I subbed the other day to check out populations by slowly creating toons on each server and popping in at different times of day, to be done over the next few weeks to complete the month I signed up for. Keep in mind, Im just checking out populations as a main priority, including activity in cities, musty, restuss, cantinas, player cities, etc. If anyone wants to specifically check elsewhere let me know (and on what server and what time range). Some servers I was pleasantly surprised with....some were disappointing (like my home on Corbantis). I even tried to /tell some of you avid posters here in game, but either got no response or you were busy (no biggie, I understand...youre in the middle of whetever and noob spooge magoo wants to talk to you about the server "wtf?"...lol).
In addition Im checking out the overall changes that have been placed back into game, and then watch as ch6 hits, and check out how those new changes work as well. Ive played SWG since 2003, but took a break during the post NGE area.
Anyway, this is not a hate or love post, just a neutral, "This is what I see in game." And my whole point is that Im doing this to see if a community is there to allow me to immerse myself back into a genre and world that I truly miss (im a huge SW fan as well). Maybe some of you out there are the same....the sights and sounds of lightsabers, laserblasts, and ships last night were a sight for sore MMORPG eyes....
Oh, and I posted a quirky game thing here, lol: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?start=0&topic_id=333936

as long as your post is honest and not biased in any way you can be sure i will be reading it, allways nice to get someone elses views on things, both positive and negative. altho i must admist i am more hopefull than against soe at this stage. but my reason tho is simple.
i thought the game was dying, i was just waiting for them to shut it down, but then out of nowhere and without any reason the dev's just seemed to do a 180 and started bringing out descent additions. so from being slightly negative and wanting to quit i went to enjoying the game again. only real drawback at the moment is the population for me, i wish there were more players, but if you play on one of the heavy servers it is not so bad ...
Update (this is just a sample of what I observed, and it is only a partial overview of what all is in the game):
I created characters on every server (on top of the 3 I already have on Corbatis). I placed the new toons in Restuss on every server (as I said this is the sample I chose this weekend). I checked in for a bit 8 times on Saturday and 22 times on Sunday. Depending on whether there was no one on, or a full on battle, I would observe on the sidelines from a couple minutes to half an hour. I must admit there are plenty of new graphical effects and very nice Star Wars sound effects added in. The most activity I witnessed was on Bria, Booldfin, and Chilsatra. I so wanted to hop in and play, but all my new guys are level 5, and my cl90 guys on Corbantis didnt have anyone to jump in with. (as a note, I am still very unsure about the whole transfer process, as Id hate to lose my items and badges).
And this morning...yes a Monday morning, I popped in Chilastra and about 40 people were battling it out in Restuss...pretty cool.
I'll keep popping in with more observations over time. Does all this mean anything? No, not really. All it is is a prelim look at possibly getting into a server with a good size community to enjoy the MMO aspect...
great
keep us posted and this topic alive on your findings
( i just started a new toon on bria, an entertainer and it is definitely more populated than gorath where my 77 commando and 90 entertainer are ... )
Ok, its been a few more days so I have more input. Well, DANGIT. IM getting hooked again. So hooked that I jumped over to Corbantis to play with my lvl 90 dudes. Low and behold, there are little hems to what I felt to be a dead server of Corbantis. Last night, on a weeknight, I found a group of imps in Talus going to the weapons depot to take it over from the rebs. It was a 40 on 40 (give or take a few) fight. I had a blast! I did. Im still learning the new tricks to the game, but man it was fun...even in death. And I find myself drawn to learning more and more of the new BM traits of the game. Cant say I fully understand it, but Im getting there. Havent even tried the Cabal quests...the treasure hunts are fun as heck too.
Back to my point, even the less populated servers I created toons on have been increasing in numbers of players...you just have to look a bit harder at where the action is, but its there, and in surprising numbers....
..I'll keep you guys updated, if you even care, lol. Thanks!
On another note, kudos to players like Obraik that post here with very nice updates and retorts of there own.
