genre needs is a goood cyber punk MMO or a SCI fi based MMO that is both unique in gameplay, and highly engaging in both quests/story-plot arcs and pvp interactions.

I am with you here, elves and orcs are way too common now. I wouldn't mind seeing a Shadow Run or a Fallout MMO. :D

All that aside, I am still eager to receive my beta invite. :P
