I was looking forward to WoW as much as the next blizzard junkie until i saw this pic.

Look at that pic n tell me it aint a cartoon.

Im sorry but now i got my sights on EQ2.

Im not all about gfx but its gonna be hard for me to get emmersed in a world full of cartoony green slime.

I don't consider myself a "rude" person usually but I feel that this time I must make an exception.

Good riddance. The less WoW sees players like you, the better it will be.

I think it's stupid for a dev team to try and make their game look "realistic". Whatever suits the theme and the concept best is the right way to go.

I want to play WoW on the graphics side because it does look cartoony. Everyone keeps talking about how they don't want 24 hour days or rest system because it is too realistic. I don't want a fantasy game that looks realistic. A space one is fine to a degree but I want the bright colors and cartoony like figures in fantasy.

It's not the graphics thats the problem, it's the battle-style, try and watch the trailer from E3 and see how incredibly doll it looks.

Anyway, I'll find out when they launch open beta.

What did you expect? Warcraft has ALWAYS had a very set style for their imagery. Did you ever even play any of the warcraft games, are you a warcraft fan or just looking for a new EQ?

The graphics are astounding and yes they are a cartoon. Is everyone's real life that miserable anymore that they go online to find realism?

Ive only played bits of WC & WC3 but i enjoyed it, I dont really know the Storyline but i read in the Forums you dont need to know any thing about it to play WoW.

The look and feel (From Movies Ive Seen) of WoW is awesome, It is so much better than EQ and im not sure about EQ2 but i seen the EQ2 movies and they didnt really impress me at all, Were as the WoW movies nearlly made me fall off my seat!!!

The Artwork that has gone into WoW is just amazing, a lot of blood sweet & tears has gone into it - Gradtz Blizzard on the great Job!

P.S.

Im getting sick of hearing all the Forums Saying WoW vs EQ2 - people have different taste about games and my tastes seem to Favour Blizzards WOW.

Plus im a Die Hard SC and Diablo & D2 fan.

hehe, I STILL play Star Craft with one of my buddies. I am DIEING for them to come out with SC II, and I was hot when I heard SC Ghost was xbox and another game system only and would not be developed for the PC.

- Never did try EQ, so no. And this is a MMORPG not RTS,(LMAO) you can't compare them the slightest. In RTS you didn't just sit there and "watch/wait"! untill your enemy was defeated, this sure as hell seems like it, and in the most doll way I've seen so far in a mmorpg.

Can't compare it because its an MMORG and not and RTS? That statement has no basis what so ever in regard to the topic at hand. The warcraft storyline has been building for years. Are you saying they should make a game that doesnt follow the look and feel of warcraft whatsoever but put the warcraft label on it just to sell it? I am sorry, your little LMAO there at the end shows no thought whatsoever on what you commented on. If blizzard did anything less then they did and made warcraft look like anything else BUT warcraft I would have been extremely let down. The very first thing I noted when I looked at the first posted screen shots of the game was rejoice in the fact that they kept it the same.

As for your last little shot about don't be so hard on yourself, that was just a rather childish shot that I am not even going to get into, I am here to discuss the game. My point was clear, and not directed at any one single person. My first notion about World of Warcraft was that it was not for me. The graphics, which look dated already, and the art design are just not what I am looking for in a mmorpg. This was my first notion.

I haven't played the game, so I don't know how good or bad it is. One thing that nobody can really argue with though, is that appearances mean a lot. When you see someone you think is ugly, do you want to hook up with them. Maybe if you've had way too many beers, but otherwise, appearances count for a great deal initially.

So looking at World of Warcraft and Everquest II, there is no doubt in my mind that EQ II is more pleasing to me as far as graphics and art design. I haven't played that game either.

So when the 2 games are released, I would be more inclined to get EQ II first and try it out, and even though graphics alone are just one aspect of what makes a game great, there are many more. So I will try World of Warcraft, too, but the other aspects of that game better really be great to make up for the silly, cartoonish art.

On the other hand, when I try EQ II, the gameplay and other features better be great or what good is a pretty looking game?

The whole arguement is kind of pointless, the graphics and art are a matter of opinion.

i dont see many peoples reasoning... sure a good looking game is great, but decent it all i need... sure EQ2 looks amazing.. you start to play and realise that all the childish of EQ players are there whining cause its so different, and then the gameplay may suck(im just saying, i have no clue if it will be this way).. every passes over WoW with the cartoonish graphics(which you mispelled cartoon in the topic title), people never know WoW may have extremely better gameplay than EQ2... you never know, even then the super awesome graphics of EQ2 can only be utilitized by the highest on the top of the line computers, so on your machine you may have it toned down to where it looks almost like WoW graphics...

im just saying graphics really mean nothing at all...

- Alright, I'm sorry but I have to do it again (LMAO) Are you totally short sighted? It has absolutely nothing to do with the freaking storyline over the years, where the hell do you get that crap from?
It worked for a RTSg BECAUSE ITS A RTS, it doesn't matter because you have to control your units/base, but they way they have made the melee-battle-style is horrible and looks boring.
Did you even bother wathing the E3 Ingame-Trailer?

the graphics may look cartoony but they look cool, and WoWs style of fantasy beats all the others......the cities and charcters look cool ass hell

OH and its really sad that you would change your mind because of one pic, and if u really were blizzard junky u would want to go into the WoW nomatter what graphics it has

First, having have played beta 2 I can say that the games graphics are PERFECT. They fit the style of the warcraft universe dead on. The engine is superb, the world is hand crated/created and everything is highly detailed. If you dont like the style of WoW, move on. Play lineage 2 or something. This game isnt about creating a realistic looking world. Its a pure fantasy game in a pure fantasy setting.

As for combat, the reason it looks stale in the E3 movies is because there are NO combat moves being performed. Not sure why they video taped such stale action scenes, but when you actually play the game its quite different. You end up using quite a lot of spells and abilities along with the regular swings of your weapon, just like in DAoC, so combat is neither dull or boring.

And for you numbnuts, a screenshot doesnt make a game. A million screenshots dont make a game. The GAMEPLAY makes the game. WoW looks, feels and performs admirably. The game is a ton of fun and THAT is what counts, not some screenshot!

Ashanor, those are some pretty cool pictures. They really show how cool the art-style can be and how different it can make different regions look.

I read the first page of replies, then quickly realized this is yet another thread gone EQ vs WoW, and thus gone down the crapper. But in response to YOUR post. The region that screen shot was taken, is the most cartoony of the game, and thus the worse example of the game's art style and graphics. If you kept up to date on the beta forums you would notice the dev team is working to re-do that area. There's a lot of beta testers who are also unhappy with it's "cartoonish" appearance.

So basicaly, even if they DON'T get around to changing it, it's still one area, that you will probably hardly spend any time in that city, unless you're horde. However I'll be playing for the Alliance, so odds are I may never even step foot in there.

My two cents for the EQ2 WoW debate... Just the usual, pure taste, I think EQ's graphics lack any flavor or style, yes they are 'graphicaly' better, but they arn't 'visualy' more appealing. It'd like comparing something in the fine arts museum to a very well done graphical image of a red ball... Graphics do have an impact on appearance, but if the style of those graphics is plain and boring, you might as well be playing the SIMS.
