I can't remember when I wasn't playing games, the first game I ever played was command and conquer and I must have been really young then, seventeen right now and with the Gaming Industry on my horizon in a year I doubt I'll stop I don't think it's all that bad playing MMORPG's when your old, just unusual it just goes to show how much more free time we all have compared people who lived a few decades ago.
Now I've got some lousy Games Design coursework to do *grumble grumble* yes we do written work too ya know!
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
in this day and age, i am 19. i have played alot of games, alot of old machines including the old tv casette players i remember playing an old scrolling army shooting game and always got ran over by a tank. i have played the dragon, sega 6 bit and 16bit i liked to play Edna and Edgar, Alex the Kid, super monaco GP and sonic the hedgehog all series. all around the age of 3-8 i remeber very clearly. i then jumped up a gear and started on the pc then playstation mainly playing v-rally or games like Corridor 7 or doom or even early 3d, quake. i then jumped up more levels playing space games and building games in 1998. i shortly ended my strategy building games like AOE and Cossacks in 2003 and continued on the racing games and space games which are still going strong. in all that time i have estabished Leagues and clans and guilds but i ended them and have not created any since 2004. in 2005 i moved onto bigger MMORPGs i have played Runescape and EQ before, and i ended these game lives in 2003.
in between all that my life has completely changed, at the age of 8 i got my revenge on a bully who was 13 years old himself. at the age of 11 i taught my sister how to ride a bike without the supports, likewise my brother aswell. he age of 15 i finally got my own PC, it was not much but its still alive (800mhz PII, 256mb RAM, 52x CD Rom, 550mb HDD, 8mb Graphics card).

3-11 Kid
12-18 Teenager
19-25 Adult - Young
25-40 Adult - Average
41-60 Adult - Mature
61-80 Adult - Retired
81+ Adult - Secondary
This would of been a good way of doing the poll.
WOW! That would make me mature. I think my wife would strongly disagree with that one!
Oh and to reply to the op when i play mmos i like to be either 30-40 or 9 -13 so i can either vainly try to put people down by questioning their age or i can have an excuse for saying stupid stuff respectively.
I was only 20 when I was introduced to my first graphical MMO (UO).
However, the person who showed me the game and got me into this whole MMO universe was my girlfriend's father, and he was in his 50's at the time. My girlfriend and I have moved on to other games over the years, but he still plays UO.
And trust me, your 20's disappear MUCH faster than your teens. It's freaking scary how fast they go.
I was just thinking the other day, "Why the hell does 'early thirties' sounds so much older that 'late twenties'?".
... you asked 25+ is old? yep it is 25 + = 25 26 27 28 29 30 40 50 60 70 80 90
as far as you old guys getting defensive i know i will be playing games for the rest of my life following some sort of weird cycle from playing as a juvenile to playing senile i will start and end uttering incoherent sentences. I dont actually think there is something wrong with playing games at any age i was merely implying that this might be the opinion of the op. i know very well that the majority of MMO players are older than me (17).
Seriously, when people think you are old after you hit 25 you have really a problem or maybe you are still a teenager. With 18/19 you are almost still a kid and i guess only very young people think that you are old when u hit 25+, thats just silly. So when a 10 year old one says you are old with 17, do you really believe it ? lol
The problem is the kid is right. as soon as the genes multiply within the uterus you are already dying like the 6.5 billion on this planet still, and weather we want to hear of not is not the problem, it is when we notice it when we are much older, wrinkles, loss of energy, stiff joints, voice is getting tired and the back is starting to give way. i am not going to look forward to that but still, i or anyone else can not change that. so yes the kid is younger and we are getting older likewise the kid, so the kid is right.
I have nothing wrong with people trying to voice their opinions on different ages, but jeeze, comments like "LOL Young = stupid" are just outright trying to demonize teenagers and younger, I've actually been put off watching the BBC sometimes simply because whenever they mention children or teenagers you just know it's going to be "dealing with anti-social behavior" rather pathetic if you ask me, particularly since 'anti-social' folks like us will be the ones deciding who the next leaders will be when all the old folks complaining about us will be gone. Honestly? I just wish people would stop going on about this way with games as well, we're nearly ALWAYS the target when it comes to reasons of anti-social behavior or crime we're nearly always the idiots who run around going "Lol fck u nub kk?" though it turns out that people like that are in their bloody twenties and as for being influenced by games they seem to think that we're stupid because we don't want to click the cancel buttons on our subscription just because we find the games fun and would rather play them than work for qualifications that won't even help us much in the future.

I`m 41 yrs old, but life is so much better now. I hated High School, my 20`s I was broke and got divorced, 30`s I was in debt, but now I have cash and I do what I want. I`m totally happy. The 40`s are great.
The silliest part of this poll is they don't even reach the average age of a gamer. The majority of gamers are in the 25+ category.

I just find it ironic how skewed peoples' perceptions are. By that, I mean how young people will group 25+ into "old" while the Baby Boomers will sometimes lump 1-48 as "young."

Well, funny story there, three months ago I was working in the anaesthesia apartment of the local university hospital. So I'm talking to my instructing doctor who was about 20, 30 years older than I was; and he tells me to prepare everything and he will come and see if I get along. Now we get this patient, a 13 year old kid who has a post-distortioned inner knee damage after a (short) soccer match. Well, I filled up the prmary injection and he mumbles something like "Stunlock, too bad"... so I was like "Hey, you play World of Warcraft, me too"... And he looks at me with those huuuge eyes like "O M G, the guy that planning and initiating my upcoming near death experience plays World of Warcraft, I'm screwed"... so he asked "You're not the doctor, right???"... i smiled and said "Yea I am, my instructor is dropping by in 5 minutes to see how things are going though, but don't worry, I've done this before"... So he went completely pale and didn't say a word until I put him to sleep. By inactivating his concious sympathical influence he was the first patient ever that went from a dead-white pale to a normal pale after getting an anaesthesia...
too funny. Hey, why do you kids think older (I AM 26, THATS NOT OLD) people that play must be retarded or jobless? you're playing videogames yourself, right?
Cabe: One thing missing from the stats list..."of the respondants" I doubt the listed statistic that "25% of people 50 and older play video games". That seems just a bit too high - maybe 15% or even 20% [1/6 or 1/5]. The results are based on who/how they polled - if it was online, then the results could be even higher; if it was a phone poll, it may be more valid.
And, of coarse, I could be wrong I'm 44 and only about 1/3 to 1/4 my friends play videogames, fewer among friends older than myself, more among the "youngsters."
