Last beta I played in for this, it was point and click...at least the default settings were.  It is a great game though...I wouldnt let that shy you away from it.  Some games allow you to reconfigure your movement to the WASD keys if you prefer.  I dont remember if there was an option or not...but when open beta comes around again...give it a shot and check it out!!

    point and click.

    2 things.

    1. I hate point and click

    2. This game is point and click, but it kind of fits the genre.  This game is much more like a RTS.  Im not sure how WASD would work (although, I could think of a couple of things :D).  Anyway, it is a good game and if you are letting P&C stop you from playing you're an idiot.

Point and Click sucks hard. Actually I can't believe that anyone would bring out an mmorpg without the option of keyboard control; that is just stupidity.

It reminds me of Wish beta...most people didn't like the PnC...the devs basically said tough..and look what happened.

This game would have absolutely no chance of working without point and click, and the downfall of Wish had nothing to do with the lack of keyboard controls.

WASD is only mandatory if its a game where you have to use your mouse to aim, right now theres not a single mmorpg where you have to aim @#$% so what is the problem here?

"Mandatory" being the key word there.  Surprisingly enough, some people hate the incessant clicking that comes with a Point and Click only MMO.  I, for one, won't play any MMO that doesn't have WASD movement.  Nothing against the games, and maybe they are better off with point and click, but I just can't stand it.

Btw, there are multiple MMO's where point and click wouldn't be viable.  Even more if you count MMOFPS type games.

For my two cents I hate games that don't allow mouse buttons for movement.
  • daewoniedaewonie Member Posts: 11
well..I don't think the WASD movement is plausible in SOTNW because of the MCC (Multi-Character Control).  The way the keyboard is configured in the Singapore edition is that the keys QWERTY are used for the 1st character skills, keys ASDFG are used for the 2nd character, and the keys ZXCVB are used for the third.  Personally being a fan of WASD movement, I became used to the point and click style. and sometimes on long journeys i realyl dont like keeping my finger on the W key. The point and click style allows the player to use more macros and skills and also to excute them quicker.

if you tried the game there is no real way for it NOT to be point/click, like some one else said it play like an RTS. to move your characters around you draw like a box around them and click where to move. you box around all or 2 or 1 ,what ever but no way to make it WASD and have it work correctly or it would make it more complicated than it has to be.

Lineage 2 was PnC. drove me nuts trying to get in and out of buildings. Worse yet, there was no way to change this to a WASD setup...not customization AT ALL...left the game before my free 30 days were even up, I don't care what your control choice is, there is NO EXCUSE in this day and age for not giving the player the choice of HOW they like to drive their toon around.

Also, tehre seems to be SotNW:GE which is getting ready for closed Beta and a seperate called just GE, which has an open beta available. they have to be the same game, so whats the deal lol?

Why point and click is so popular in asian games?  Well have you been to an asian internet cafe?  you see everyone playing games with a mouse in one hand and a smoke in the other.  if you had mouse and keyboard combo required to play the game you wouldn't be able to smoke while you played.  I'm not asian, and the observation is only partially tongue and cheek.  It is a different cultural requirement in asia that the game needs to be playable with one hand.  This was a topic that they talked about in some sessions at the last GDC.  So I guess if you really want the full experience, take up smoking.

realy theres no way we can find that out, for me being a programmer I can think on some ways for it not to be P&C and still keep the team working, no problem i'd say...  theres nothing else to do but to wait and cheer...

@All the people complaining about P&C; How the $@&;% would you control 3 characters with WASD at the same mother $^@*ing time? P&C is the way to go for an RTS-esque game. Unless you have 4 hands, and 3 keyboards (each keyboard commanding a different char) you cant play this game on WASD.

Ironically, the avatar of the poster before you  is that of Balthier from FFXII on PS2. A great deal of this game borrowed from FFXI (online).  This got me thinking, that its battle control system would be ideal for this game, where you must control 3 people, without the perspective-limiting PnC system.

The option provided for Select-All or Invidual Mode.

If you had them on select all, WASD would move your leader and the other two would follow. In Individual, clicking on one specific character would give you the control for them. It would be just the same as it works currently with Click-To-Move.

who knows ..maybe the idea of controling 3 chars at the same time came from FFXII...

yep..it's point and click...with lots of hotkeys....and i mean LOTS.

I don't mean to flame, but if you are not trying this game because of PnC you are an idiot.  There are TONS of GREAT games that have PnC. Go back to WoW! lololols

I don't play Wow JA. And I don't play mmo's with PnC only. I have never played a PnC mmo that I enjoyed. Clicking is for RTS games. When I play a RPG I want to feel like I am going someplace..not clicking some spot. Its the difference between being a character in the game or moving a play piece around in a game. Sorry if I have higher mmo standards then you.

It's not your standards, it's your opinion. Now you just made yourself look stupid. You're also not paying attention, you said the only clicking you like is for RTS games, when people have continously said this game is RTS-esque with the three character control which is why it is point and click. So, maybe you should take your head out of your anal cavatity and take your "standards" some where else, or give the game a try before passing judgement.
