Firstly, Hi to all who are playing or have tried LOTRO, hope you can help.
Secondly, pls don't reply if you just simply wanna sling abuse- I would like constructive comment.
Thirdly, I am between MMORPGs as I simply cant sink so much time anymore into a certain other large game!! (You know the one).
Is it possible to dip in and out of Lotro, say an hour or 2 here and 40 mins there, without it meaning everyone else lvl's past you and you suffer from not having found or fought for the best equipment??
And is a lack of in game time as much of a disadvantage as it now is in other current MMORPGs??
I guess I'm asking, can you play it and progress without being obsessed - or is it a time sink?? (I really dont have the time)!
Any constructive advise will be most appreciated before I make my decission, so thanks all!

Is it a time sink end game? Like WoW No way but i hear raiding can be a take a little time but nothing like WoW And remember the game has so many quest and leveling is pretty quick.
Hope this helped a little.

If the real question is can you enjoy this came in small chunks and still feel you are making progress, while also having fun, then the answer is definitely yes.
I'm usually an over achiever in MMOs,but I've found this game to be a good antidote to MMO burnout I suffered after 2+ years of WoW. I haven't been obssessed over leveling, in fact I have often chosen to focus on play that was not very XP efficient and focus on other kinds of achievment and having fun.
Much more than any MMO I've played in the past, a casual play schedule is still rewarding. If I only have a half hour to play, I know I can still make productive use of that time. With WoW, for instance, I often felt that it was worthless to log in if I didn't have at least a couple hours to kill.
Most XP here comes from quests, but there are tons of them and the vast majority do not require much time to complete. There is a system of completing "Deeds" for titles and/ or virtues (character enhancement) rewards in the game that is seperate from the XP progression trak. Though these can take some time commitment if you plan of completing a particular deed during one play session, they all easily lend themselves to being worked on a little at a time.
There is depth and content for players who play many hours daily, but it is also very friendly to those with less time on their hands.

I am playing too and imo my playstyle is quite casual and yet i am 5th in our 80person guild. There's plenty of quests around if you choose to solo, there's lot of group -quests if you want to be social and of course there are big timesinks BUT you dont have to do them and i really mean that You can just skip em, delete them from your questbook and move on.
You can spend like 30minutes in game and still being able to finish something, groups are easy to find and equipment really dont mean that much, or atleast decent eq comes as rewards so there's no need to grind money to buy them or you can craft them.
Ask around if someone got buddykey left so you can atleast try it out before buying and happy travels in middle-earth

Thanks soooo much to all of you who took the trouble to answer my plea. Can identify totally with the comments about Burn out and wow- same story here- in the end I just couldn't afford the time to stand still in comparison to my guildies. Nice bunch that they are, so decided to suicide out- but still have a little time I want to spend out of RL. As a result of your feedback which was all positive am going to buy and try it.
Once again thanks- proof positive joining this site was a good idea.
PS- no doubt will be an elf again- lol- just cant help it !
currently due to real life crisis ,I play on and off and have recently hit level 35.I been playing since the first hour of pre main release. Most i met are now 45-50 that play hardcore and the casuals are 30-35.
But I find i meet new players everyday and each time i need a new fellowship ,so yes its cool to play casual. The casual crowd in this game seems to far outnumber hardcore even.
