These were taken on Bloodfin yesterday. These are not Mos Eisley, in fact not even Tatooine.
These are in front of the Theed space port:
These are inside the Theed space port:
These were taken on Dantooine in the middle of nowhere during a base bust:
I've been seeing players almost everywhere (even in small outposts on the Endor moon, etc). Looks exactly like pre-CU populations to me.
And I should know, being that I've been playing SWG for almost four years.
To demonstrate my objectivity, I'd like to add that this steady rise SWG has been experiencing could be attributed to the anticipation leading up to Chapter 6 what with Beast Master, harder combat and all. With Chapter 6 being genuinely considered a success I see the current numbers continuing to rise a bit before they level off.
Galaxies has aged, but certainly a worthy Star Wars MMO again (in my opinion).
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.

ok... i'll bite..
Thats on BLOODFIN yes but try some other galaxy.. you'll get see the difference very soon..
besides Bria, bloodfin and chimaera, its still pretty quiet on the other servers....
I also agree that the pop is up because of Ch6, but I think most will choose to stay this time!

That said, these screenshots will get picked apart as irrelevant for any number of reason. So, while it's nice to see, i don't think it is going to change a lot of minds. but then, life goes on whether someone thinks the game is a ghost town or not.
Edit: for clarification, the term 'this' is in reference to the topic at hand and not the post being replied to. apparently that was not clear when i posted.

then you *see* it wrong. What i wrote is what i meant. Not dead just quiet. So you didnt have to say that. ktnxbye
So, semantics aside, whether you say dead, quiet, desolate, or any other fancy term that translates to not seeing many players, the fact remains the conversation has been had. Since this thread repeats so often, my attempt to provide some constructive summary information (and possibly get some of the initial back and forth out of the way early) are just that and nothing more. However, if you would like to see for yourself you only need to go as far as http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/130939 to see the opposite point of view with screen shots to validate that point. You can also read the same exact conversation that will unfold here.
so, next time, before you criticize my eyesight, make sure we are looking at the same thing. kthnx<randomlettersofnosubstance>

This is kinda typical behavior of the SOE haters.
You could post 50 screen shots and it wouldn't be enough proof.
That's why I don't bother rising to the jibes of the chronically unhappy SOE haters - I just post the positive things that are happening in-game and help all the new players that I se in-game.
Remember, we're having fun playing SWG and they're just left complaining - guess who's happier?
In the end, life goes on and enjoying the game you play has to be satisfaction enough. After all, you are the one who is paying the monthly fee and therefore, you can make your own decisions about this sort of thing. (as clarification 'you' being a generic term and not specifcly the poster this is in reply to)

I don't get why you guys are always trying to prove anything to the vets. Who cares? No other game community has this weird vet vs current thing going.
Some of the servers are in trouble, no doubt. They need a merge. So does any older MMO. You want to see empty servers, I suggest you go take a look at DAoC.
One thing I was wondering about was the xfire stats. Very few western MMO's even show up on xfire (which is no surprise) but SWG does rank pretty high. I'm sure a vet would dismiss it or discount it but its there regardless and holding the same rank for about 4 months now. I know its just hours played and doesn't indicate at all what the pops are, but someone has to be racking up those hours.
http://www.xfire.com/cms/stats/ (april)
Another interesting point is the RMT spammers. When a game truely dies, the RMT people are the first ones out the door. Lately, these as*hats are on any decently populated server advertising their crap. As much as RMT sucks and everything, these guys don't hang around for fun, IF the game was truely "empty" they would leave it in a New York minute.
All the indictions are there is still a good sized population ingame, just not enough for all those servers. Plus it looks like many of the people from the "dead" servers are drifting to the higher pop servers. (making the problem worse on the dead servers)
Who knows, everyone is going to believe what they want no matter how irrational it sounds to the other.
EDIT
Did you realize that SWG has 25 servers? Thats a huge amount of servers for any game in any situation, its no wonder there are issues. Not even LotRs, which is kicking arse right now in sales, has that many servers. In fact there are very few games that have more then 10 servers at all. To even be surprised that this game has some issues with empty servers or to use it as a point is just silly. With 25 servers its just a given some of them are having issues especially given its age. (then 1+1 usually equals 2) Aside from WoW, list me a game with 20 or more servers....
You know, those screenshots are pretty impressive for post NGE.
But the reality is that server mergers is still a hot topic for SWG. Just ask the people on the other 18 very light to light servers.
I hope that one day SWG can become a great game again. I really do. I miss it.
Its not just SWG, its just about any game over on the left you can throw at it. I know vet types tend to look at things from a SWG centric view but the bigger picture is Pay to play isn't very popular yet. Which bares out in sub numbers, longevity, and unit sales. You can also see that people are not playing MMO's the same amount of hours as FPS. Equal positioned games, FPS have2 to 4x as many hours aside from WoW which pretty much dominates the stats. (oops, or that means there are far more people playing FPS)
Overall in the video game arena, MMO's are still pretty unpopular aside from a few key titles. All these generic fantasy grinders are taking its toll on the genre.

uh..what? criticize your eyesight? You're accusing me that i said 'the game is dead' while i didnt say that but... whatever you like to see is what you see right?
Hope to see you in-game, my name is Becen Sodine on Bloodfin - Just started out again!
Pre-cu and even CU I could see that many people on the Euro servers at like 3AM which would make it 4AM server time during say a day in the week out side most of the starports. If you are saying the population isn't bad by showing 20/30 people at different times from one server don't bother - we used to get 4 to 5 times that many people on my server just for a small pvp event back in the day so sorry population looks low to me.

I was there pre-CU. Never saw these huge magic numbers you claim were there. Anyway.

Hate to play Devil's Advocate here Nikoz78, but you cant say that the current population is even a third of Pre-NGE/CU levels. Hate to say this out loud but I used to complain about all the dozens of people in every Starport in every City on every Planet day and night selling things and generally clogging up the chat box and the whole horizon filled with Chat Balloons with Doctors selling Buffs! And those people were not AFK either. My old computer used to slow almost to a halt in the more populated areas. As much as I think this game is improving and getting more people back, the CU/NGE debacle destroyed the old population base. I do realise this is SWG Current Forum but you shouldnt check your honesty or the games history at the door. Let people choose for themselves.Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.

Some how I doubt you played on my server ( read the post carefully) and my server being Euro Chimaera. People know what I'm on about who played when KDS were around and we used to have some massive PVP events. My guild alone at one point used to have 230 active members and I used to sell in excess of 100 suits of armour every 5 days thats how busy the server was. The numbers were there sorry to disappoint you

I imagine the number of people has EVERYTHING to do with SOE activating everyones account so that they can pack up their housing before they are all destroyed.

so...
I'm content with the population. Sure its not massive gonzo 500+ people in 1 spot numbers - but I *wouldn't* want that anyways. Too much lag.
I enjoy undercutting people in the market place - it's the only PvP a crafter gets.
Maybe you both are right? On the high population servers maybe the numbers of player is rising, while on the low population servers the numbers going down. I dont know, and I dont care...I dont even know why I posted this, I try to stay away from these battles.

The Second Day Vet
At the star wars celebration the SWG devs they want to get old players back and will adjust the game for that. Many are returning.
