I'm a current Eve-Online player and I must say I don't think the pvp can compare really. It's mainly positioning the ship correctly so the enemy ship is in the range of fire of your cannons. Also you don't get as much thrill as you would in Eve. Although, I have taken breaks from Eve and it can be fun for a while so go ahead and try it out
I tried EVE but I hated the way you have to wait to progress your character... gave me the feeling that I wasn't progressing... The way they make you progress should have been optional... In a skill system - you should gain skills by using the corresponding skill while playing... in theirs you just pick and never use it and you still gain..
Then point to click and never getting to get off your ship really killed it for me... a shame too because I like pvp looting games
Think of it like this in WoW or Guild wars or whatever you cant get out of your body and walk around...
in eve you cant get out of your ship and walk around...
But Walking in stations is being developed (?) I believe...
Yup, walking in stations is due end of 2008 I believe. Imo it'll be intresting to have but won't have an overall impact on Eve (appart from stopping all those people that complain you can't leave your ship =P). But I'm not too bothered about this, the new graphic engine upgrades are what intrest me currently
PvP is pretty basic in VCO. Once you pick a target it's pretty much automatic. In land battles you get to use some special attacks that are generally subdued except when you get the ultimate (1 per weapon type). In naval battles, as another already said, you basically maneuver your ship (like a real naval battle I guess). You can change shells, use special equipment, and even board enemy ships to turn a naval battle into a land battle. The bottomline, though, is that VCO is not a big PvP game, at least not on my server.
Of course, there is a caveat. If you are into team play a lot and you manage to find an active and aggresive guild, you are participate in guild level battles that occur regularly. The individual player fights are the same, but there are more people around.
Oh, and lastly, you will be terribly disadvantaged in PvP against someone who has bought cash shop PvP Items (weapon and potion).

pvping is fun in vco theirs not alot of things to lose if you die and its exciting especially when its guild vs guild.
like one time the guild i joined went against the bad boyz lol it was fun most of us died but i remained alive i surely won my fair shair of xp
though they could work on it a little like being able to bet/stake items with other players you are going to fight.
