since MMORPG.com gets more than it's fair share of trollsone would think that there is not a game outr there worth playing if all you had to go by were the posts here so to balance it out a bit here is a article from a site with some good quotes on LoTRO
kotaku.com/gaming/hard-hobbit-to-break/lotro-tops-pc-sales-in-usa-and-europe-259346.php
?? The New York Times proclaimed LOTRO as "a major achievement of interactive storytelling, the first game truly worthy of the 'Lord of the Rings' franchise and a must-play for just about anyone with an interest in Tolkien or the future of online entertainment."
?? GameSpy awarded the game its prestigious Editor's Choice award with 4.5 out of 5 stars.
?? Computer and Video Games, a leading UK gaming site, rated the game a 9.2 out of 10 and said "LOTRO presents a stunning and evocative world of Tolkien magic to explore."
?? GameDaily, a leading US gaming site, rated the game a 9 out of 10 and calls the game "a hot contender for PC game of the year."
and a quote from Jeff Anderson
"This outstanding start sets the stage for a bright future," said Jeffrey Anderson, president and CEO of Turbine, Inc. "This is only the beginning as we embark on an incredible journey with our players to expand the world of Middle-earth with the release of regular content updates."
"Following the most successful North American pre-order program in Midway's history, The Lord of the Rings Online is off to a great start," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "As the positive reports and reviews continue to come in, gamers are settling into the game and experiencing Middle-earth as never before."

I think they pretty much nail it. I mean i play the game i like it so far.. Maybe not that great or revolutionary but it works pretty well for the average consumer.
About all the forum trolls arround.. well its meaningless. The such called "hardcore" crew are nothing but no life geeks and nerds with an atitude problem, I do think they are a minority.
The irony about this people is that in real life they are mostly complete losers, so they show here trying to show its"superiority" over average gammers, arguing a excuisit taste that can be only achieved by expending most of your life infront of a pc screen.
And why post something the head of the company says about the game? I'm sure he's just more than a little biased...
Equal opportunity troll.
I think it will surely beat Vanguard and DDO
And WoW will fall twhen the Gondor expansion comes out
yes, Stanly I'm a fanboi and I'm proud of it

It has some fun things like the titles and deeds. And surprisingly, Monster Play (LOTRO PvP part) is suprisingly fun.
Still, I'm hesitant to call it great or awesome. Maybe when I get to higher levels that'll change.
I will say its definately a competitor with WoW. We'll see how it fares when AoC/Warhammer come out though.
lotro is a disaster.
LotRO is basically a very good game.
Its fun, easy to learn and the quest lines actually make sense. They have a plot, storyline and immersion and anyone new to the game will probably find that aspect of the game both interesting and entertaining for at least the first month.
The feat system, where achieving reknown as an explorer of a certain area or slayer of certain types of monster is actively rewarded with skill boosts that help your character be stronger is extremely appealing and well presented.
The classes are reasonably well balanced individually and integrate well with each other in a variety of combinations. No calss is the n=be all and end all in the group setting, which is a great bonus when you are playing at 4am and there are not so many players online, thus fewer options in what class you can group with.
Each class has a lot more depth than is initially apparent, since, as you level up and complete feats, you get a variety of class specific feats that allow you to tailor your character toward different styles of play.
The ingame atmosphere is quite buoyant and more fun oriented than many games that I have played, with the result that the RP servers are well populated and RP on the PVE servers is common and often very funny to join or watch.
Players are reasonably well behaved toward each other and unpleasant incidents are rare.
On the downside, the crafting system is not well designed. Creating good craft items requires exceptionally rare items and skilling up is expensive and a bit of a grind. Once you get there, your crafted items are practically useless because the quest rewards are generally excellent and, personal opinion, far too good to justify the relatively low effort you put in.
Some aspects of the economy are not well balanced, which is not uncommon but, given that crafting redundancy is part of the reason for this, makes this a fairly major downpoint in the game.
The game has a good range of content most of the way to level 35 which means you wont be bored doing the same thing over and over. There are lots of ways to get there and different places to quest in. But, at 35 the options become much more limited and levelling up becomes quite a grind, with many people currently complaining that finding a group is very difficult.
You'd have to agree that LOTRO is one of the best games on the market. Its fun, has an immersive setting and great graphics. The class system is much deeper than it appears to be at first sight and the quests are generally fun and interesting.
The content is a bit limited in some ways, but even hardened gamers should get a good two months of good gaming on their main character from LOTRO.
The forthcoming update in June will hopefully bring that a bit closer to three months and, if they gauge the next upodate properly I think it would be fair to say that, at that point, LOTRO will become a fairly well rounded game.

enough said, i'd rather they made it about the 2nd or 4th age using the book and making it original...
the actual storyline sucks.. seriously use griffins, drop ring... go home
Although we are only at level 14 with our character, we can say that LOTR Online is just a plain FUN game to play. The quests are pretty varied so far, and the graphics and environment of Middle Earth, coupled together with the overall theme of the War for the One Ring makes this the most gratifying MMORPG we’ve played to date. There’s a fantastic community of players online that are willing to help newbies, as well as plenty of sites with huge databases full of information if you get stuck. Although we plan to report in once a month from LOTR Online, we can say after playing it for a few weeks that this is the definitive new MMORPG to play in 2007.
I agree it is not perfect and needs work in some areas but considering what else is out there it is pretty damned good

they also have a new public test server
forums.lotro.com/showthread.php
so any changes and expansions are first tested by the Dev team then a hand chosen group of testers on a closed server then it is put on the preview server for anyone who wants to test, then once they are satisified they will patch it into the regular servers. While I am sure that a occasional bug will slip by they are doing a hell of a lot more to ensure a quality product than most companies do.
